Video Video of new little CPD babies

In my experience CPDs do best and are the most fun to watch in larger groups of 10-20 in at least a 20G which is what I have. Of course 4 in a 6 gallon can work well too. Not to encourage MTS, but you could get a 20G and use the 6G as a breeding tank for them. For that you would only need one...

Video Video of new little CPD babies

Interesting. A couple of your shrimp seem to have a nice orange tinge to them. When you get a big school of healthy CPDs it's super fun. They are beautiful and interesting to watch. I can sit in front of my CPD tank for a while and watch them. It's my favorite tank I have. I set up a...

Video Video of new little CPD babies

That looks like a beautiful tank. I love those orange shrimp. When I used the Quarantine Trio it didn't seem to harm the shrimp from what I could tell. It's designed to be ok for shrimp as well as fish.

Video Video of new little CPD babies

If they are eating it then I'm sure that's not the problem; looks like good food. It could also be that my tank is heavily planted so maybe the shrimplets manage to hide. It could also be if they are unwell. Give the Aquarium Co Op Quarantine trio meds a shot. That worked for me twice with...

Video Video of new little CPD babies

I have donzens of shrimp in my CPD tank with 16 CPDs. I've never noticed them preying on the shrimp, even the babies. What are you feeding the CPDs. Maybe they are unusually hungry and don't like or eat the food they being given? Or maybe a parasite is keeping them hungry?

    New Tank Advice

I agree that shrimp enjoy a mature aquarium, but I have four tanks with shrimp and each time I added shrimp immediately after cycling and they have done just fine. Didn't lose any from what I could tell and the populations are all thriving. One small tip on picking colors. I put Blue Velvet...

Video Video of new little CPD babies

I have a lot of experience with CPDs. From what I've seen, they often come with parasites and other problems when you buy them from a store. I'm not sure wha the issue is, but may be it has to do with how they are bred or they are more susceptible for some reason. I found I had to quarantine...

    New Tank Advice

Sounds like a great plan. Anubias sound great. Maybe consider Java fern and a floating plant like frogbit too. As for schooling fish. They are super common, but I love my Neon Tetras and they may fit what you're looking for. Celestial Pearl Danios are also wonderful fish but aren't as hardy...

    Shrimp Tank for Bettas?

Yes, you do get shrimp back in the compartments from time to time. You just have to clean it out once in a while which is a pain, but manageable.

Introducing Myself and my Betta Kera

Welcome! It sounds like your setting is working well, but for the long-run, I would suggest considering a 5G for your betta. In my experience, they do so much better with just a little more space.

    Shrimp Tank for Bettas?

Here are some other pictures in case they help. You'll have to excuse all the little people in the way. Ha.

    Shrimp Tank for Bettas?

Yes, three sockets. I just use a power strip. I bought the heater from Aquarium Co Op which fits perfectly in the compartment so it's out of the way. It has worked well. There is a big sponge basically in the hidden compartment and it has some bio rings and carbon that you can rinse or...

    Shrimp Tank for Bettas?

The filter and light need separate sockets by the way.

    Shrimp Tank for Bettas?

I have my betta in the fluval Spec V and I love it. It's been great. You will need a sponge to cover the filter outlet because the flow is too strong but that's easy to get. I added a small sponge filter to mine. Beautiful, great little tank. Perfect for a betta in my opinion.

I think my Betta is really ill

Sometimes the API test kit zero can look like 0.25 under certain lighting I've found. What was the fin tear from and the fungus?

    Nano Tank Ideas

I have dozens in my 5G and it's just fine.

    Striped kuhli loaches

I put four kuhlis in my new tank (after cycling of course) and they have done perfectly well and are happy in there. They do a great job cleaning up any leftover food that gets to the bottom. Make sure they have places to hide. They are fun to watch. Super cool little fish.

Small white bugs in Betta tank.

I have similar creatures in my 5G betta tank. Not sure what they are but they don't seem to cause any harm and my betta snacks on them I've noticed.

My betta has fin rot in my 4 month old tank! Help!

He doesn't look that bad to me. If you test the parameters of your water and everything is good, I would just focus on doing more frequent water changes and keeping the water pristine for a while and see if that helps. It can be disruptive and stressful for a betta to do all of that moving him...

    poorly harlequin and other travails

Sounds like to me like you may have introduced a parasite of some kind. Others may disagree with this, but in the past I've added the Aquarium Co Op Quarantine Trio when in doubt in these situations and it's solved my problem both times I did it.
  24. hansgruber7

    poorly harlequin and other travails

You should test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates. We would need more information about your set-up to be able to help you. It sounds to me like you may have a water quality issue. It could also be a parasite. Have you introduced anything new recently?

    Nano Tank Ideas

I have kept dwarf shrimp in a 5G and it's easy and works great. You can keep java ferns, dwarf sag, and frogbit with a normal light in a 5G. I have also kept a betta in a 5G and it seems to work. Some bettas are ok with shrimp and some are not. Depends how aggressive they are.

    Betta Slime coat/receding fin

It sounds to me like you have a water quality issue. Try regular testing with the API test kit. You'll want to make sure ammonia and nitrite are zero and that nitrates are low. Of course the chlorine and chloramine could be a problem too.
  27. hansgruber7

    Betta Slime coat/receding fin

Make sure you check your water quality. What are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings?

What if im unable to have a quarantine tank?

If you just add everything you intend to add at once, then you can treat your tank as a QT tank. Just try not to add fish later or you risk infecting your established tank.

NEW BETTA INACTIVE FOR 2 DAYS (PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE IN BETTA CARE)

In my experience, Bettas don't do so well with other fish. He might just be a bit shocked at the transition and may recover in a couple days. I would just do regular water changes and clean the substrate and the filters out. Have you tried different types of food? Some bettas can be picky...

what is the quickest way to get rid of myriads of aquarium snails?

Just get an assassin snail. They do a great job of cleaning up unwanted snails.
  31. hansgruber7

    Please help! Fin rot?

I would get a filter and start testing the water with an API test kit for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate especially. I wouldn't recommend 100% water changes. Don't do more than 80% at a time.

    Sickly amazon sword

I use the Aquarium Co Op root tabs and my Amazon Sword is doing great.
  33. hansgruber7

    Sickly amazon sword

It's either old leaves melting from adjusting to new conditions, or it could be a nutrient deficiency. Are you using root tabs regularly?

    My betta...

I had Celestial Pearl Danios and Kuhli Loaches. They all got along fine with the betta, but feeding was difficult. The betta kept pigging out or not getting anything. Also, the CPDs were super shy with the betta, but once I moved him to the 5G and added some more, they became much bolder and...

    My betta...

You can keep some bettas in a community tank successfully, but in my experience they do better and it's easier to manage if you keep them alone. When I tried the community tank in a 20G, it was surprisingly difficult to navigate feeding. Bettas will overeat and get sick if you're not careful...

    My betta...

I made the same mistake with my first betta. It's a steep learning curve, but once you know the basics you can really enjoy your betta. Just cycle your tank and make sure you test your water and you can enjoy a beautiful betta with personality for years!
  37. hansgruber7

betta color change- good bad or normal?

He looks a little stressed in the after picture. Have you tested your water parameters? I would increase your water changes to at least once a week and make sure you're testing for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates especially.

    One aggresive Neon Tetra...help please!

Not much you can do. It will probably mellow out over time, but if it remains a problem, you could always try to catch him and take him out. Sometimes if you remove the bully for a few weeks and then reintroduce him it changes the power dynamic.

    Nerite escape.

Sometimes I think it's because there isn't enough algae for them. But they are escape artists if you don't have a good lid. Had a few escape from my tank.
