    Cherry shrimps not multiplying?

Don't know if this helps, but I found out today that shrimp supposedly breed more in cooler water. BUT I have some in two different tanks, and the one WITH the heater has lots of babies. The shrimp in the cooler tank don't seem to breed.

What's this floaty stuff that looks like dust or fibers?

So I just got home and took a peek at the tank. All those floaties are GONE! Did the filter do its job with just a bit more air?? There has to be more to this... Good thing I grabbed a super quick video before I left this morning!

What's this floaty stuff that looks like dust or fibers?

HI all Lately I have had this mystery-stuff floating all through Plant Test Tank #1. It looks like very small uniform fibers, like from velvet, or even dust of some kind. It does not collect on the surface, it circulates all around the tank with the current. Yesterday I cleaned the sponge...

    Tanks... You're Welcome! (Jonelle's Journal)

Today I visited a shop in NH and saw some small Fluval tanks set up with plants and bettas. I wasn't aware they have different versions of the 2.6 gallon kits. When I came home I looked at the Fluval website, and ALMOST clicked the BUY button for one of the shrimp tanks. I KNOW I want to...

Do New Plant Only Tanks Also Need Cycling?

Once again, the Big Wide Impersonal World of the 'Net causes someone to not understand me, what I say, or what I do. Its been happening since 1999!!! :dunno: I simply like to gather as much data as possible. That's all.

    Is this hardscape too much?

Again, just one person's opinion, but to answer your question the one I circled sort of "busies up" the look. Should look more naturally random, if that makes sense.

Test Tank #1: BABY SHRIMP!! Seeing a BUNCH of tiny shrimp in different shades of blue and clear/black.

Is this filter's intake too large for a shrimp tank?

Picked up a small filter media bag this morning, just to see if it can be used with the filter. It didn't cost much so if it doesn't work out, no biggie. I still think a pre-filter small enough to keep baby shrimp out would block all the floaty shmoo I want to get filtered!

    Is this hardscape too much?

Since you asked, esthetically, I'd remove one of the rocks. BUT that's just me.

Do New Plant Only Tanks Also Need Cycling?

My plan is/was to move some of my favorite plants into a plant only tank of some kind so that they don't get nibbled or uprooted, and I can add whatever I need to the water without worrying about fish or shrimp. But the more I think about it and look into tanks and required equipment, I am...

Do New Plant Only Tanks Also Need Cycling?

So far, it seems the winner is NO, a plant-only tank doesn't need to cycle. BUT, won't my plants melt being in different water? I figured using some water from the tanks they are in now would cut down on stress. I have some nice ones that I really can't afford to replace right now.

Gravel Shmoo... keep it, or remove it?

As stated in my post TWO LAYERS. The one you think is a third is the shmoo! ;-)

Is this filter's intake too large for a shrimp tank?

Thought of that... I can finagle something like that, BUT won't it keep out the debris I want to filter out?

Is this filter's intake too large for a shrimp tank?

My 4 little tanks all have various sponge/foam filters in them. I recently picked up the Aqueon X-Small QuietFlow E Internal Power Filter, since it was small and didn't cost too much. Of course, now I see product reviews are mixed... People on small budgets should NOT have so many hobbies...

Do New Plant Only Tanks Also Need Cycling?

I have read that a new plant-only tank needs to be cycled like any other. Is the process just as important to plants as fish/shrimp? Due to space and electrical outlet restraints, I can't just plug in a new tank somewhere and wait like "normal people" can. BUT I also don't want to loose...

Gravel Shmoo... keep it, or remove it?

Another newbie question: GRAVEL SHMOO. Keep it there, or somehow remove it? In Feb 2024, I added a layer of standard Seachem flourite under a layer of gravel to Plant Test Tank #1. I haven't touched the substrate since. NOW the substrate looks NASTY underneath. But I get confused...

    Tanks... You're Welcome! (Jonelle's Journal)

TANK #1 – Betsy is doing fine, I swear she's STILL growing! Replaced the Aqua Top foam filter with a small Top Fin I found. I hadn't seen one before, and liked that it has a weighted bottom. So far so good. No melt yet with her Amazon Sword. She really could use a new tank, since the acrylic...

    Seachem Fluorite STILL not clean!

UPDATE: I decided I (might) want to change a tank's substrate to black, so because it is summer and I can use the garden hose, I picked up another bag of Flourite. This time, their BLACK stuff, not the standard red-brown that I had so much trouble with before. The guy at the fish shop even...

    Tanks... You're Welcome! (Jonelle's Journal)

TANK #1 - Speedy the Snail IS INDEED still alive. It showed up a couple of days later. I read that nerites do sometimes bury themselves in substrate. Mine seems a bit large for a snail to burrow into! Betsy the betta has finally discovered Bubble Surfing her filter. She also has a new plant...

TANK #2: I don't see Speedy the Snail anywhere!! He/she's been in there almost a year and I sure hope it's still alive... Maybe just REALLY hidden? It isn't that big a tank!!

    Tanks... You're Welcome! (Jonelle's Journal)

Not sure why, but for some reason or another two of my older bucephalandra are GROWING! I think one major reason is the presence of a snail to remove the algae that was trying to take over, robbing them of light. Below is the one that has perked up the most! Thing is, I don't remember which...
