    Questions about my Betta

Also, I would not recommend adding neon tetras or dwarf frogs. The tank is too small for neon tetras and sometimes they nip the fins of bettas and stress them out. Dwarf frogs were already covered by others. In a ten gallon, I would recommend snails, but otherwise, they are best on their own...

    Questions about my Betta

Beautiful Betta! I have tried on four occasions to keep Bettas with shrimp so I have a lot of experience. Twice it ended in all of my shrimp being murdered one by one. Twice it worked out well because those bettas were very relaxed bettas and they were heavily planted tanks. However, even in...

    Looking for Algae Eater

Yes, true. They are quite boisterous and I had to get rid of mine when he got older for attacking my other fish. He did such a great job with algae I was sorry to see him go. I thought it was just him. Didn't realize they may all be like that.

The Chinese Algae Eater is pretty good in experience at this sort of thing.

    New Betta, please help!

If his behavior is fine and there are no other issues, I wouldn't worry about. Make sure the ammonia is zero and that your tank is fully cycled.

Stocking ideas for a 3-gallon tank?

You are pretty much limited to shrimp and snails with a 3 gallon in my opinion. Shrimp are super fun though. Pick your favorite color and go for it.

Will treated fin rot fall away and regrow or heal where it is damaged?

What testing kit are you using? An Ammonia reading of 0.1 isn't something I've seen before. It's also strange that your nitrates are at zero. My understanding is that in a fully cycled tank, nitrates are usually above zero. I find the API kit to be pretty good. Your PH is a little high and...

    Best way to raise hardness

There's also Seachem Equilibrium I think but maybe not the cheapest option. I think you can put crushed coral in your filter too if I'm not mistaken.

    Lighting Schedule

I have had the best results with lights on between 8-10 hours. It all depends on a number of factors, so just experiment with adjusting lights and ferts until it seems your plants are healthy and your algae is under control.

    Brown algae

I've read that algae comes from an inbalance in light and nutrients. So it could be that you have too many nutrients in the water based on the light and the plant usage. Are you dosing anything? Have you tested your tap water? Sometimes mixing in RO water can reduce algae. Or you could put...

    Betta help!

I have a friend who is a professional in the field of fishkeeping (university researcher) and he told me I should add a little API Aquarium Salt to my RO water to avoid problems with osmoregulation. He also recommended adding some seachem equilibrium to water changes or crushed coral to raise...

    Brown algae

Try adjusting how long your lights are on, or adjusting any nutrients you may be putting in the tank, or reducing the feeding. Those are all things that helped me reduce algae.

    Betta help!

I do RO water as well. Have you checked your GH and KH? I had to raise the GH and KH of my RO water. Also, low salinity can be a problem with RO water and fish can have trouble with osmoregulation as a result. I had to add some aquarium salt. Worth thinking about.

    Betta help!

What are you adding back into the RO water? What are your test readings coming out to? Beautiful fish by the way.

I'm not even certain. Maybe someone else knows? I love bettas; it's what got me into this hobby....three tanks later. My wife says I have a terrible case of MTS.

I would just add some more Neon Tetras. The more of them together the more interesting they are I think.

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

I have successfully kept Bettas with Harlequin rasbora and also with CPDs. The feeding is the toughest part to navigate in my experience. Also, even if there isn't actual fighting, I think the betta can get stressed out by the presence of the other fish, depending on the personality of the...

Cherry Barbs and Celestial Pearl Danios

I vote to go single species CPD tank if you can. They are beautiful and wonderful to watch in their own tank. Another point to note just anecdotally, young CPDs seem to be much more sensitive to water quality issues than other fish in my experience. Make sure your water quality reading are...

Cherry Barbs and Celestial Pearl Danios

I don't know much about cherry barbs, but I have a CPD only tank and they do great when they have their own tank. You see them a lot more and they are out and about. I had a betta in there with them for a while and they used to be skittish and hide until I moved the betta. Just something to...
