Does anyone know what this is?

Yes, that is totally algae...what kind is the question, but more importantly, getting rid of it. There is probably some imbalance in your tank if it's growing like the one in the second picture.

    Pulling the Trigger

So I was told that Rummy Nose are a bit on the sensitive side when putting them into a new tank. I don't have the tools for a drip acclimation, but was planning on doing the following: 1. Turn off the aquarium lights 2. Place the bag in the aquarium 15-20 mins. to acclimate the fish to water...

    Pulling the Trigger

Two questions: 1-Would H. Rasboras be a good fit with Rummy Nose...I know they like to swim near the top 2-How many Rummy Nose can I put in my tank at one time tomorrow? I have a 75 gallon, it's a mature tank.

    Pulling the Trigger

That's great information! I also always worry about overstocking. Any suggestions on upper-level tetra tank swimmers? I think Rummy Nose are more mid to lower tank correct?

    Pulling the Trigger

Oh yes. You can't beat those colors...and they don't even need to be mature...instant color to your tank.

Ammonia level spiked crazy after water change

I've had issues with filter floss clogging up fast, but you've given me something to think about.

No, but I'll look them up. If they are near me I might go there too.

    Pulling the Trigger

I do want a peaceful tank, so I guess I'll go for an all Rummy Nose tank. Probably work my way up to 30-40 of them. Overstocking?

I live in Factoria. I go to Denny's Pet World. I prefer Aquarium Coop but they don't answer their phones anymore so I'm not going all the way to Edmonds to find out they don't have what I want.

    It's a 75g tank. I'll take that into consideration.

Ammonia level spiked crazy after water change

I was weary at first too. I do one part bleach, one part water. Soak the Purigen bag in for 24 hours. Then I thoroughly rinse in water and then soak it in water with one capful of Seachme prime for 8 hours and then rinse a lot again after that. I've never had issues with my fish so far.

Okay, I'm going to my LFS tomorrow. Here are my options: Congo Tetra tank with Rummy Nose Congo Tetra only tank Rummy Nose only tank Thoughts?

Ammonia level spiked crazy after water change

Interesting. Well it lasts in my filter for around one month. I can recharge it with water/bleach for up to 10-15 times so I guess for $10 a pop I can use it for a little over a year!

    Solution to No Quarantine Tank

thanks for the advice. I know stress is a huge aspect of fish getting sick. I'd love to have a quarantine tank, but don't have the space in my apartment...my 75 gallon takes up all my space :)

    Solution to No Quarantine Tank

Hey fish community. I plan on adding new fish to my tank soon, but don't have a quarantine tank. What sort of methods or options are out there for people in my situation?

    Java Fern Lopsided

I've reduced the lighting awhile ago since I knew it was too strong. It's also only on 6-7 hours a day. My floating plants are arriving today so we'll see if that helps.

    Java Fern Lopsided

The light is even throughout the tank. The outflow is on the right side and the intake is on the left.

    Java Fern Lopsided

I have a bunch of Java Fern Trident on each side of my tank. The right side is healthy while the left side is turning yellowish/brown. What is going on? They all came from multiple pots. Did I just get a couple of pots that aren't acclimating well? Note, I've had these for a month now.

    Preventing Fish Diseases

I don't get it either. They show a sick Discus getting better in a tank with this thing running. Maybe it's a scam, but I bought it to try it out and it seems to work. Either that or I got better at keeping fish!

    Preventing Fish Diseases

When I first entered the hobby I knew nothing about fish and the diseases that come with fish keeping. I've learned about ick, fungal and bacterial diseases. I also learned that stress can cause the fish to get sick with a weakened immune system. My question is this: Couldn't we use a UV water...

Can a WC kill our fish?

Can a WC kill our fish?

on a side note: I only have 2 female bettas in my 75g tank and every time I do a gravel vac there is a bunch of detritus / organic matter that I pick up. How can two small fish produce so much waste in one week? Am I missing something?

Can a WC kill our fish?

My guess is that there are those who don't do proper water changes. Here is how I was taught: -Do a 50% water change every 1-2 weeks and gravel vac at the same time -Clean the canister 1-2 days after the water change (or vice versa...the stagger approach) -Only use tank water to clean your...

Can a WC kill our fish?

I recently came across a video that posed this question: Could Water Changes kill our fish? The premise of the video is that when we do a water change we usually clean our media and vacuum our gravel. This will cause an Ammonia and Nitrite spike that will stress out our fish that eventually...

Well my 75 gallon is just the start. I eventually want a 300+ gallon tank with around 500 tetras schooling!
