    Today's a new day.

You could totally do that but unless I’m messing something up with the math this tank is ≈33 gallons? Seems like you have room for some bigger fish if you wanted.

What are good peaceful nano fish to keep with platys?

As I re-evaluate what exactly I want for my tank, I’ve realized that I’d like to lose the middle-sized fish I currently have (zebra danios and white clouds), in exchange for peaceful, <1 inch fish that will interact with the landscape and won’t harm the platy fry. I would also have Cherry...

Part of my shrimp or a parasite?

I haven’t seen any unusual behavior; that said, I did lose a shrimp a few days ago, but didn’t think to check for whatever this is because I hadn’t noticed it yet. I’m generally confused, because I bought 8 shrimp about a month ago, and I hadn’t been paying attention to how many there were...

Part of my shrimp or a parasite?

My rili shrimp has these white “eyelashes” on it that I don’t remember seeing before and it’s kinda freaking me out. They writhe like fingers every now and then in a way that makes me really uncomfortable. They’re only on this specific spot. One of my other shrimp has a few of them in the same...

    10 gallon stocking

Otos need a layer of biofilm/algae on the decorations as this is their food source. Since new tanks can take 3-4 months to develop this, I would definitely get the pea-puffers first, and add the otos a few at a time once there's sufficient algae for them. Otos *can* be fed algae wafers, but...

Will neocaridina shrimp eat live aquarium plants?

I’ve definitely seen my shrimp nibble on plants/other objects (especially Java moss) but I’ve never noticed any damage to the plants.

    A Beginner's 20g Long Aquarium (Platys + Pygmy Corys)

Nothing like a good cleaning and rescaping to refresh enthusiasm! I was feeling a bit dissatisfied with the tank and unsure where to go from here, but on Sunday I went to clean it and ended up rearranging the landscape in the process, and now I feel much more sure about what I want for the tank...

PLEASE tell me these are fry not some kind of insect larvae 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Really? I had a little dude that looked just like this in my tank for a while, and he eventually turned into this crazy leggy thing with a two-pronged tail. I always expect that one of the fish must have killed him by now, but then every few months I'll spot him still crawling around. Maybe I...

Why aren't there any freshwater cnidarians/echinoderms?

I wonder if there's some specific reason that body plan doesn't work as well in freshwater. Maybe freshwater environments tend not to have as much plankton for sessile filter feeders to eat? I also imagine maybe the calcium that corals build their structures out of is more easily procurable in...

    Do you have Cherry Shrimp?

I've had my shrimp for about 2/3 months, and the females have always had big visible saddles but I've never seen them reproduce. I've got about 10 currently, and I don't really know how to identify males other than "the one's without saddles" but I feel like there has to be some males in there...

Why aren't there any freshwater cnidarians/echinoderms?

I've always been low-key jealous you can't have corals in a freshwater tank. I know hydras are a cnidarian species, so my question is why there aren't any macroscopic cnidarians? Corals? Anemones? Jellyfish? I can see with corals it could have something to do with the minerals they make their...

Aquascaper 1200 - Hypsophrys Nicaraguensis tank

This sounds like a really fascinating plan! I don't know a ton about cichlids (although you seem to and they sound really cool), but I had always wondered what the biotope that livebearers come from is like, since you don't see a ton of other Central American fish. The hardscape is looking...

    My tanks

What are the sizes of the tanks in order? Also, how do you get so much moss/algae to grow on the decorations? I really love the mossy look, but I haven't been able to grow much algae in my own aquarium aside from diatoms.

    My tanks

Those Mbuna's are gorgeous. When I found the hobby, I originally gravitated towards small, planted community tanks, but the more I see your mbuna tank the more I think I would love to have a tank like that someday.

This is Susan. She is a female painted platy, but her color is much more yellow than the others I have. She looks very pretty in the light. I don't know if I can beat stingrays and goodeids, but I had a gorgeous picture so I figured I'd share.

Yes! They're just shromping :D I love the way they swim too. They look like little helicopters; they use the tiny legs on the tail to hover around and then they rotate themselves to land with their main legs. Whenever I see one cruising around I want to make motor noises.

    Double Date!

I couldn't get all four to focus very well. The oto and rose-colored shrimp were chilling face-to-face, with a rili shrimp in the background, and then while I was taking a photo of those two the cory showed up in the front of the rili shrimp and made it even more perfect! But then the shrimp...

I'm feeling discouraged about my pygmy cories.

Hi, I just found these new replies! I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about the situation now. I was worked up when I wrote last, and was more confrontational than I should've been. I'm sorry, but I'm glad to see the wholesome discussion of the topic, especially since it gives me a wall-of-text...

I'm feeling discouraged about my pygmy cories.

How do people do a tank with two different substrates? It seems like they would get mixed when I clean. I did read the seriouslyfish page. I gather that they need driftwood and rocks, can have a sand or gravel substrate, are peaceful, can climb the glass, and need oxygenated water. Seems like...
