Thanks for the helpful advice @AdoraBelle Dearheart :)
I suppose this is part of keeping pets, it’s sad but as you’ve said all best options had been done and the next steps is to end suffering in most humane way.
I will also give my tank and filter good clean today followed by a big water change.
Cheers buddy. This would be the second fish I’ll have to euthanise :(
However it’s best not to prolong suffering.
I’ve got some pure Clove Bud oil which I believe could be used?
Found her lying in the side this morning and Ive tried to get her to move a few times but she’s not moving much.
Even when I tried to net her she just lies there. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I think her condition is deteriorating. Corydoras are normally active but she is now just lying...
Ok so looking from top down looks to me like the spine is slightly bent which could explain why she’s swimming this way.
Can anyone please advise if this is treatable?
Not sure if I should consider euthanasia.
So it’s been 2 weeks now and I don’t really see an improvement in how she swims. Seems to be active but not sure if she’s eating the peas.
Not too sure what to do...
Thats definitely a big improvement. :)
I do notice minor improvements in the last few days. From research it may take 4-6 weeks to heals so I’m crossing my fingers and toes for her to make it.
In the meantime I’ll try my best to keep the water as clean and healthy possible.
This is her today. Dorsal fin looks more extended and some improvement in the tail fin. It’s now more flexible instead of rigid as few days ago.
Seems to be eating as well so fingers crossed.
If I do a major water change I does with Seachem Stability. I’ve been monitoring water parameters and it’s been good.
I think I’ve found the issue of slightly high Nitrate and cloudy water too. Both hoses seems to have lots of organic plant material in there which may have been from previous...
I will definitely try my best to nurse her back to healthy state.
I was thinking of quarantining her but abandoned that idea as from her evading looks like she’s stressed.
Water parameters better with Nitrate lower now.
0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 15ppm Nitrate.
Will test water daily and do 25% change...
This is a picture of her upright. She is definitely eating. To me her dorsal fin seems to be improving, it’s more extended then before.
When I tried to catch her with net earlier she was very quick evading.
Again, to my novice eyes I think she has a fighting chance.
Hmm I'm getting contradicting messages here ... :(
Should I euthanise her?
She is swimming around and I saw her eating. To me she is recovering but @NCaquatics seem to suggest that she is on the way out?
Did a big water change today (80%). This Corydoras gave me a fright as she was laying belly up. However when I tried to scoop her she darted away very quickly.
Her dorsal fin seems a bit better today, not as bunched up. Noticed that her side fins are also injured. Which may explain the strange...
I cleaned the quarantine tank today and got rid of the plants to make more space. Noticed she’s swimming better now. It’s almost horizontal also listing a bit to one side.
Is it worth treating with some aquarium salt?
Not really. I feed once a day with some flakes but not sure if she’s eating it.
I will try fasting tomorrow. How long should I fast?
She doesn’t look pregnant now unlike the initial picture so perhaps bloating. But really not sure why she is swimming like this as swim bladder issue normally...
I don't think she's pregnant, perhaps bloated. Her belly doesn't look that bloated now.
If she is she's holding the eggs in for a long time (over a week). Is this even possible?
I'm starting to suspect it's swim bladder disease although it's weird that the head is up.
I did think of puting her...
Got a slightly taller container and better airstone so I will relocate the neon tetra tomorrow. Perhaps I will also dose with some API Aquarium salt as I don't think she's eating much.
Still swims vertically with heads up in circles but sometimes swims ok. Not too sure what's going on but hoping...
I've never had any issues with the corydoras in the tank, even with the Odessa barbs.
However around a week ago one or two were laying eggs and I did notice the barbs chasing after her.
Perhaps the barbs had nipped the dorsal and tail fins by accident. I can't be sure but that's the best guess...
@Byron : Thanks. That's what my takeway from your last post however my only concern is that it's an infection that I need to treat. Or risk of it infecting other fish.
I think @NCaquatics mentioned there is some infection setting in, do you think the latest pictures suggests it would be fine...
Yes, it's small but that's the quickest one I could get my hands on. The tetra is in a container of similiar size though for quarantine. Is that too small?
I have other corydoras, tetras, barbs, x2 bamboo shrimps and x2 nerrite snails in main tank.
Thanks @AdoraBelle Dearheart and @NCaquatics. I have blood worm pallets which I scattered around her.
She does try to swim around but not easy as dorsal and tail fin looks damaged.
Will this heal? Should I quanrantine her? Not sure if new tank on her own will cause more stress?
If I quarantine...
She seems to be swimming around the tank as I’ve found her at various spots.
Also saw her eating few times, but not as much.
Water tested today and it’s fine. Same readings as before
To me the dorsal fin looks like it’s injured instead of fin rot?
Quarantine tank and API aquarium salt coming...
Thanks @Byron. I will do a 50% change soon.
Just found her lying there which breaks my heart :(
I have just bought a small tank with air stone and some aquarium salt arriving tomorrow.
