Getting CO2 this week! Journal of tank's evolution

This journals has focused on plants and the addition of CO2 to the setup. Time to introduce my rainbowfish. I have three varieties. Here is one of my Melanotaenia Boesemani “Aves Creek” males: The most colorful Melanotaenia Parva male: One of my Melanotaenia Maccullochi "Stark River" males:

No, the tank is not near a window. I will clean the tank tomorrow and will monitor the algae situation. It is not too bad now.

I got the last batch of plants today. It includes Alternanthera Reineckii "Mini" as a middle-ground plant. I will also try to develop a carpet with dwarf baby tears (Hemianthus Callitrichoides). Here is the final configuration of the aquascape with the new plants: Second day of CO2...

Getting CO2 this week! Journal of tank's evolution

I will not adopt two light periods then. and will go back to the original schedule (slow sunrise from 2 to 3 pm, 100% of lights from 3 pm to 9 pm, sunset from 9 to 10 pm). Yes, the inline diffuser is not dissipating the bubbles. I came home too late to make a video. I have ordered an inline CO2...

Getting CO2 this week! Journal of tank's evolution

First day of CO2 injection and I decided to make a major change. There is one thing I did not like: micro bubbles all over the tank. It might be only me, but it spoils my enjoyment of the tank. So here is the solution I will be adopting: I will have the lights at 100% power from 8:00 AM from...

That makes sense. It worked today with that bubble speed. I will keep monitoring. And yes, I am using the 4dhk solution. Thanks for all the feedback.

The system is up and running: The inline diffuser has been attached to the Eheim canister's tubing: Here is a video of the bubble counter. Does this speed look good?

I thought that the benefits of CO2 injection for aquarium plants were well established. It does not mean that you can't grow beautiful plants without CO2, but it is supposed to mean that they grow faster and with stronger and more vibrant colors with CO2. Will see how the tank evolves.

I got a powerhead for the sponge filter. I will direct its flow parallel to the surface to create some water movement and prevent the formation of biofilms. In terms of the canister's spraybar, the design I have does not allow me to place it near the bottom, facing up. It has to be near the...

Getting CO2 this week! Journal of tank's evolution

Yes, that is a sponge filter. Thank you for calling my attention to its relation to CO2. I am a big fan of sponge filters. Having one running in the main tank means that you always have a seeded filter if you need to set up a hospital tank or a quarantine tank. Also, since I live in hurricane...

Getting CO2 this week! Journal of tank's evolution

As usual, CO2 is introduced to promote plant growth and coloration. Some of the plants in the tank will not develop to their potential without CO2. For example, the more colorful ones (Alternanthera Reineckii, Ludwigia Repens, Nasea Golden, Rotala Macrandra, and Rotala Wallichi) will fade away...

So I got a few plants at my LFS today and moved some plants around. Here is the current configuration: Besides the Alternanthera Reineckii, I also got the Nasea Pedicellata Golden. Beautiful plant. I also got the Rotala Macrandra "narrow leaf." It is not yet in good condition, but...

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I went to my LFS today and they had the Alternanthera Reineckii so I got a bunch :-) Here is the pic. It is still small and not fully colored, but hopefully with CO2 (arrives Wednesday) and ferts it will thrive. I will look at the suggested Ludwigias. I...

Thank for the identification. It looks very different from the other repens in the tank. I must have another variety of Ludwigia. The plant is looking better everyday, getting more and more red. Here is how it is looking today.
