    My black mollies are sick

Hi, I’m new to the hobby so will allow more experienced molly knowledgeable members who have helped me such as @Colin_T @speakerman3 to respond more affirmatively, but from what I do know, nitrates at 100 is damagingly high for mollies. Have you done any large water changes since you reduced...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Thank you for all the suggestions. Yes those are available so I will look them up online now. I appreciate you taking the time to help. I need to look into the right mix for the water hardness too. It’s not easy - this particular fish is called Buster and belongs to my 4 year old :(

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Thank you for all this.. a lot to digest and think about then. It is frustrating that the LFS recommended this combination to me, but then they are also the people who told me to put fish into my new tank after 48 hours (they all unsurprisingly died and were my young children’s first ever family...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Eek right thank you. Honestly thank you - I have learnt so much from this forum. I hate that I am still learning and it’s affecting the fish :( So I need to look into adding minerals to the water from what I can see via Google. @Byron is there a better way to go about that or anything to avoid...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Ok thank you. I can see the logic in that. The spots are just the algae on the glass. The fin is the only visible issue. I am just so keen to fix it. I’ll make it a priority to find the parameters. Thanks for taking the time to help.

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Here is a slightly better photo. NB! They are NOT white spots on him, that is flecks of algae on the glass. It is the fin that is the noticeable issue, normally a huge proud black fin He was uncharacteristically having an aggressive minute with a female molly earlier too they were attacking each...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Thanks for all the advice. Perhaps the filter is too sludgy? I will do more regular swilling of the sponges in a bucket of tap water as I’ve been avoiding unsettling the growing bacteria. I suction the poop most days. I used to feed twice a day but reduced to once after learning on here that...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

I have a better photo I have taken a better look at him today as he was raising his fin. It has definitely begun to rot away :( in its place there is a bit of the grey cobwebby stuff. His fin was fine a week or two ago. The flashing has been happening for several weeks. How do I treat this? Im...

I don’t have a separate tank unfortunately. Yes he eats and chases the females. I will look into what saprolegnia could be thank you.

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

The tap water tests at zero nitrates. I’ve been trying to keep the nitrates below 10 which has meant having to do about 40% water changes 2 sometimes 3 times a week so I’ve added some more plants recently to try and keep them lower naturally as it’s a lot keeping up with the amount of water...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Hi, thank you for replying. Ammonia and nitrate and 0 and nitrate is getting towards 20 so I am in the middle of doing a 70% water change (I’ve had a mini cycle in the last week as a secondary filter in the tank stopped working so the main one has had to build up its work I think - I kept...

    New symptoms poorly molly:(

Hello I’ve mentioned before that I have a black molly who has been flashing on the substrate a lot. This has been going on for a couple of months and I have treated for ich and also flukes and worms, though am now at the point where I’m very conscious of adding any more incorrect meds. The water...

Diagnosis? TW photo of dying guppy

It was like that when I got him so maybe he’s been ill since I’ve had him :( the tank cycled before his arrival and I do water changes usually 40% twice a week and test pretty much daily. Thank you for your reply.

Diagnosis? TW photo of dying guppy

Hello Can anyone visually identify what is wrong with this guppy? I’ve had 5 guppies die now over a number of weeks, no apparent symptoms. The others died suddenly (lethargy over 24-48hrs then dead) though this one has been at the surface for a couple of weeks more and more (plenty of aeration...

Fish deaths - TW photo of dead fish

I don’t understand what is happening to my fish :( just as everything seemed very stable and they were all doing well, I’ve had unexplained deaths and a persistently flashing molly. Tank set up in early September, went through mini cycle as used filter from old tank which I’d had a few months...

    Flashing and lesion? on molly

I’ve had my 240l for about 3 months now, it cycled quickly due to moving filter media and rocks from the previous tank. I’ve worked hard to keep the substrate and water condition in great shape with regular large water changes and sand cleaning, and my API test readings are always good, nitrates...
