    A Beginner's 20g Long Aquarium (Platys + Pygmy Corys)

Love the tank, hardscape looks great. Are the plants just growing in that?

Aquarium cycle still has not started

Make sure you have a nice deep substrate of 1 to 3 inches and wait like 3 weeks. Speed up ammonia processing with aquatic plants, or even house plants with cleaned roots. (Second option isn't actually cycling the tank in any real way but is a good safety net).

Back after 15 years or so

Tank rack indeed. Cheap one from Halfords though and I don't think the chipboard is going to hold up to the occasional spot of water so may need to do something about that. I've jumped in as it's mostly a bit of therapy. Was involved in an assault in September and my old hobbies are helping a...

Back after 15 years or so

I can't remember exactly and I'm not sure of the email but I went by a few things back then. Dizko, Dizkovery, Redbolt. Who knows. Wonderful I will maybe participate in March and April. :)

Back after 15 years or so

Hello all, I was a member here back when I was about 17. I'm 32 now and getting back into the game. Currently have 3 nano tanks with shrimp and snails, a betta called Marv, and 6 endlers. I'm also dry starting a 4ft 180L tank with some montecarlo and weeping moss. Glad to be back.

    Dry start, Annoying LFS, Manado

Haha. Watch me get banned for teaching underage folks how to make beer... :fun: Home brewing is a thing, and a yeast powered co2 aquarium system technique is not a million miles away from it. Things like ale and mead are much more straightforward than spirits. Living up to my username...

    Dry start, Annoying LFS, Manado

I will admit I have had one explosion in the past as the diffuser was set too tight... The roof and walls still have some stains but somehow the tube exited the tank before released a litre of high pressure beer all over the room.... What kind of money am I looking at for a proper system?

    Dry start, Annoying LFS, Manado

Ah very good. Yes I plan to add a little co2 once the water goes in but to be honest I'll probably just use my silly little diy co2 bottle of yeast and sugar.

    Dry start, Annoying LFS, Manado

Ah, interesting! Indeed :) This is my baby here. Montecarlo planted all over with weeping moss on the wooden arch. Half the moss is a blended mixture I 'painted' on to the wood and the other half I just squished on. We'll see what half performs best. I've started to see some new shoots of MC...

    Which fish should I choose???

Also clean the roots off a house plant and stick it in. You may already have these natural filters on your windowsill :cool:

    Which fish should I choose???

Real plant master race reporting in. It's my biased opinion that you should get 6-8 real plants (ranging from moss/carpet, to mid plants to background). Throw in some floaters like salvinia and you could find yourself instantly ready for a low bioload like 6 neon tetras or 10 red cherry shrimp...

That, and that the plants have much better access to CO2 and grow rapidly. I'm aiming for a nice green carpet. Thanks all for your input

    Dry start, Annoying LFS, Manado

Hi all I've been dry starting my 180l for 2 weeks now and I have just found out at the substrate (manado) has no nutrients in it. I'm pretty annoyed as I was specifically told when I went to the shop to buy soil and sand that all I needed was a big bag of this stuff. So now I'm wondering if...

    Dry Start on wood question

Oh that's interesting. I've been spraying with distilled water from my fairly decent distiller, so I don't imagine there is anything left in the water. Pretty much RO water. I keep the moss damp by spraying 3 times a day. I'm tempted to try the ferts or maybe some shrimp minerals...

    Dry Start on wood question

Hi all, Been over a decade and can't remember my original account details so...hello again! I'm trying a dry start with monte carlo on soil and weeping moss on driftwood. Obviously the monte has plenty of nutrition from the soil but do I need to do anything to get more nutrition to the moss...
