    HELP! Betta has dropsy!

Hi there. I'm so sorry your fish got dropsy. First, Dropsy is incredibly difficult to treat, and most opt for euthanization at the sight of it. I've only successfully treated Dropsy once, and that was when the pinceconing was only behind the gills, but the fish was so swollen she had a lower...

Water changes - what is "normal"?

I don't wait till tests show a problem; I never get problems. All my tanks are 0/0/0 (the goldfish one was for nearly 7 months, recently got some nitrates). My tap water is essentially RO, 30TDS, 0kH. None at all! I was dealing with pH swing at first, one day 6.6, the next below 6 (luckily...

Water changes - what is "normal"?

Personally, I think you have to balance nitrates and kH. Do a water change if nitrates are over 20 (not possible for those wirh nitrate in the water though) or do a water change when kH drops to avoid a pH swing. I normally do 10% a month for my tanks, but they're essentially filterless still...

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Haha, awesome, way better than I expected, thanks! I normally go filterless, just recently added a bubbler to break up surface film for the babies. Guess I may go with 2 males and 5 females, this tank is gonna look so cool!

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Also, this is very interesting to hear about! I didn't know that number could be housed in that sized tank. I've been debating how many to add to a 30×12×12 tank, and I've been thinking 1-2 males, 3-5 females. Would you have any recommendations? And do you happen to know what kind of decor you...

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Me? I already have some and since I have ~30 little babies that are almost 2 months, I'd say they're doing fine! :D I don't check my pH too regularly, out of the tap it's 6.4-6.6, kH 0, gH 3, TDS 30-40 Oh but I added IAL's and other stuff, and since I've only done one water change, pH is...

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Nice, what size tank? What was the sex ratio?

    Prehistoric Fish?

For a 20 gallon, I know a few oddballs, not all are going to look super prehistoric. Your best bets for a prehistoric looking fish are these, though some require extremely advanced care: Thalassophryne Amazonica Also Monocirrhus polyacanthus, Carinotetraodonlorteti, mottled sculpin, African...

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Sounds like a solid plan then, out of curiosity, are you making it a community tank?

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Nice, though from experience, I would really go with a 20 long for them, I assume you're getting a pair?

    Pre-filter question

The only reason they say to replace is it because the carbon no longer works at that point, so I just cut out the carbon and keep using it. You'd have to cut it out anyway if you needed to medicate the tank or dose fertilizers too.

    Prehistoric Fish?

What size tank are you willing to maintain? Would you be able to feed live food (not feeder goldfish, those have a chemical that is damaging long term, but most other feeder fish are fine, but things like white worms and what not)? What type of money do you want to spend? Sorry, but your...

Hi, sorry I'll reply here instead of the chat, lol, still learning. Can you post a picture of them? Do any have sunken in stomachs?

    Any other Imbellis keepers??

Anyone else have some imbellis out there? I'd like to talk about what you guys have found makes them the happiest, just to see if I can improve my set up.

    Nice to meet y'all!

I recognize you as well... They're these funky little snails that come in a lot of color varieties, and sort of look like rabbits.... Or elephants, depending, lol. The big ones can get 4+ inches, but the mini ones stay around an inch.

    Hello there

Don't worry, you were one of the main reasons he came over here

    Pre-filter question

Using plants as a filter is very achievable, most of my tanks are built like this, but you have to make sure you have some kind of sponge plant, eg anacharis, Pennywort, hornwort, anything that has visible daily growth. You have to test your parameters really carefully for a solid two months to...

    Nice to meet y'all!

Hi there, new to the forum, but I'm no beginner! I have like 14 tanks, lol, most 10 gal and under (smallest cycled one I have is a 1.8 gallon with my mini rabbit snail, he's in there while I treat for Hydra in his old home). I have a 60 gallon with a stunted common goldfish (is it ideal? No, but...
