    Help with canister filter

I have put the clamp back on to stop the “inlet pipe” flopping about. (Is this the one that take water out the tank and into the filter?) however there are now big screws sticking out the back preventing it from sitting flush with the wall. There is also now no space for the return pipe to clamp...

    Help with canister filter

Hi guys, trying to set up my first canister filter and super confused. I took of the brackets that came with it because it would not sit under the lid right. Why is the “return pipe” in this weird L shape, it will not sit right compared to the inlet pipe? Also why does it have all these holes in...

    Gorilla glue safe for aquariums?

Hi guys, so I’ve got a massive piece of driftwood and from my understanding it may take a long time to be waterlogged. I think i going to get some big bits of slate and glue them to the bottom of the root and just leave it in the tank. Does anyone know if the gorilla glue in this link would be...

    Which canister filter?

To begin with it will be 5 Electric Blue Acaras. If they remain happy with each other then it will stay that way. If they pair off and get aggressive, i will keep the pair and add a school of Barbs. The tank will be lightly planted with mainly Java fern

    Which canister filter?

I’ve been waiting for the 1000l/h to come back into stock and it keeps getting pushed back 😭 don’t want to end up paying more for an excessive filter, my bills are high enough. What do people think about internals such as the Fluval U4. Or any other canister filters that won’t set me back too much?
  15. O

    Which canister filter?

It says online the 1000l/h is 18 watts, where as the 1400l/h is 35 watts. Would this lead to being twice the running costs??? Thanks
  16. O

    Which canister filter?

Which one of these filters is suitable for a 55 gallon. I guess they are the same but the 1400 turns over more water? I was going to get the 1000l/h but it is out of stock. Will there be significantly higher running costs with the 1400...

    Azalea Root soaking…

How would I soak it? The only thing big enough would be the bath really unless I used this tank?

    Azalea Root soaking…

Hi guys, getting the 55 gallon up and going soon and got a large piece of azalea root by Aqua One today. Is it worth starting to soak it now to get rid of the tanins (baring in mind there is no filter in the tank) or do you think by the time it has cycled it will be clear and ready for fish...

    Filter for 55 gallon…

I’ve actually stumbled across this which I’ll be ordering when back in stock, seems to have very good reviews and considering it’s a 1000l/h canister, it’s actually cheaper than a Fluval u4 👀

    55 gallon/200 litre

This guy seems to have a successful one but with 3 blue Acaras, maybe that’s what mine will end up like 🤷🏻‍♂️ Can only hope. My tetra tank actually has a pair of dwarf gouramis in so It’s fully stocked and beautiful 😂 pic below

    Barbs and tetras with cichlids

Cool, sounds like I finally have a plan🙏🏻 Thanks! So… -5 Juvenile EBA’s (pray for success) -10 Rosy Barbs Would that be considered fully stocked? Thanks guys

    55 gallon/200 litre

I already have a tank with Cherry barbs and tetras, I just thought they’d also look good in a tank with the Acaras, but seems that isn’t an option 🤷🏻‍♂️ Regarding the blue Acaras, I’ve been told so many different things about how to go about it so I’m just going to get 5 juveniles and there is a...

    Barbs and tetras with cichlids

Okay, I’m thinking of getting 5 juvenile EBA’s and a large school of gold/rosy barbs or mix of both. What kind of numbers would you go for in a 55 gallon?
  26. O

    Barbs and tetras with cichlids

So the general consensus from people seems to be a big school of Cherry Barbs will be okay with Electric Blue Acaras but a big school of Cardinal Tetras will become a meal pretty quickly. Cherry barbs are only the tiniest bit bigger than tetras so what makes them more suitable to living with...

    Filter for 55 gallon…

I’ll look into it! Just stumbled across the AllPondSolutions filter, suitable for up to 1000 litres. Looks great and at £65 a hell of a lot cheaper than the Fluval 👀

    Filter for 55 gallon…

I’ve been set on purchasing the Fluval U4 internal filter for my 55 gallon tank as it seemed suitable for the size. However after a bit of research I came across a couple of negative reviews which have made me question it. Anybody have experience with this particular filter? I’m planning to keep...

    55 gallon/200 litre

So what would you go for instead? I am Set on a planted tank, with some big fish 5-8” community tank. I definitely want a big school of tetras or something with a few big fish to look at. I like angels, oscars, blue Acaras etc. Essentially I am looking for a big, entertaining fish who could be...

    55 gallon/200 litre

This is the problem I’ve seemed to come across with any “big” fish, especially cichlids. Eventually 2 will pair up, and I will have to get rid of the rest??? Is this always the case, or is there a way I can have a tank with a “group” of EBA’s long term. Or do I need to be prepared to end up with...
  33. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

Okay, so what is the plan when I go to buy them? They will be juveniles regardless. Am I buying a group and monitoring them, or am I trying to buy the same sex if possible? If my long term goal is 5 EBA’s as my centrepiece fish, how would you go about it
  34. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

So there’s no way to have group of them long term? Even if I were able to sex them? Say 1 males 3 females? I’ve read that buying a group from young, no matter the set and distracting them with hiding places, tetra schools etc. Could work???
  35. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

I do want a planted tank and therefore not a normal cichlid tank. Ideally I want a few big colourful schools. If I could cardinal tetras, but I know they will quickly become food, so some different tetras. I have read EBA’s can work in a planted tank
  36. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

So how would you go about buying. Like I say, I would like 4/5 EBA’s as my main fish. Obviously LFS’s won’t be that knowledgeable on sex and will just sell me whatever I want? I am after a big school of tetras and then soms big EBA’s. I will probably buy a big school first and then go for them...
  37. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

I want a group of big fish who will last for my tank. I’ve heard the same about angels regarding pairing. Can you recommend anything that will be around 5-7” that will be happy in the long run?
  38. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

EBA’s deep down are my favourite. I’ve read so many different opinions varying from… -buy young and they will grow up fine -buy young and when they pair off, get rid of the rest -buy only females -buy only males -buy 2 females, 3 males Obviously sexing is hard at a young age…any advice?
  39. O

    55 gallon/200 litre

So I think I’m finally down to one of 2 options for my tank. It’s a 4ft 200 litre. I’ve finally got a big piece of driftwood and rocks, and it will have a few plants (Java fern, some background planted plants) and I’m thinking about going…. - 5/6 electric blue Acaras -10+ Cherry barbs/tetra...

    200 litre/55 Gallon stocking….

The only thing putting me off discuss is the temperature. I currently don’t need a heater, as my tanks sit happily at 24°C in my apartment. Would it be considerably more expensive keeping a heater at such high temperatures of 30°C than say a 25/26 degree tank?
