    Injured corydora

Odessa Barbs are more aggressive if they are hungry. Otherwise I don’t think they would attack your Corydoras. Hope things will improve for you bud. I was going to take another picture but I can find the Corydoras now, she is not at her usual spot so must’ve swam elsewhere

    Injured corydora

Hmmm I’ve bought both Odessa and Corydoras (peppered and panda) as juveniles and they never had any issues from Day 1. I’ve never seen the Odessa barbs chasing the Corydoras or tetras except for when a Corydoras was laying eggs. I do have live plants and some decor for hiding places in my tank...

    Injured corydora

I’ve ordered some API aquarium salt. Unfortunately I don’t have a suitable tank to quarantine so would have to treat in same tank ... If it’s infection / rot I’m worried it will spread so really not sure what to do now. :(

    Injured corydora

Barbs and Corydoras have been in the tank for months and no issues until now. I did notice one Corydoras was laying eggs last week and the Barbs were chasing her for the eggs. Perhaps they nipped her fin by accident.

    White film in water surface

Yes, agreed it doesn’t look organic. I’ve used Fluval Polishing pad as the floss and not actual poly fill. I don’t think bits should be falling out from it. However when I put the pad in last week I might have forgot to rinse it. I’ve carried out big maintenance to rinse and add another...

That’s good point. I have another thread regarding this : https://www.fishforums.net/threads/white-film-in-water-surface.463195/post-3954122

    White film in water surface

Yes strange one this. There are some hits in Google but nothing too helpful. I can soak the surface film but there are plenty floating around in the water column as well. The floating particles don’t move or float to top so not Copepods or micro bubbles. I will try daily water changes to see...

    Injured corydora

Thanks for the advice. I’m afraid I don’t have a quarantine tank, I have very small container which I’m currently using for a Neon Tetra. Will it be ok to does the salt in main tank? I need to purchase some. She does swim but not as active as other corydoras.

    White film in water surface

Ok looks like the particles are back. It’s suspended in the water column and also seem to form a film on the surface. This is most visible if viewed from underneath the water level. As it’s not being captured by my filter could this be some kind of bio-film? It’s more visible viewed from...

    Injured corydora

Thanks. I will do daily water changes. I’m also having this issue with white particles in the water. When I turn filter off they sort of floats in the water and also form a film in the surface. I’ve added fine filter media but it doesn’t seem to catch it. From research it could be bio film?

    Injured corydora

Parameters are 0ppm Ammonia, 0ppm Nitrite and 25-30ppm Nitrate. I know the Nitrates is a bit high and I’m trying to reduce it. I don’t think it looks like fin rot but I could be wrong.

    Injured corydora

Other corydoras, tetras and Odessa barbs. The barbs never bother the corydoras. Although one or two were laying eggs last week and they were chasing her for the eggs. Perhaps barbs nipped fins by accident. She still moves but prefer her spot near the little cave. Will the fins grow back?

    Injured corydora

Noticed one of my corydoras is not moving much and in closer inspection looks like his tail fin and dorsal fin is injured? Do I need to do anything?

True, should be some regulations to ban selling such products really.

    White film in water surface

According to API it's complete safe though... I will definitely hold off using one but just curious. Seems that lots of aquarists are against water clarifiers however there seems to be quite a lot available on the market with claims that they are 100% safe for fish.

    White film in water surface

Cheers bud. The flow in the tank is stronger now so wondering if that’s the reason for the cloudiness. Perhaps it’s debris from substrate. I will keep an eye on the water parameters too but so far they look ok.

    White film in water surface

Took 2 hours but got there in the end. Water surface is clear but water column still cloudy. Hopefully the filter will sort it out by tomorrow otherwise might use some water clarifier to clear the particles.

    White film in water surface

Good call! I don’t think I cleaned the Fluval polishing pad last time. I’ll definitely give the new one a good rinse and rinse existing one in the tank water. I’ve bought additional carbon so I’ll probably use them up before replacing with polishing pad. The Fluval has 2 sponge prefilters on...

