Yeah...I'm a little too impatient for that. But the wood has been in the tank for 2 weeks now and I don't see any brown color to the water so it seems to have worked anyway.

I was only soaking it because of the tannins, not because of the fungus. I knew fungus would happen, but didn't expect it to be so bad.

I don't see any mold growing. I think you're seeing a difference in color which is caused by the fungus not growing as much on the top of the wood. It's growing more on the bottom. It's been in the tank for about 2 weeks. It's mopani driftwood from Petsmart.

Fish seem perfectly fine, especially the betta, still swimming around his daily patrol like he owns the place. B-) The shrimp were hiding in a corner most of the time, so I relocated them to a bigger and cleaner tank just in case.

It's a scarlet badis. He's tiny and smaller than some of my shrimp. But I do realize he'll eat shrimplets and I'm ok with him keeping the population in check.

Alrighty, I took care of it this evening. The tank has fresh gravel, the same cycled filter and 2/3 of the same water. Plus I added a badis just in case. Thanks all.

Thanks for your input. I do like the idea of a badis. Others are saying I should strip it down and start over, which might not work out since I have no place to put the shrimp. Do you agree or disagree with starting over?

I can't do such big cleanings. I recently did one and killed 5 shrimp.

Yeah I think you're right. And they just discovered today that my mystery snail is in fact eating one of my plants, so I think that is the most likely scenario.

Here's an updated picture. Something is definitely eating it. They are stripping the leaves and leaving just the stems. My guess is the shrimp. Can anyone confirm that they do this?
