    What's the craic from Ireland

I disagree. My first fish was a betta. In a community tank. With neons. With the appropriate research, and the right people advising them, it can be done easily enough. Just look at any forum other than this one, it works out fine quite often when the right people do the advising. The right...

Such thing as a small pleco

Hypancistrus debilittera L129, the Colombian Zebra Pleco. They can get up to 4 inches, but are often around 3. They still shouldn't be in a tank smaller than 20 gallons though. Then there is the pitbull pleco, Parotocinclus jumbo. They tend to max out around three inches, but are more often...

    What's the craic from Ireland

I disagree that bettas aren't community fish. It depends on the individual. Every single one of mine has been in a community and they do just fine. If he isn't bothering your other fish and doesn't seem bothered by its presence, then your all good. Just keep an eye on them.

New to group, need help identifying fish.

You have a Corydoras aeneus and a striped raphael catfish. The latter of which will get quite big and neither of which are suited for a 10g. Corydoras like shoals of their own.

New to group, need help identifying fish.

Gold ram, Mikrogeophagus ramirezi. Cherry barb. Buenos Aires and a Congo tetra. These will get too big for the tank size, the 55 should do fine. And they will need schools.

Something else came in my fish bag

They are similar, but bladder snails and pond snails aren't the same snails. Pond snails are Lymnaea species, bladders are Physella species. These ones look to be bladders.

Something else came in my fish bag

I'm not seeing a ramshorn? Looks to be a bladder snail.

Can a WC kill our fish?

I do 50-75% water changes once a week. I clean my filters once a month, on a water change day. No issues. I rinse my media in tank water, though every now and then I will rinse my sponges in tap water. And I can't even remember the last time I tested my water. When I did used to test, I would...

Need help indentifying gender of rams

Colour isn't used to sex Bolivians. They can both be drab, they can both look stunning. Their colours can look drab especially if they are newly added, or young, stressed and not in the best of health. Which I believe is true in all cases here. The ventral and anal fins are pointed, the caudal...

Not the best pic either, but looks like a male too. Looks like his belly might be sunken a bit?

Need help indentifying gender of rams

He has both a German blue ram and a Bolivian ram. Not a great mix imo, best to stick to one species rather than mix the two. The German blue looks like a male from those pics, though admittedly GBR aren't my area. We'd need a better pic of the Bolivian to be sure of its sex.

    Identifying baby rabbit snails

They live under the substrate for most of the day. I'm sure you would have quite a few more under there.
  13. B

    Identifying baby rabbit snails

Fairly sure they should display colour when they hatch. That looks like a Malaysian trumpet snail rather than a rabbit snail.

What are differences between aquariums owned by rich people vs aquariums owned by poor/normal people?

I'm neither poor, nor rich, but I find it strange that simply by having more money you would be seen as not caring as much about your fish. And I've seen plenty of poor/normal people bragging about their fish too. I see a great amount of people "bragging" about their fish and tanks on aquarium...

Can you help me identify this fish?

Looks to be Labiobarbus lineatus, or some such species.

Whats your favorite tetra and why?

I never had any issues with black skirts when I had them. I found them to be perfectly peaceful. In a larger group of 15-20 there should be even less problems. A lot of the time the nipping can come from being in an insufficiently sized group. Even my serpae tetras never gave me any problems.
  17. B

    Mean Gold Gourami

Gold gourami, a Trichopodus trichopterus variant. Not the most peaceful gourami, and they get quite big too.
  18. B

Whats your favorite tetra and why?

Not much of a tetra guy, but love any of the congo tetra species. Stunning looks and love their size.
  19. B

    What am I

    Giant danio.
  20. B

    Dwarf Ram

There are a great many fish bred like this. Pearls, mollies and rams as mentioned. Then there are longfinned balloon neon tetras, short bodied oscars, spotted gars and arowana and so on. Not a single one I agree with.

    New Crayfish/Lobster Need info!

If this is the electric blue crayfish, Procambarus alleni, they will get far too big for a 5 gallon. These ones can get pretty big, and they are pretty active too. If you are referring to the blue brazos dwarf cray, then they would be a better fit. A 10 gallon would be preferable, but a 5...
  22. B

    Dwarf Ram

This is Mikrogeophagus ramirezi. Same as the German blue ram. This is a balloon variety of M. ramirezi. Any ram that you see that isn't a standard Bolivian will be one of the M. ramirezi variants.

    Ghost x Blue Dream Shrimp?

It's unheard of because they simply can't breed. I don't see any resemblance to ghosts in those pictures of neos. The presence of clear patches in their shell is not an indicator of ghost parenthood, neos get that. Neocaridina will produce offspring of varying colour intensities, it's why you...

Siamese algae eater true or false?

I would agree with you that it is Garra cambodgiensis. Garra taeniata, as you referred to it as, is no longer a valid name.
  25. B

Siamese algae eater true or false?

Garra will eat algae yes. You should also feed foods such as vegetables, and they will need a bit of protein too. Do you have any pictures of the fish so we can check?

How do you think many of these fish get to the LFS? Either way, in many cases they will be shipped.

    shrimp id please

The American ghost shrimp. The orange on the antennae gives that away.
  28. B

    "Plant" ID please

Love these plants. For years people thought it was a liverwort or a moss, but it's actually an aquatic fern. It's also appropriate that you felt it was a seaweed type plant, as Süsswassertang translates to freshwater seaweed, which it does look like.

    More?

It certainly is. It's my go to place alongside planetcatfish and a few others. But it can't always be right. It's impressive that you can sway things there. The neon thing has bugged me for a while, so it would be cool if it could be revised.
  30. B

    More?

I find that personal experiences, especially of those that are well experienced, often surpass care sheets. Seriouslyfish is a good site for information, but there is a lot that I disagree with. For instance it states that 28 degrees (82 F) is a suitable temperature for neon tetras, I wouldn't...
  31. B

    More?

I wouldn't just do one. They do great in pairs/groups. They are one of the most peaceful gourami there is.

    Help identifying a fish

Crossocheilus reticulatus. Goes by the silver flying fox or reticulated flying fox/siamese algae eater depending in where they are sold.
  33. B

    Female Bolivian ram?

Yes that is a female. The fins and head don't look overly male to me, my females all have slightly "masculine" fins. The tube is definitely female. My experience with my fish and through other forums differs quite a bit from many of this forum. I've found Bolivians to be quite peaceful (other...

Sorry to hear. I can understand wanting to lock the thread in that case, I'm sure people could just PM you if they see anything seriously wrong that may need correcting. Hopefully one of the mods will sort you out to lock the thread when they log on. Though I could also see why a mod might...

    Locking a thread?

It would be best to wait for one of the mods to reply, but I'll reply in the meantime. On the forums I've been on it wasn't possible to lock one as a member. A mod had to take care of it, I'd assume that's the same on this forum. Usually on the other forums you could just tag a mod and ask them...

Can ghost shrimp breed in freshwater

This isn't necessarily true. They will hatch, they just won't live long, and they will be so small that you won't notice them. They can live anywhere from a few days to a week in freshwater before they die off. Usually about a year.
  39. B

What type of fish is this?

It looks to be a young, pretty unhealthy Synodontis catfish. Possibly a featherfin.