    White film in water surface

Picture attached. I think my tank is cycled as ammonia and nitrite are zero. Media is Fluval 307 3 basket default. 2 foam pre filters, polishing pad, bio noodles, and carbon last. I plan to add another layer of polishing pad in the carbon basket. There also millions of those white particles in...

    White film in water surface

When I turn my filter off I notice white film in water surface. Looks like there are millions of visible white particles floating in the water column too. Water parameters are normal (0ppm Ammonia and Nitrite, around 25ppm Nitrate) Initially I thought it’s bacterial bloom but doesn’t look like...

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

I think my Fluval comes with a floss pad (it's called a polishing pad : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001D070N6/?tag=) To me they are like fine dust in the water floating around the tank, not too many of them on the surface though. They make the water look slightly cloudy hence why I was...

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

I’ve created a video gif the particles which is beet viewed in 1080p. Millions of tiny white particles floating around. Barbs kept getting into the frame which messes up the focus a little but the particles are visible to eye.

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

Yes sorry, should've said I should stop doing daily changes unless the parameters are out. I was doing 50% water changes every day or every 2 days trying to clear the cloudiness. My tap water comes with about 15ppm so it will be very difficult for me to go below that unless I go RO which is not...

Interesting, I have been doing regular water changes even if the water parameters are ok. Perhaps I should stop doing that.

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

Cheers, sounds like it's not worth it so I will leave the water clarifier alone. I've just been reading threads from another forum and some were reporting good results with water clarifier. @AdoraBelle Dearheart : Water parameters are ok (0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, about 25ppm Nitrate). I only feed...

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

It'll be interesting to hear from members who has experience with water clarifiers on an established tank too. I suppose the question is, if I can see some of the particles with naked eye shouldn't it be removed by the filter anyway? If it's bacterial bloom and could take longer time to go...

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

Nope, its few months old but I did a big maintenance about 2-3 weeks ago so started a mini cycle.

Identifying bacterial bloom - should I use water clarifier? (API Accu Clear)

Is there a way to tell if it's floating particles or bacterial bloom? My tank is very slightly cloudy and I can see some very tiny particles and also some micro bubbles. I've done almost daily water changes but it's still not crystal clear. I'm thinking of using a water clarifier (API Accu...

Can I Use Hot Water From The Tap (in Uk)?

Thanks all. My home does have a tank in the closet but as far as I'm aware that's for heating the water from the solar panels. Anyway I think I'll just use boiling water instead just to be safe. When I was doing water changes initially I was mixing it with some of the water from the hot water...

I would like some feedback from UK members. During winter do you use water from the hot water tap for water changes? I have a combi boiler.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

So it’s been 3 days now and she’s still swimming with head upwards, mostly in circles. She seems active and otherwise normal. It’s very hard to feed her though but I try to float some flakes on the floating plants in the hope that she’ll peck at it. Im starting to worry if there’s something...

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Thanks all. Got the small battery air pump installed today to provide some aeration. It’s bit noisy so probably won’t leave it on 24/7. She is not moving much and doesn’t seem to eat. I suppose it’s not easy feeding now due to the swimming issue so I’ll try to use tweezers to feed get.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Will do. She is swimming more now but still heads facing up. I’ll check on her tomorrow as it’s 11PM here.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Cheers for the link. I’ll try to count the sex of my corydoras tomorrow. I’m relieved it’s pregnancy and not something more sinister :)

    Tetra swimming weirdly

I have corydoras too and I think 2-3 of them are female (peppered). Hard to tell sex of pandas though. I think corydoras lays the eggs of the glass.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Will do ;) Should’ve requested male only but I was under impression it’s easier to control population of non live bearers.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Yes, I’ve ordered battery powered one from Amazon. Figure I don’t need powerful one as the temp tank is really small (3L) and it’s easier to relocate with battery powered pump.
