    Last Film You Saw Thread

Watched "The Exorcist" for the third time the other night. Not NEARLY as bad as I thought after all the years of hearing about it. Actually rather well made and acted.

    The Baby Java Fern Thread

HI all! I did a search here, and noticed a lot of people ask the same question about their Java Ferns: WHAT ARE THE LITTLE LEAVES GROWING ON MY JAVA FERN? ... or... WHAT ARE THE SPOTS ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FERN'S LEAVES? I thought perhaps a catch-all thread about Java reproduction would be...

Where do you get your wood and rocks?

Here in Massachusetts there are supposed to be laws forbidding mineral collection on state land, or if a town says so on their land. It really is amazingly stupid in some instances, as we're not a popular location for mineral collecting anymore (though supposedly, historically we had/have many...

Anyone have experience with Cardinal Plants?

HI folks I was browsing the various aquatic plant seller websites and was surprised to see Cardinal Flower (lobelia) listed for sale as an aquarium plant. (I have tried to grow the garden variety for a few years now, with limited results) Does anyone know if the two varieties are actually the...

Black spots on the underside of Jave Fern leaves

I know this is an old topic, but I am learning as well, and want to share that my very first Java fern also had those spots and YES baby ferns grew out of some of them, UNDER the leaf. Others grew at the leaf ends as well, as mentioned here.

Where do you get your wood and rocks?

I just ran into this topic, and as a semi-beginner rockhound and new fish owner, I was curious about rocks in aquariums myself. Now, I can be wrong, but it seems to me some of the locations people are picking up rocks may not be the best idea. I have many basic specimens from local forests...

Can an old air pump make water DIRTIER?

OK kids, here's the deal... LONG STORY SHORT, after reading reviews about the brand valve I have, I took a toothpick and slid it through the middle of the rubber thingy inside, and PRESTO!!! I have bubbles! TOO MANY bubbles, actually, so I remembered I had picked up a control valve as well...

    What are you doing today?

Makes sense... I forget people tend to have smaller birds than we used to have. Until Mom died 2 years ago, we would have a LARGE bird, so I always assume everyone has a massive bird as well. We also NEVER went frozen, but ordered one from a local farm "stand". I guess I was spoiled! I...

Can an old air pump make water DIRTIER?

OK, so I put a tube from the pump directly into the vase, and was getting LOTS of bubbles. THEN I put the check valve back and now the bubbles are super weak! I know I have the valve going the right way because when I tried turning it around, no air came out. Do check valves cut down on the...

    Java fern roots growing where?

Forgive me, as I am new at aquatic plants, but I sure know OUTDOOR plants... isn't it perfectly normal for ANY plant to cycle through older leaves? Removing the old stimulates new growth. Can't the brown leaves in the photo simply be old and need to be pruned?

    What are you doing today?

Today was the LAST DAY of MANY spent moving boxes and boxes of vintage auto parts I inherited out of a house that was sold WAY before we planned. I fully expect to end up with either a cold or lung infection from breathing in all the dust and mouse poo.

    Greetings and salutations!

oh MAN I was a little kid! All I remember is the tank was in the dining room, it had an old fashion canister filter (which I was shocked to learn are out of favor and very hard to find now!) that made bubbles, and Mom would change the water. The goldfish were the types I always thought were...

Can an old air pump make water DIRTIER?

For the record, there are no fish in that glass vase. It is just an old vase that I have spare plants in. Sounds like that old pump isn't worth keeping. Maybe for fun I'll open it up and see what it looks like in there. If I break something, so be it!

    Greetings and salutations!

(I thought that would sound a little different than just "HI!") Unless you count the goldfish we had when I was a kid, I bought my first fish in August 2023, a white female Betta. In November, I bought what I thought was a baby MALE betta, but is now starting to look like a female! I don't...

Can an old air pump make water DIRTIER?

HI folks, first post! I am new at fish-keeping (unless you count the goldfish we had when I was in elementary school). I have two betta fish, an adult female and a juvenile that is SUPPOSED to be a male but we now think is female. Both are in their own smallish unfiltered tanks, due to a lack...
