    Classification of Coral

Not a fish. They are invertebrates, a type of Cnidarian. Other Cnidarians would be jellyfish, anenomes and the hydra we see in out tanks. So they don't classify as fish. But this would pose the question, could I submit a picture of my pet hydra? I don't pay much attention to these contests, so...

    Identification please

She was correct, false Julii Corydoras are Corydoras trilineatus, like the OPs fish. False julii isn't their real name, they should be called three lined or three striped corydoras.

    Repashy food - opinions?

A few species of Stiphodon as well as Schismatogobius ampluvinculus. I used to have Rhinogobius but not anymore.

    Repashy food - opinions?

Repashy have some excellent foods, some of the best I've fed tbh. Fish go nuts for the stuff, including my gobies.

    Honey Gourami Discoloration

Those aren't honey gouramis, those are thick lipped gouramis. It's natural for that colour variant to go darker over time (particularly the males). They both look male as well, which can end badly.

My new Salt & Pepper Corys arrived!

It makes your statement of "They can live up to 40 years, in the wild. (Or in ideal conditions - rarely in captivity)" less accurate. But that's not the point.

My new Salt & Pepper Corys arrived!

They don't live to 40 years in the wild. There is little information as to the lifespan in the wild, but in many cases fish won't live as long in the wild as in captivity. The oldest Corydoras that Ian Fuller reported seeing in captivity was a 42 years old Corydoras aeneus, but that was an...

    What's your Favourite Tetra?

Yeah, probably group size. I had 10 and they were great. The way the male sparred each morning was most impressive.

    What's your Favourite Tetra?

Congo. Big, pretty and actually have character.

What is this on my BN Pleco?

Usually it'll be as an act of self defense or territorial flaring. My plecos will flare at my Corydoras when if they are getting too picky with the food he is trying to eat. They will also use these spines when combating each other, this thread has an example of this. They can do some damage as...

What is this on my BN Pleco?

Watch the initial video, now watch this Looks exactly the same to me. Only in the case they are infected odontodes and the pleco flaring them in annoyance/pain... Exact same placement, exact same shape. Exact same flaring, I don't see any mysterious tentacle creature

What is this on my BN Pleco?

Eh. Are you sure that movement wasn't the pleco trying to flare it's cheek odontodes?

    New fish!

That is the one downside to them, they are more timid that other bristlenose. I've had my three for maybe 4 or 5 years and I don't see much of them. One of the females hides a little less than the others but she isn't outgoing in the way my albinos are. But for me that just makes a sighting all...

    New fish!

He's a beauty for sure. One of my three is an Orion too! Probably my favourite of the species I keep.

Any idea what this plant is?

Due to the fact that shrimp only tanks don't have predators for populations of copepods, worms, rotifers and such, dwarf bladderwort can be useful. Especially as it shouldn't harm shrimp/shrimplets.
  18. B

Any idea what this plant is?

Dwarf bladderwort. A carnivorous pest plant. I struggled with it a few years back, grows very fast, wraps around other plants and each piece that breaks off can form a whole new plant. Not fun to deal with ime.

Even with just penguins, that's a small tank.

Correct tank size ? + help with penguin tetras

60cm is quite small for a schooling fish that can get well over 2 inches, even up to 3 inches. My old school were quite big.
  21. B

Is my Bristlenose a male or female?

Yes, that's a male. Females can have some bristles around the mouth, but they never up the face like that. Be careful getting another, males will fight quite nastily. And a male and a female will likely breed.

    What type of pleco?

There are multiple different species sold under the common name clown cleco, so some won't look the same. The OPs species would be Panaqolus maccus Flash plecos would look like this:

Is this a worm on my GBR?

That looks to be Dermosporidia, which needs no treatment. It's a type of opisthokont that will eventually rupture and release spores. What I've read about it suggests that it shouldn't infect other healthy fish and those that have it once develop an immunity to it

    ID a young Pleco

Juvenile common bn have the white markings and lose them with age unfortunately. They are still beautiful fish imo, and yours is particularly nice. And they are much better than starlights in how they act. If this was a starlight, the chances are you would never get to see it, they are...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

I would agree that you shouldn't keep them out of water. Completely different to not having a filter, which really isn't needed if you actually know what you are doing. All I need are plants.

Agreed. Underrated? These are all some of the highest rated fish in the hobby! Though depending on the loach I would agree with that one.
  33. B

What kind of pleco is this?

Juvenile bristlenose have the white (sometimes it can look slightly yellow) line on their caudal fin. The line will go away with age and often the spots will fade somewhat too.

Just a young common bristlenose as mentioned.
