    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

These were made by a different company than the ones that make the other glofish, but there are also glo angelfish, glo convict cichlids and glo ricefish. Possibly more.

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

My opinion is certainly unpopular around here and tends to spark some reactions when mentioned. Not all domestic bettas are unsuited for community tanks and depending on the individual and the tank mates, they can do very well in them. All of mine have been in communities.

    Missing Bolivian ram

Are you sure the ram that is missing is a Bolivian? In the picture you supplied above, there is a German blue ram and not a Bolivian. Blue rams need their water pretty warm. Unfortunately as mentioned above, your stocking is not great. A jack could certainly eat a ram if it is big enough or...

    Which Ram is this?

Looks to be an electric blue orange head ram. So the same species as the German blue ram, Mikrogeophagus ramirezi.

Yep, paradise fish are also gourami. I've never looked into these contests before, so I didn't know bettas weren't included until it was mentioned here. It was just a bit strange to see them not included. But if that's the way it's preferred, then I can understand.

I would say it would be fair. It's a contest to see which is the best gourami of that month, so imo it should include them all. To be honest, if it wasn't fair to put a giant gourami against a betta, it wouldn't be fair to put a giant gourami against most gourami. Or the fancier bettas against...

Bettas are gourami. So I would have assumed that they would fit into the gourami month.

You have a betta don't you? So you have a gourami.

    Is this crazy?

Supply and demand. They are very sought after and they don't have large clutches. They shouldn't be wild caught as far as I'm aware. They are endangered due to dam building and there has been an export ban from Brazil since 2004. Last I checked that was still in place.

    Is this crazy?

Not crazy. They are most often sold for 200+. I saw some for 160 and thought that was a fairly good deal.

Middle ground needed for betta tankmate...

Not purposefully, and I wouldn't say that it was on purpose. They want a nice tank, that's understandable. And it often ends up with dead shrimp. I house all my bettas with shrimp. I house all my bettas with other fish. When you do things right, it can be done. I just find it strange that people...

Middle ground needed for betta tankmate...

Who said we are against them? Amano shrimp are larger and clearer, so they are less likely to be eaten. Depending on the betta, cherries may get on fine or be wiped out within a day. If the amanos work out (which they usually do), then cherries would be more likely to work out. Personally, I...

Middle ground needed for betta tankmate...

Bamboo shrimp like more flow than a betta would like. So I wouldn't do them. Amanos would make a better fit.

Issue with male and female pearl Gouramis

Yes, they are both males. You can see that the "female" has a red throat in that last pic you added, which females don't get. And the dorsal fin is too long for it to be a female. You can see a female in this picture on the left. As you can see, silver throat and shorter dorsal fin. The best...

    We found this worm

Looks to be crane fly larvae. They aren't much harm as they feed off of detritus, decaying plant matter and some will eat small insects.

can someone help me identify this gourami.

The can be aggressive, more so than many other gourami. Having another gourami in there can pose a problem.

    Help! Gourami on sponge filter

Do you have a better picture of him? It's best to treat this as something that can actually be treated, and not jump to DGIV, which is really overstated. Details on the tank mates and water quality can only serve to help as well.

    New betta...

I usually wait a day before feeding new fish. But if they are looking very relaxed and settled in, I will feed them before then.

One of my bettas went missing

Do you have any dogs or cats that could have picked it off the floor? I'd look around all the nooks and crannies of the tank to see if you can find a body if you haven't already. Even moving decorations and or plants a bit if you are able.
  26. B

    New betta...

I would leave it personally, if he is finding it to be a comfortable place to hide. If there is a place he can get stuck, or you are worried about it, I would move it forward a little bit to give him more room.

    Overstocking - Flex 15

Depending on the betta, that can be the case. My bettas have been with rasbora their whole lives.
  28. B

    Overstocking - Flex 15

My bettas are with other fish too. Hopefully your betta works out in your tank, just keep an eye on them if they are staying that way. I wouldn't get more rasbora. Best not to have too much movement to stress out a betta.

    New betta...

That is the unfortunate reality of shops that sell them in cups. And why I wouldn't support them if they did that here. A shame they are still sold that way. I wouldn't necessarily term it rescue though. Saving is appropriate and it's good he is in a better place. It may just be the pictures...

    New betta...

I wouldn't say rescue is the right word. I think he looks great. Very beautiful. From those pics, I can't see that the spine is bent, it looks normal to me, at least in the second pic. But a picture doesn't tell the full story.

    Banjo catfish?

By traditional gravel I take it you mean the larger stoned gravel? I've had mine on both pea gravel and sand. It didn't like the pea gravel.
  32. B

    Banjo catfish?

I would do a sand substrate with banjos. They like to bury in it, and I found that they don't like gravel very much. I've never tried dirt, but I would suspect it wouldn't be as easy to bury in.

Do I give this blue goby a home?

Not at all. They are relatively small(ish) and are quite a slim fish. The bioload shouldn't be too big. Do you know if it's male or female?
  37. B

Do I give this blue goby a home?

You could. It is aufwuchs that is important for these guys. If you have doubts that you can keep it fed, I wouldn't get it. But if you can grow it well enough and if the tank is established, it should do fine. Stores don't tend to have the growth necessary to feed them. But don't get a fish that...

Do I give this blue goby a home?

If you can grow algae on your glass and decor, and are willing to do so, it isn't hard to keep them fed. Smooth rocks are best to grow some aufwuchs for them to eat. They will eat certain foods, sometimes algae wafers, vegetables or other sinking wafers. But the aufwuchs is the most important...

Any tips on breeding bolivian blue ram cichlids?

Also onto your question. If you want to breed them, don't keep them with any of those fish at all. Keep them in their own tank, that is set up to meet their temperature needs. Breeding rams in a community tank is not going to work.

Any tips on breeding bolivian blue ram cichlids?

Definitely agree with the others, a GBR is not suited for the tank. You have some issues with your stocking as it is. The ram won't like the water as it is too cold, and some of your other fish won't like the warm water that the ram needs. I wouldn't even recommend a Bolivian ram, which would do...
