    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

I found out via a Facebook post addressed to our customers that once we close tomorrow that we will be staying closed for the foreseeable future. Didn't hear anything from management for another 5 hours after they told the customers. The BHS (British Horse Society) last night told all its...

I imagine all non essential shops will also be told to close soon which means that will be me done. I think I need to stock up on embroidery threads so I can keep myself busy. Keep in touch with people who will be isolated by this. A phone call can make all the difference. I'd managed to get my...

At the moment Liquifry No1 but they'll be moving onto baby brine shrimp imminently. It doesn't show up in the photos but they have developed tiny tail fins.

I'm fortunate that since I moved back home I was able to put most of the money from selling my car into a savings account and for the first time I'm grateful I have had to deal with the DWP to get carers allowance because at least that will be a little bit of money in and some is better than...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

Haven't spoken to anyone yet but I had some interest from a few shops when I was buying bits and pieces. It also depends on how many of them there are. I want a couple of females for myself so got to wait and see what sexes they are, if they're all male then they're all going.

Fry are 2 weeks old now and growing well. Looking more like miniature fish rather than just eyes and belly though they're still mostly eyes.

Which anti fungal medication did you buy? If it's the love fish brand you need to be very careful with it because if you overdose with it it will kill your fish.

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

There's definitely at least 2 fry still alive as they were both at the front of the tank this morning. I can now see tiny little pectoral fins on them and when one rested on the biscuit cutter it looked like the first hints of colour were starting to appear. I'm really hoping at least one, if...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

This is the one fry that I can definitely find, likes to hang out near the front of the tank which makes it a bit easier. Looks more like a miniature fish now. You might have to squint a bit. The whitish cloud to the front of the photo is Liquifry No1 food.

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

The International Betta Congress site and another one which was more of a blog were the only two that I could find decent breeding information one. The former recommended subdued lighting and the latter said they used a Styrofoam cup cut in half to provide shade for the eggs and a place for the...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

The fry are a week old tomorrow. I'm not sure how many are actually still alive because once I removed Big Daddy I lowered the water level so it's just touching the top of the plants which means with how thick the floating Salvinia is it's very hard to see in the tank now. I definitely still...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

That's what I found. I think they may be similar to Angel Fish in that if they're captive bred and artificially raised it takes them a few goes to work out what to do. The male I've been using definitely destroyed the first nest in the breeding tank and was probably responsible for a few of the...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

They're stunning little fish, I really like them. Tell me about it, if it wasn't for the fact it's a good 2 hour drive depending on how bad the motorways are I would pop down to visit the actual shop because they were also advertising quite a few wild Betta species including Betta Persephone...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

Mate I'm jealous, I really wanted Betta Hendra. Doesn't help I just found a shop in Birmingham that will deliver for £20 and is selling Betta Hendra at £16 a pair. They're top of the list for when I get my own bigger place and can set up a proper fish room.

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

It's either 6.6 or 6.4 in that tank, I know it's one or the other but I can't remember which. Which ones are you breeding? I was originally after Betta Hendra when I first decided to get wild Bettas but the only ones I could find in the UK were £140 per pair plus postage whereas I got my group...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

The fry are now 4 days older and free swimming. I've moved Big Daddy out as he'd moved away from the nest area to the front of the tank so I think he'd reached the end of how much caring he was going to give. He's looking a little bit stressed at the minute but he'll settle back in soon...

    Members favorite animals

Horses and dogs for me are tied equally. I would love my own horse at some point but the keeping costs are way too high at the moment, when I think of what my former liveries spent a year on their horses I can hear my bank account crying at the thought. I have a list of dog breeds I want to...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

The fry are now 3 days old and becoming more active. I can see them wriggling and starting to swim a little bit around the nest site. Big Daddy is still being a good father and putting them back in the nest if they drop too far. He's also going hunting through the plants and the bottom of the...

    Light and fry

If they survive. I'm not getting my hopes up yet because its the first time they've hatched but I'm very happy that they've finally hatched a batch since it confirms I have at least 2 fertile fish. Plus it also means Big Daddy's parenting instincts have kicked in so hopefully no more destroyed...

    Light and fry

I've decided to leave the light on and just covered the other tank in the room with a towel so they're not too disturbed but the male has a chance of spotting the fry because he's already working hard enough as it is.

    Light and fry

I put a terrible one on the main thread about them, I'm trying not to disturb them whilst also watching avidly. As for photos of the fry, they are tiny! They're literally an egg with a bit of a tail poking out at the minute. I thought they were daphnia at first until I watched one fall out of...

    Light and fry

My Betta Coccina pair have spawned and the eggs have hatched. As they're wriggling they're dropping out of the nest and the male is gathering them back up as he spots them. Am I best leaving the tank light on so he can see them as they fall and catch them or turning it off to give them a natural...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

Photo of Big Daddy with his nest. I mentioned in a previous post about how he's changed his nest from spawning to spawning so a little note to follow on from that. The initial nest for this spawning was actually built in the biscuit cutter I'm using to keep a feeding hole clear. It was a large...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

I think I might have to eat my words. I think there are eggs that have hatched. I've just fed the tank and noticed Big Daddy still by the nest then one of the eggs suddenly started moving and dropped out of the nest, only to be caught and put back in. I'm going to try netting Split Fin again...

    Betta Coccina Breeding Tank

So I had another spawning over the weekend. Split Fin wasn't cooperative about leaving the tank again so she ended up staying in and where Big Daddy had built the nest meant I couldn't get the net in underneath it. However I don't know if Split Fin staying in the tank meant his guarding...

Where to find betta rescues or breeders

Betta Splendens is the Betta you see most commonly in shops with the big fancy fins. Non Splendens are any of the other species i.e Betta Imbellis, Betta Coccina or Betta Channoides for a few examples. They are also referred to as wild Bettas and can be bubble nesters like the Splendens or mouth...
