    Better water changing solution

Thanks! Some of it was given to me. Some I bought, so it wasn't to bad. There is a sump under the tank flipping over the tank 5 times an hour. But the only "extra" room that's being taken up is the side reservoir ( the black cabinet off to the side is a chiller and has nothing to do with the...

    Better water changing solution

Here was my solution to saying screw buckets. My setup went as follows. Equipment X1 Neptune FFM ATK ( I chose this because I plan to move to an Apex controller at some point. But any ATK system should be fine I'm sure. ) X1 LiterMeter III 3 stage pump ( its older, and I'm sure there are...

Whats wrong with my GBR tail?

I like many others have been trying my hand at German Blue Rams, and have been mostly failing. 2 of 4 have died for no reason I can find, and this one looks to be on the chopping block. But his tail looks all clumped and stuck together. The top of his dorsal is kind of whitish, but it doesnt...

What Fish Do You Regret Buying?

Black Skirt Tetras. I bought a school of 10. Put them in the tank, and they just formed a gang and started to kill everything. I had 3 dead angel fish in one day. THey kept grabbing them by the training fins, dragging it down to the bottom, and then they would all just sit there and bit it over...

Whats in your "OH SH*T!" kit?

What do you guys generally try and keep on hand for your oh crap moments? Especially for larger more expensive tanks that you might not just be able to run out to your local store and get easily. I keep Ick-X on hand. I was planning to get a second pump and heater spare to keep on hand for if...

    Legos in fish tank?

Actually, my LPS has a TON of professionally made high quality Star Wars things all to scale with each other. AT-AT's, Falcon, X-wing, AT-ST, etc. All looking blown to bits. So, there are some things out there. That being said. A Lego fishtank would be awesome, and I had thought about it...

best options to quickly introduce/add beneficial bacteria to tank?

Fishless cycle. https://www.fishforums.net/threads/cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first.421488/ As mentioned above. Seachem Prime works well. I use it in my tank daily for my water changes. Since you already have fish in the tank, I would just suggest, let it run several weeks...

best options to quickly introduce/add beneficial bacteria to tank?

If you can get media from an already established tank, that is the fastest way.

Does anyone 3d print stuff for their tank? Advice on material needed

The problem is I need this to be a rather precision piece. That being said, I think I found a low tech solution for the problem. At least there were no loaches in my overflow this morning. :)

Does anyone 3d print stuff for their tank? Advice on material needed

Na. Its not plastic in the traditional sense. Its a form of resin. And some of them I know are not water safe, and will leech materials into the water.

Does anyone 3d print stuff for their tank? Advice on material needed

I know very little about 3d printing in technical terms as far as resins go and so forth. I need to print a tank safe part though to hold some filter pads in my overflow to prevent my loaches from swimming down into it. I spend about 30 minutes every morning fishing them out of the overflow...

Best way to vacuum dirt substrate with live plants?

Actually, the biggest problem I keep having is fishing 2-3 of them out of my overflow every morning. Not easy either since its at the bottom of a 4 foot long narrow area. Trying to catch those damn things, even in an area thayts nore more than 8X6, but obstructed, is NOT easy. IF I cant figure...

Best way to vacuum dirt substrate with live plants?

Right now I just have 5 loaches and a pleco. The Pleco is more like a hoover vacuum cleaner though. There are a few ghost shrimps in there as well that the pet store accidently put in the bag when catching the loaches. I figured he would get eaten within a day, but somehow that little dude has...

Best way to vacuum dirt substrate with live plants?

Well, all the water gets taken out of the sump., the out take hose is right near the pump that pulls the water through / out of my sump. The water add/in take hose just hangs over the top of the same sump chamber that the out take hose is in. This way I don't have **** hanging all over my tank...

Best way to vacuum dirt substrate with live plants?

True. I hadnt thought about that aspect. The new water has some of those nutrients, but I probably am siphoning a lot off just through the water change. All the water goes into / out of my sump.

Best way to vacuum dirt substrate with live plants?

In my case I am already using an auto water change system, and changing 5 gallons a day, so i swap out 35 gallons of water every week. pretty close to 100% water change every month already as it is without having to lift a finger. I could up it to as much as 30 a day if I needed to.

Best way to vacuum dirt substrate with live plants?

Sorry, I know I have been asking a lot of questions lately. Just doing a few things with this new tank that I simply don't have a ton of experience with. My old tanks were all gravel, under gravel filter systems back in the day. Those were pretty easy. pull out the Deco, clean them, vacuum with...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

You can post a little angry face at me all you want, but they viciously killed 3 angel fish in a matter of hours. And I had to get on a plane the next morning. I wasn't about to leave them in there and hope for the best. I have no second established tank, and I had no time to re-home them. I...

Out hose from Fluval inline UV light getting covered in dead crap?

Thanks. I kinda figured it had to be normal since it was obviously on the out hose that was effected. This is actually a stand alone unit and not part of the filter, and was rated with a high enough flow rate. My guess is they just crank up the power of the light. Must be killing some crap I...

Out hose from Fluval inline UV light getting covered in dead crap?

So, I have an in-line Fluval UV light treatment thing-a-ma-bob. This is a new thing from back when I used to have tanks for me, so I have little experience with them, but I am wondering if this is normal. The intake hose into the UV unit looks fine. Its the blueish hose in the picture. I am...

Hello from East London - coldwater native fish enthusiast

I teach scuba diving in a local quarry near my house, and they had it stocked years ago with native fish, and do not allow any fishing of any kind there, so the fish just grow and grow and grow. You'll just be skimming across the bottom and come across these huge huge pike, and bass. I think I...

Any need for activated carbon bag in my sump?

I dont think there is, but thought I would ask. So it dawned on me the other day that my Carbon bags in my sump are probably screwing up the auto dosing of my other chemicals. I have to micro dosers that pump in a measured amount of chemicals based on my auto water change system of 5 gallons a...
