    Rasbora with redness and swelling

Hi! I have a 20 gallon planted tank with a school of rasbora hets, a female betta, and a mystery snail. This tank is well established, coming up on its one year anniversary. I have had the rasboras since Christmas time. Anyway, just recently I noticed one of the rasboras was not schooling with...

Winner! - June 2018 FishForums Tank of the Month

Hey everyone, sorry for the late update. I wanted to let you all know that I upgraded the Shell Dwellers to a 20 gallon long. They started breeding and after only 8 weeks, I decided to upgrade them. Since I was tank of the month with the 10 gallon set up, I wanted to let everyone know that, in...

Hey everyone, I know I haven't been by in a while. But I wanted to let you all know that I upgraded the Shell Dwellers to a 20 gallon long. They started breeding and after only 8 weeks, I decided to upgrade them. Since I was tank of the month with the 10 gallon set up, I wanted to let everyone...

Sorry for the delay. TBH, they started breeding quickly, and I ran out of space and upgraded them to a 20 gallon long after only 8 weeks in the 10 gallon. If you want to try this, I suggest you get 1 male and 2 or 3 females, not 2 males and 4 females like me. Because mine bred, and it became...

Shell Dweller Tank 6 Week Update: A lot has changed in my 10 gallon shell dweller tank since the last video. Both males have bred. I got more shells. The fry are developing. The sand has been moved around again (and again, and again). And it looks like the 2 females who haven't bred yet are...

Top dweller compatible with my Shell Dwellers?

Thanks Colin. I just looked those species up, and realized I should have a 20 gallon high if I want an open water fish with my shellies, instead of a 20 gallon long. I already have the tank. Looks like I'm keeping it a species tank. I'm kinda sad too, because I really want that Tanganyikan...

Top dweller compatible with my Shell Dwellers?

I'll be upgrading my shell dwellers (neolamprologus multifasciatus) from their current 10 gallon tank to a 20 gallon long soon. They've been breeding and I think they'll appreciate the extra space. Are there any other fish from Lake Tanganyika that would work as a top dweller in this tank...

Axolotls are so fun! They're much more interactive than people expect. Mine creepily stares at me the entire time I'm in the room. And if I approach the tank she swims up to the front, top, center because she knows I feed her there.

    29gal Shell-Dweller Colony

That's great that you got more shells! They will definitely use them. With these guys the males are certainly more dominant and aggressive than the females. And the males will lip lock and fight with each other. If it gets to be too bad, you might have to separate one of the males from the...

    Upsizing

It sounds to me like you need a bottom dweller. You can get a solitary bottom dweller, like a pleco or a rainbow shark, or you can get a shoaling bottom dweller, like corydoras or loaches. Also, you have 2 different schools of 6 tetras. Unfortunately, fish only school with the same species...

    Upsizing

1: There are several methods you can use to clean this tank. One method is to use a mixture of 1 part bleach to 19 parts water, and then rinse and dry thoroughly several times after the cleaning to get all the bleach residue off. Another method is to use vinegar. Some people will even suggest...

    29gal Shell-Dweller Colony

I think I paid $17 per fish. Give or take. They weren't cheap. If you want more action in the top of the water column, I would say add some vertical hardscape elements, like some tall porous rock. Yes, these guys prefer shells to retreat to, but they will also retreat behind rocks or into the...

    29gal Shell-Dweller Colony

Hey another shell dweller tank! :) I've got 6 of these guys in a 10 gallon and they've already started breeding. You definitely want to give them more shells, though. Think 4 or 5 shells per fish. They will utilize them. However, I will say, with 6 of these in a 10 gallon tank, they don't use...

    Stocking A 29 Freshwater Tank

Since you're kind of restricted to shopping at a chain pet store, corys might end up being your best bet for a bottom dweller. But keep in mind, most corys like soft, acidic water. And in most urban areas, tap water is hard and alkaline. This is why @Byron asked about your water parameters. We...

How does my Halfmoon Betta male look?

Hi. He looks wonderfully healthy! His fins look nice and healthy, and his coloring looks nice. I see no obvious signs of ich or columnaris. I too have experience with keeping bettas in community tanks, or with tank mates in general. And in my experience, when the betta is the first fish added...

    Problem with Kuhli loach quarantine

Seconded - get a sponge filter for the quarantine tank. You probably have to buy it online, though. Chain pet stores don't carry them and I haven't seen them in my local fish stores. In the meantime, you might be able to put a sponge around the filter intake.

    New here

The problem is, there's so many bottom dwellers that need to be in groups, and the ones who don't need to be in groups are super territorial or grow too large for a 10 gallon tank. That's why I suggest pygmy corys. They still need to be kept in a group, but they're much smaller than other, more...

Hi! Which colorful fish to use?

Are those "zebra striped fish" zebra danios? Are you looking for colorful schooling fish, or a centerpiece fish? Agreed with Colin - please verify if this tank is cycled or not. Also, adding too many fish too fast can crash a tank. Don't be in a hurry.

    New here

Greetings! If you don't want to mess with cutting up a sponge filter, just buy another sponge filter and run it as a secondary filter in your frog tank for a week or so. Then move it to the new tank. In a 10 gallon tank, corys may not be such a great idea. Corys are a shoaling fish and need to...

Betta has possible internal parasites? Please help!

I recommend API General Cure for deworming if you can get it. It has the active ingredient from prazi pro as well as another active ingredient that treats threadworms. The white stringy poo could be either threadworms or tapeworm, and without knowing for sure which one your fish has, I say get...

Betta has possible internal parasites? Please help!

If he is the only inhabitant of his tank, there’s no need to quarantine him if it does come down to treatment. He’s already quarantined if he’s the only inhabitant. In fact, treating him in his main tank would prevent a situation of you curing him only to reinfect him by putting him back in a...

New to the hobby! Help with decisions.

Okay. I don't know what the water is like in Wisconsin, but we are asking that you get your exact water parameters because it's not a question of if the water is "good" or not. It's a matter of how soft or hard is the water? How alkaline or acidic is the water? For example, Washington (west...

New to the hobby! Help with decisions.

Agreed we need to know what your local water is like before we can recommend specific fish. Some like hard water, some like soft water, some like it real acidic, some like it real alkaline. IDK if you're in the US or UK or what, but usually you can get on your water company's website or city's...

That is a gorgeous dumbo ear feather tail betta! I have a female that would be perfect to breed with him! I know. There's a LOT of products on the market that do that. Pet stores even tell people 24 hours. Marketing and proper fish keeping are not the same thing. The marketing worked though, because you bought one. Now watch as the reality is nothing like what was promised. I really wish these...
