OH! I thought they all hatched at once!

OK folks, I have an UPDATE: there are indeed baby shrimps swimming around Test Tank #1! And they are all different sizes! There are at least 3 about 1/4" and today I spotted a couple about 1/8"! There are also all these little pin-prick size things swimming around, which I HOPE are also...

That's another thing I don't understand. How come some days you can't even FIND a shrimp, other days they are all wandering around, eating or whatever?

Yeah I know that. I started with what I think is a red rilli. Then the rest are culls I bought to learn, then I bought two good blue and one yellow. The cull seller was nice enough to send along two (to me) nice red ones as well. So there's a mix. I find them all interesting! ;-)

INCIDENTLY, funny thing you should say that... the shrimp that was playing dead is now "with child"!!!

Interesting info. Thing is, the tank in question is in an upstairs room that only gets totally dark at night. As the sun comes out, the entire room brightens up. So daylight has appeared well before I ever get in there to turn on the lamp. So the shrimpies already have a chance to see light...

HI folks - I am new to shrimp and would like to know if they ever play dead?? This morning when I turned on the light for one of my plant-test-tanks, my one large blue shrimp was floating on its side on the surface of the water, motionless. I was disappointed because I always wanted a blue...

One of the two large red ones was actually sitting still and in sight, so I tried to get a photo of it: They both basically look the same BUT they don't look as solid-red in the pics. The one Malok posted is a higher quality one and it is more obvious that the egg-area would be more opaque.

The MOTHER is? Or the babies are?

Not to hijack this thread, but I am new at shrimp (with shrimp?) and read that eggs won't show through the shell of some red ones... is this true?

Hmmmmm... if I read all of that correctly, plants that can exist partially out of water may act seasonal, in a way, and flower, because it isn't submerged? Purely "underwater" ones do NOT. Did I get that right? GaryE - fish have seasonal changes even if they don't get frozen into lakes and...

Coming from outdoor gardening, I am curious if aquarium plants tend to have "seasons". This may be an absolutely SILLY question, but I can't help but wonder, especially when I see a plant have new growth when nothing in the tank has changed!
