    Could a dream come true?

It might not be a perfect fit (the lighting) but it doesn't have to be. Get creative and make it work for you. I mean I hung my two huge lights from projector mounts. Cost me a whole whopping $18 for the pair and a couple zip ties. Make a cheap bracket, suspend your light, whatever you need to...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

I am not sure how many times I would have starved to death if I had to read/listen to their life story...Betsy, I ain't got time to listen to your crap, give me my recipe! I am hungry!

    Can this fish be saved?

This thread is painful. Clove oil, always and forever clove oil. Just do it. Never flush a live fish, what a pitiful way to go, dying in sewage. Clove oil was used back in the day for anesthesia in fish, too much Clove oil will obviously stop normal function and euthanize. How do you think it...

Advice for a easy nice floating plant.

Frogbit and mini water lettuce have lovely long roots. Easy to grow easy to thin out. I kind of like it wild, but you can trim roots if needed.

    I blame TFF

There is still an awful lot of non-essential furniture in that room...why stop at 80 gallons, slap another 150g in the there. Or better yet 180g😍.

The Creepiest Thing Happened to Me This Morning (logical explanation)

Other night I was waiting for laundry to finish. Still had 30 minutes left on the washer. I wanted to go to bed. I ended up snacking on some chips and salsa while watching a show. Well, later that night I had a chat with a fascinating cat (felis catus) who later stole my car and drove it cross...

I just about passed out! HELP... ME

The first 200 is the easy part, they have a place in the grow out. I do not want to overcrowd them. It is everyone that will likely come later this month. I plan to move momma with an inexperienced male for a minute. No guarentee there won't be fry. However, if he fumbles this months brood, then...

Do American cichlids work the same as Africans for aggression control?

I keep a number of South/central American species, often with a number of species to each tank. It is all about space. They don't want to be crowded, they want a territory for themselves. There are many "new world" cichlids that get on fine, there are others that are just big brutes(ie convicts...

    So many fry, send help!

To the day, my bristlenose did it again. Like last months batch, this group is a good 100+. Previous female only ever had about 30-40 at a time. I was able to keep multiple batches, sell as they were ready. I am officially out of room in my grow out. Now what? Anyone have any economical...

    Madagascar ground gecko "Paroedura"

You are correct. I am no heating expert but from what I have picked up from my brother and exotics vet, you'll need warm spots, and cool places so they can balance their temp. The air temp needs a way the stay warm as well, not sure if under heating would be enough to keep it balmy.

    Madagascar ground gecko "Paroedura"

Use damp substrate , peat moss, sphagnum moss, vermiculite, and fine coconut fiber all work really well for this. The hides can be made out of coconut shell halves turned upside down or a plastic container with a cut out. Make sure either way you have a few hides available and on each side of...

Power consumption and what we can do to reduce it

Sometimes these experiences lead to your destiny! My brother was shocked so many times when he was a kid, he went on to train and become a legit electrician. I was mauled(like deep bites, several times, including my face) by a house cat (who ended up having a brain tumor which caused her to go...

A good vid on all that can and will go wrong for reef keepers.

Tiger lotus are nutrient sinks. They are greedy, if you haven't given it a root tab, I would. At times Tiger lotus can also go into a state of dormancy. It will be drawing nutrients back into the bulb from the leaves. Not %100 on what triggers it, but it can last weeks to months. As long as...

    Madagascar ground gecko "Paroedura"

Fine grade coconut fiber. It is easy to spot clean, holds moisture to aid in humidity of environment and no issues with the geckos getting impacted from eating bits of it when foraging bugs. Avoid sands and soils as they can block the GI of your little guy if eaten.

new to the whole fish thing etc

Most people are not lucky enough to have a small LFS, not a chain. One may think this way as all that is really seen from the box stores are the same this and that. When I want something or want to browse I drive an hour to get to my favorite LFS. Sherry always has something different, she'll...

new to the whole fish thing etc

@Rocky998 For someone who has no experience with an aquarium, beginner fish species are best, and yes, they are "cheap". The reason is the fish are hardy, with this being set up for the viewing pleasure of not only the parent, but a child. It is best to go with some pretty hardy, easy keepers...

    Convict aggression

Convicts are well...basically "super max prison" cichlids. Sounds like they are getting ready to spawn, which means you need to get them their own space asap, or they are going to beat the snot out of or kill anything else in the tank. Be prepared for a ton of fry also.

Whats wrong with my blood parrot fish?

That tank is a bit on the small side, with as active as Parrots are and the way they have to maneuver to eat, he could have very well injured himself on anything in the tank. Edit to add: I would be suspicious of HITH (hole in the head) they can become large, red sores. "Bad" bacteria in water...

How would one go about this...? (Pond inside a rowboat)

As far as stability I would dig into the ground to nest the hull of the boat. A pond sealer should work on the inside I would suspect. I'll have to call my mom to find out what they used to patch a hole a deer put in their liner. Very cool Idea.

    pond goldfish with tumors

Tumors, in any animal, are generally not contagious. Now some growths can be caused by a virus/parasite/bacteria and are contagious. With what I can see of the spots in question, papillomas come to mind. There is a herpes virus they can get, just not sure what is really done about it or for it.

The Wet Spot just added something I HATE!

We were able to fuel up for $3.77 last week, I was like no way, we filled everything up and topped off the containers for the mower and such. It is back up to $4 and I am sure will get much worse especially around Memorial Day as that officially kicks off summer.

    Didnt really think it through

There are other solutions. 1) Net out the fry, or trap the mother in a breed box before she has them. Move fry to a secondary grow out tank, raise, and sell them. 2)Remove Females: Even without a male live-bearer's will still have fry as they store sperm from the males they encounter for a...

    Live bloodworms??

  35. SomethingsFishy24

    Didnt really think it through

He would like the information to make the best informed choice for your tank and your wants/needs. It might seem arbitrary, it is anything but. Given the stock you have and the needs of those particular fish, an Angel, like you want will not likely work because 1)tank size 2) water parameters 3)...
  36. SomethingsFishy24

    Controversial stocking?

I think fish who grow up together tend to leave each other alone(ie Sevs/angels with small fish species). My father-in-law has kept Angels and Neons together forever, they were always raised together. Now try to add a full on adult fish to that tank and the neons would probably be toast, plus...

SomethingsFishy24 - April 2022 Fish of the Month Winner (Cichlids)

Thank you everyone! It truly means a lot! There were a lot of beautiful and unique entries, didn't think my "baby fish" would be much compared to some of those mature fish in full color. Thank you all again, this made my day!🥰

The Wet Spot just added something I HATE!

I agree with BN and Sterbai cories, they are neat and you can't keep up with their spawns at times.. Even dark gold albino BN will sell well, plus any long tail variations.

    Surprise visitor to the feeders.

Apparently, and the first human case was reported in China in the last 24 hours. They are recommending to remove feeders until end of May. Songbirds are not high risk of transmission to other songbirds, but yard chickens.
  40. SomethingsFishy24

    Surprise visitor to the feeders.

Illinois has put up a request to remove feeders. Songbirds and waterfowl are not as affected as raptors, and poultry has the highest rate of disease. This sucks, I might have to pull them until it blows over.
