    Floor Fish!

Got home from my 10 hr shift at work, and found one of my fish on the floor. I have no idea how long he was out of the water for. I poured a bit of water on him immediately (I honestly thought he was dead, he looked dried out), no response. I went to pick him up with a pair of nets, and he...

    25 Hex Tall Tank Mates

So, I have 25 hex tank, it is about 10" on each side and 21" tall. I would say the footprint is about the same as 15 gallon. My ph is 7.4 and hardness about 110 ppm. Currently in the tank I have 8 pygmy corydoras, some cherry shrimp, and various pond and ramshorn snails (who I feed to my...

With just a few tiger barbs, they can be pretty nervous and nip fins. I would get at least 7, but more is better for tiger barbs. I have 8 in my 90 gallon and they still nip a little. I do think the minimum for the giant danio is a 4 foot tank, as they need lots of length for swimming. Cherry...

Video Playing with a grumpy Blood Parrot

My guy kept swimming into the net at my lfs. They had about a dozen baby blood parrots in with some earth eaters, who I had originally intendedto purchase. The parrots really let the eartheaters feel comfortable enough to come out of hiding. After dumping him out of the net the 5th time, I told...

    Seiryu stones or dragon rock?

I know some species, like peacock gudgeon, would be okay in any tank of at least 18 inches in length. So a 20H would be fine for most groups of gudgeon under 3 in. As far as the rocks go, I really like the texture of the dragon rocks. I have Seiryu stones in a few of my tanks, and they look...

Almost Full Grown Figure 8 Puffer

So, I am setting up a 20 gallon tank for a figure 8 puffer, and I know they need increasingly brackish water as they get older. The puffer will be an adoptee from Petco, someone surrendered about a half dozen to the store. Right now they are all together in about a 10 gallon tank (showing...

    Plant from Petco turning white?

How long ago did you buy it? It looks like a maybe an Asian water fern, related to the Java ferns. The leaves will probably die off, then regrow once the plant adjusts to your water.

    Injured Rainbow Shark

My rainbow shark has been in the 80 gallon tank for going on 3 months now. Day before yesterday I noticed he was hiding, and today I was finally able to spot him. It looks like the other fish have had a go at him. The other inhabitants are 2 fire mouths (not a pair), a blue acara, a rainbow...

    A new tank!

No, none I got from Buceplants had snails or hanger-ons. Some I ordered from ebay did, but I purposely breed pond snails in one of my tanks and just put the ones I saw in there, then did my bleach dip.

    A new tank!

I like jungle vals for my background. I got some that were almost 5 feet long from my lfs. Three plants for $10. It has grown pretty quick too. I purchased some large anubias plants from the Buceplants website. It was three large leaved striped anubias on a short rhizome piece in one pot.

    New to plants

Most plants will melt when placed into a different aquarium, as they adjust to the new parameters. I use flourish and easy green and they keep my water lettuce growing fast.

Can a tank be too big for a fish?

If the betta has a large and heavy tail, the depth could become a problem. One of my bettas is getting old and I hade to out him in a shallow tank, so he can reach the surface. A short finned betta likely wouldn't have a problem.

    Magical Disappearing Cherry Shrimp

I don't know that there are any specific symptoms for copper poisoning. I know that API does have a test kit for it though. A call to your local water provider might give you some answers. You local petstore might offer testing, if they have it in their kits. You can call and ask.

    55 gal stocking ideas

Soft water then, which gives you a lot of options. You could do angels, but it seems like people get mixed results for community tanks with them. For soft water there are so many options. Most tetra, barbs, rasbora, anabantoids, eartheaters, plecos, and catfish would work. Central and South...

    Stocking ideas for 40 gallon

What are the dimensions of the aquarium (LxWxH)? Do you know the ph and gh? I would be worried about the Angel eating the neons. I haven't kept them myself, but other members have had this happen. Angelfish are also very tall, getting 6inches tall and 6 to 8 inches long. They can be aggressive...

    Fish shortage?

My lfs is ordering more fish than ever, and trying some new distributors, and have to get 2 orders a week. Their fish are practically flying out the door. The local Petco's tanks get a bit empty on Tuesdays and Wednesdays ,with deliver on Thursday mornings.

Do you know the ph and gh levels? That will probably be the deciding factor in the range of fish kept, unless you are willing to soften or harden your water (which can be tricky without practice).

Question on changing HOB filter brand

    Fish for 46l tank

Thats about 12 us gallons, I think? Depending on water parameters (gh, ph, etc) and dimensions (l x w x h) a group of ember tetras, maybe with pygmy corydoras.
