Don't know if this helps, but I found out today that shrimp supposedly breed more in cooler water. BUT I have some in two different tanks, and the one WITH the heater has lots of babies. The shrimp in the cooler tank don't seem to breed.

So I just got home and took a peek at the tank. All those floaties are GONE! Did the filter do its job with just a bit more air?? There has to be more to this... Good thing I grabbed a super quick video before I left this morning!

Test Tank #1: BABY SHRIMP!! Seeing a BUNCH of tiny shrimp in different shades of blue and clear/black.

Picked up a small filter media bag this morning, just to see if it can be used with the filter. It didn't cost much so if it doesn't work out, no biggie. I still think a pre-filter small enough to keep baby shrimp out would block all the floaty shmoo I want to get filtered!

Since you asked, esthetically, I'd remove one of the rocks. BUT that's just me.

So far, it seems the winner is NO, a plant-only tank doesn't need to cycle. BUT, won't my plants melt being in different water? I figured using some water from the tanks they are in now would cut down on stress. I have some nice ones that I really can't afford to replace right now.

My 4 little tanks all have various sponge/foam filters in them. I recently picked up the Aqueon X-Small QuietFlow E Internal Power Filter, since it was small and didn't cost too much. Of course, now I see product reviews are mixed... People on small budgets should NOT have so many hobbies...

I have read that a new plant-only tank needs to be cycled like any other. Is the process just as important to plants as fish/shrimp? Due to space and electrical outlet restraints, I can't just plug in a new tank somewhere and wait like "normal people" can. BUT I also don't want to loose...
