Yup, I have at least one thread with my tanks in it. I do need to update it as I’ve changed most of them around in the last month or two….so I’ll do that soon

Vote Now! October 2021 Fish of the Month Contest (Bettas)

This is my newest and most fancy addition to my fishy friends. Bernie. I only recently got him on a trip to Petco for dog food. He is technically my girlfriend’s fish, but I am responsible for feeding and tank maintenance. She picked him out and named him, I got to keep the 10 gallon tank...

Not critical, only on the fish, the plants, the mix of the fish and plants, the size of the tank (a 300 gallon), and let’s not forget the substrate. Good grief.

The size of the river plays into everything going on in its ability to maintain the type of diversity it can sustain. I am merely trying to get y’all to accept the tank for what it is. The owners best attempt at making his/her own slice of whatever river they wanted to see. Far too often on this...

Aren’t all our tanks just a fantasy? The dolphins in the river example were to show just how big that river is.

Somebody who actually did a true Amazon aquarium.

I am stating that a river as large as the Amazon and it tributaries would have an amazing amount of biodiversity and symbiotic relationships that would probably mirror those found on/in coral reef type situations. You don’t think there would be fish that clean other fish? Or fish that hunt...
  15. FishNturt808

Somebody who actually did a true Amazon aquarium.

There are actual dolphins that live in that river. So to say it’s completely different from the ocean isn’t quite accurate.
  16. FishNturt808

Somebody who actually did a true Amazon aquarium.

Just my opinion, but don’t forget how large the Amazon actually is. The amount of biodiversity in that river would have to be much larger than any river we would be familiar with.

I think we come up on that all too often. Unfortunately for those of us that would love to do a biotope specific to a certain area, finding those fish that actually fit is sometimes much much more difficult if not impossible due to the limitations we face trying to find species that fit due to...

Fish intermingle with other species on a very regular basis. I see it all the time. Eels working with fish, fish working with octopus, sharks, turtle, rays all going to specific spots on the reefs to have a fish clean them. Happens all the time

See, here I question your knowledge of natural ecosystems. Living in a place (albeit very far and different from the Amazon) where I can see natural ecosystems firsthand on a daily basis I think you would be very surprised at nature’s ability to mix all those things you said were not ‘natural’

Can I ask what makes you say there’s no place in the Amazon that would look like that? My only assumption is the clearness of the water.

Beautiful Flowerhorn. I don’t think mine has the genetics to grow a kok like yours. But it’s a fun, beautiful fish nonetheless.

Look what showed up at my door step 😀😀

If it’s the same as the hygger I had it should do the 24 hour cycle. I forget exactly how to do it. But if I remember right, you hold down the light and settings buttons at the same time to get to the menu you need. It’s a 7 or 8 time slot cycle. With spots 7 and 8 being the night/blue light spaces.
  23. FishNturt808

Look what showed up at my door step 😀😀

The 24 hour function on those lights goes from daylight to blue, then will gradually dim that blue out. If you want to see the colors change for sunset/sunrise unfortunately that light does not do that. I had one and changed it out for a fluval aquasky for that reason.

    Drift wood

Being on an island, I also collect wood from the beach. There have been a few pieces of spider wood that I’ve bought from the store. But, the price of that vs just taking a stroll on the local beach, ocean driftwood usually wins. If the piece is small enough I’ll boil it before putting it in my...

    Cichlid tank bottom feeders?

I will agree Corys with the mix that the op has is probably not a good idea. As the corys are quite small and would probably end up a meal. Which is why I lean more towards a bristlenose.
  26. FishNturt808

    Cichlid tank bottom feeders?

For me it was get a separate tank, or rehome the trouble makers. Everyone is different and has different experience. As well as every fish has a different temperament. Most New world cichlids focus their aggressive behavior towards their cichlid tank mates, in my experience. Of course if you get...

    Cichlid tank bottom feeders?

as with most aggressive/territorial fish, always have a plan b in case of them not getting along. I was just telling op what I have successfully kept with my new world cichlids.

    Cichlid tank bottom feeders?

I have cory’s in with my blood parrot, as well as a clown pleco. Bristlenose with my firemouth, and polar blue in one tank, as well as a bristlenose with a male polar blue and juvi texas in another tank, an a bristlenose with my German blue ram. Oh, and a sailfin pleco with my flowerhorn. So...

    Rummies and Betta

Beautiful looking tank tho. The fish will just out grow it. Wanting more space to swim. I think something like the harlequin rasbora stays small enough for a 10 gallon. And I don’t think they need as much open swim space.
  31. FishNturt808

    Rummies and Betta

10 gallons is a bit too tight for rummynose. They need space to swim.

I just got 2 honey gourami

I would say with honey gourami’s (I guess in this case, till we all decide what kind of gourami this one is 🤔) most any plant that provides them some cover would do. I have frogbit, Java moss, cyprenus helferi (a thin blade, longer grass, looks like a thin jungle valinarus), and rotala...

    Schooling fish options...

Lambchops are a great little fish. Although just like any other schooling fish, the more you have the better. I have a school of 15, but that is in a 55 gallon. I don’t see why you couldn’t put around 7-8 in a 24” tank. Has anyone suggested the aqadvisor site yet? You could punch in all the...
