    Help identifying gourami please

I kept a group of each together and they did fine. Not singles though. The thick lipped part of the sunset enables them to grow bigger than actual honeys, and a bit more aggressive too.

    Help identifying gourami please

Yep, first is a thick lipped gourami, or rather, it is a hybrid between the two mentioned species. Second is an actual honey. Sunset honeys are usually thick lipped gourami or hybrids. As are red honeys.

    I'm half-thinking of getting a bristle nose pleco . . .

There are species that tend to be smaller. L471, pitbull pleco, Colombian zebra plecos are a few. Starlights should average 4-5 inches as well

    I'm half-thinking of getting a bristle nose pleco . . .

Bristlenose should average out at 4 to 5 inches, though I have seen some even bigger. They certainly don't bother fish, but mine don't move around my decor/plnats. I would agree with @Russjw on the tank size.

Pleco Adoption Update & Aquarium fish pics

Great to see their lovely new home. I'm sure they will have a great life there. Who knows, I may even see them there one day.

How big should the tank be for these?

Just stunning! Their blue eyes are very striking and the red on the fins is so lovely. Very underrated indeed. That's fine, and I respect that. Nothing wrong with different opinions

How big should the tank be for these?

I'd be interested to see some data to back that up. You added a single black skirt to a tank with a betta did you not? As well as emperor tetras, a fish that can be nippy? The result of that was not the fault of the fish involved, but due to the wrong fish being stocked. I would second...

How big should the tank be for these?

Cherry shrimp are Neocaridina davidi, crystal shrimp are Caridina cantonensis. Different species from a different genus, they can't breed. Different species of Neocaridina can interbreed, but not across genera.

Agree, this is all that it is.

    Rosy barb breeding

Shallow water actually helps trigger them to spawn. They prefer it that way. They have been known to breed in water that is only a few inches deep. Which is why a smaller tank is best for breeding, I did it in a 10 gallon. But yes, it helps with that too.

    Rosy barb breeding

    1. They are just very small, clearish spheres. 2. They are eggs scatterers, mine spawned among floating plants and the eggs sank to the bottom of the tank. I had a layer of marbles on the bottom and a spawning mop, to ensure the parents wouldn't eat them. The parents were removed when the...

    What fish is this

I haven't heard that common name applied to any of the sailfin plecos. This certainly isn't Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, Pterygoplichthys pardalis or any of the plecos sold as sailfins that I've seen. It certainly looks like Hypancistrus to me

New planted tank - what fertilisers/foods are shrimp safe?

Copper levels that are present in fertilizers are only in trace amounts, this is no harm for shrimp. Most shrimp foods have trace amounts of copper too. Besides, shrimp need a certain amount of copper in order for oxygen transport through their blood. It is higher quantities of copper that can...

    I kill everything

Water sprite is the way to go if you can get your hands on it. If you manage to kill it, I will be thoroughly impressed. It grows like a weed.

    What fish is this

They can actually do quite well in communities. I've seen them do well with Corydoras for one, as they are both meat favouring omnivores, so they have similar diets.
  18. B

    What fish is this

Yes, bloodworms, brine shrimp and other such live/frozen foods would do them good. As well as sinking carnivore pellets, which should satisfy their need for protein. Though as they are omnivores they will need some plant based foods as well, algae wafers and vegetables and the like. They are a...

    What fish is this

Looks like a pale Colombian zebra pleco, Hypancistrus debilittera, to me. There are a few species that look similar to this though. These have more of a preference for a meaty diet than many other plecos, though they are still omnivores. edit* and I don't mind being tagged

    Plecos holding fins

Sorry to say, but the shape of the body, the spots, the stripe on the face, the patterns on the fins (easier to see in your other thread) are absolutely not those of a bristlenose. Not even close. Those are P. joselimaianus

    Plecos holding fins

Bristlenose? I'm sure those are Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus juveniles. The common name would be gold spot common plecos. They can get up to a foot long, though many I've seen are around 8 inches.

What are these worms on the glass?

Flatworms are a pretty broad group, which include planarians. Planarians make up an order of flatworms that break down into multiple different families. The most common flatworm in aquariums are rhabdocoela flatworms, which have rounded heads as those above do.

    What kind of fish

The green severum has a clear caudal and a stripe rather than a spot. And while some pictures of Vieja maculicauda look similar to the picture above, like this one and this one, it also looks like Oscura heterospila. I'll leave it for you to judge if it is either of these OP.

I would say that it is quite a dark black belt cichlid, Vieja maculicauda

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

My LFS keeps bettas in communities as well in order to avoid cups. They get on great. I have actually heard of males working together too. They were just in a massive tank, so it worked out. Generally not a good idea though.

    Black or natural sand?

Crayfish do tend to eat snails, and while nerites stand a better chance than most, I wouldn't keep them together personally. Also, lobsters are saltwater, if it's in freshwater it is a crayfish.

    Help! Betta dying

The fish doesn't need to bloat up in order for it to be dropsy. That is something that often happens, but I've seen quite a few cases of dropsy where they stay skinny, and sometimes bloat up towards the end. This is definitely dropsy. Improper nutrition and a dirty tank are often some of the...

    Help! Betta dying

He has dropsy as well as fin rot. Unfortunately I would recommend euthanasia, as dropsy is incredibly hard to correct even in the best of cases. This looks to be pretty far along already. Old age shouldn't really be a problem if you've only had him 10 months, unless he was old when you got him...

    Bacter AE

Yes, it is safe for fish. It can actually be beneficial for fish like otos. I've used it in my community and have had no issues.

Got my hands on a true albino oscar.

A lot of people seem to think it is, but most people I've seen are starting to realize that it's quite small for them. As I said, they grow longer than the tank is wide, which I would say makes the tank unsuited for an adult. A 75 gallon would be much preferable as it offers more width for them.

Got my hands on a true albino oscar.

I was going to comment on the black as well. Regardless, it's a beautiful oscar. I'd be interested to see more pics of him once he has grown more. I wouldn't say it's perfect, a 55 gallon is 12 inches wide. Oscars grow longer than the width of the tank.
  35. B

    Little Worms?

Those are rhabdocoela flatworms. Detritus worms would be little hair like worms that wriggle. Either way, they aren't any harm.

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

One of my old friends had a single tank with a sponge filter. Then 4 more without one at all. I think I've seen Byron talk about this as well. The easiest way to do it is with shrimp. But it can be done with fish too. I think they are all hideous. I could never get one. Apparently a lot of...
