To begin with it will be 5 Electric Blue Acaras. If they remain happy with each other then it will stay that way. If they pair off and get aggressive, i will keep the pair and add a school of Barbs. The tank will be lightly planted with mainly Java fern

I’ve been waiting for the 1000l/h to come back into stock and it keeps getting pushed back 😭 don’t want to end up paying more for an excessive filter, my bills are high enough. What do people think about internals such as the Fluval U4. Or any other canister filters that won’t set me back too much?

It says online the 1000l/h is 18 watts, where as the 1400l/h is 35 watts. Would this lead to being twice the running costs??? Thanks

Which one of these filters is suitable for a 55 gallon. I guess they are the same but the 1400 turns over more water? I was going to get the 1000l/h but it is out of stock. Will there be significantly higher running costs with the 1400...

How would I soak it? The only thing big enough would be the bath really unless I used this tank?

I’ve actually stumbled across this which I’ll be ordering when back in stock, seems to have very good reviews and considering it’s a 1000l/h canister, it’s actually cheaper than a Fluval u4 👀

This guy seems to have a successful one but with 3 blue Acaras, maybe that’s what mine will end up like 🤷🏻‍♂️ Can only hope. My tetra tank actually has a pair of dwarf gouramis in so It’s fully stocked and beautiful 😂 pic below

So the general consensus from people seems to be a big school of Cherry Barbs will be okay with Electric Blue Acaras but a big school of Cardinal Tetras will become a meal pretty quickly. Cherry barbs are only the tiniest bit bigger than tetras so what makes them more suitable to living with...

So there’s no way to have group of them long term? Even if I were able to sex them? Say 1 males 3 females? I’ve read that buying a group from young, no matter the set and distracting them with hiding places, tetra schools etc. Could work???

I do want a planted tank and therefore not a normal cichlid tank. Ideally I want a few big colourful schools. If I could cardinal tetras, but I know they will quickly become food, so some different tetras. I have read EBA’s can work in a planted tank

EBA’s deep down are my favourite. I’ve read so many different opinions varying from… -buy young and they will grow up fine -buy young and when they pair off, get rid of the rest -buy only females -buy only males -buy 2 females, 3 males Obviously sexing is hard at a young age…any advice?

The only thing putting me off discuss is the temperature. I currently don’t need a heater, as my tanks sit happily at 24°C in my apartment. Would it be considerably more expensive keeping a heater at such high temperatures of 30°C than say a 25/26 degree tank?
