    29 gallon Betta tank

Well gang, the time has come to upgrade Bernie’s (my betta) 10 gallon tank to a 29 gallon. I’ve been trying to take pics as I go. To start I have larger river rocks as the base and infrastructure layer. To fill the gaps between those I have pea gravel (as you can see in the empty ‘river’ space...

    Ready To Hire An Assassin

Supposedly assassin snails never go after one another. I have had them in a few of my tanks for the last few months, so far they have killed off a ramshorn issue in my shrimp tank. Now they are split (I have 7, maybe 6 🤷🏽‍♂️, total) between 2 tanks. They don’t do as great of a job killing the...

American Cichlid set up - advice needed please!

New world cichlids (north, central, south american) tend to be soft water fish (as far as I know). They also need space and territory. So the bigger the tank the better. They also like hides. Nooks and crannies and caves to tuck away in. I’ve found darker substrates make the fishes colors...

Best mid range Aquarium LED light for color and intensity.

I have 3 different brand lights. Finnex, Fluval, and Current. Programming/function-wise I prefer the fluval. The app is so handy to use. With the finnex (I have crv 48”, hlc 24”, and alc 36”) the timer programming is a bit funky and takes some getting used to/figuring out (I’ve had mine a year...

    3D Tank Backgrounds

Yeah brown is not the choice color for rocks. Hahah. Maybe it looks better wet? But it also probably just looks like wet dog poop.

    3D Tank Backgrounds

For $1000 it better be real nice looking. I’m sure it’ll take you a try or two to get it how you want it. Even then I’m sure you’ll find things you should have done differently.

    3D Tank Backgrounds

Thank you. It has a different centerpiece now. I have new plans for the sandfall structure. If you like crafting at all you’ll like making things for your tanks. Especially with how expensive actual aquarium products are.

    3D Tank Backgrounds

I didn’t make a background, just a sandfall (under water waterfall) it’s not currently in a tank (some technical difficulties that I’m working out). Here’s a few pics I snapped. I also included the one of the epoxy I used to seal it. I highly recommend it. But I haven’t tried anything else. It...

    3D Tank Backgrounds

Yeah I used black cement dye. I think it’s ‘charcoal’ or something like that. Just remember with cement, unless you soak it in water for months after it cures/hardens, you definitely want to put a coat of some sort of sealant to keep your ph from blasting off the charts
  18. FishNturt808

    3D Tank Backgrounds

The cement definitely won’t be heavy enough to sink it, unless you put a very very thick layer on it.

    Electric Blue Acara planted tank

I would go the route of just one blue acara and maybe 3-5 angels. Theoretically the acara would stay lower in the tank than the angels. But, fish do what they want.

    3D Tank Backgrounds

You really could build a 3D background for no more than 100$. All you need is foam, cement, and epoxy resin (all fish safe of course). And you could have a background that you built, so your specifications, your design preferences, and the satisfaction knowing you did it vs paying $1000 or more...

    Fluval CO2 kit

I have a finnex hlc that I was going to use on this tank. I also will then have a spare aquasky from my 10 gallon I could use as supplemental lighting. But from the sounds of it going hi-tech may be more than I wanna chew off. If I could pull it off with a smaller all in one purchase I’d swing...

    Fluval CO2 kit

Fluval Pressurized 1.6oz CO2 Kit, 17554 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074RHS1BM/?tag=ff0d01-20 It seems somewhere along the line an emoji got thrown in there. Should work now. Online reviews are a bit mixed, just seeing if anyone has first hand experience.

    Fluval CO2 kit

Has anyone used this? I’m going to rehome my Betta into a 29 gallon, but I want to try my hand at an actual aquascape. Just looks like for optimal plant growth co2 is highly recommended. I just want to try a real beginner/1st time co2 set up. Fluval Pressurized 1.6oz CO2 Kit, 17554...

URGENT!!! What should I treat internal parasites with?

I’ve used metroplex with focus, and garlic guard. But that only works if the fish are still eating. Other than that any of the in-water treatments I’ve tried have never been successful

    Assassin snail question

If you have a pretty substantial population of ramhorns just one or two assassins would have to eat a lot and often to keep up with the breeding of ramhorns. At least that was the case in my tank. Had to get a handful more to wipe the population out. Took a couple weeks, then I just split them...

    schooling fish question

I have danios, neon tetra, and lambchop rasbora with my honey gourami. I had rummynose tetra with my cories. They all get along. Water parameters tend to be similar ranges. So those would be my recommendations.

    Sand Substrate Tips, Please.

I’ve read that you aren’t supposed to vacuum planted tanks. I haven’t fully committed to the method. I just feel like there gets to be too much poop on the bottom to leave it to its own devices.

    Sand Substrate Tips, Please.

I have sand in 5 outta 6 tanks. The other one being fluval stratum, the ‘tiny clay bee bees’ the op mentioned. All of them are planted. Your basic vals, swords, crypts, etc. They all seem to be doing good. The roots and runners spread well thru the sand, and I have to trim back every few water...

Gold Severum and Polar Blue Parrot breeding?

Although, they are making different color blood parrots now as well, and I don’t mean the way they did it in the past with dye injections. These new ones (that I know of) are ‘panda parrots,’ black and white, and ‘Santa parrots,’ orange with a white spot on the head.

Gold Severum and Polar Blue Parrot breeding?

Oh no. Once they get established in their territory all the convict comes out. I had a group of 7, 3 males, 4 females. And they were complete demons. Responsible for the death of 2 standard convicts, a firemouth, and a blue acara. Had to rehome most of them. (I kept 2) I even had the males in a...

Gold Severum and Polar Blue Parrot breeding?

Polar blues have absolutely no blood parrot in their genetics. It is one of those industry falsehoods. They are just short body convicts, with a fancied up name.

    OMG my Aunubias Flowered (pics)!

I was using seachem florish, but have since switched to aquarium co-op’s all in one(easy green I think). I also use florish excel. But, it started flowering before any of that was done consistently.

    OMG my Aunubias Flowered (pics)!

I don’t know? 🤷🏽‍♂️ Mine started blooming after about 6-8 months of being in my tank. It shoots up a flower about once a month or so now
  36. FishNturt808

    OMG my Aunubias Flowered (pics)!

You’ll just have to trim it off after it runs it’s course. At least that’s what I do with mine, which is flowering right now too!

Why did my shrimp die. :(

The other two kinda nailed the advice on the head for ya. Ph, and hardness of water do tend to play into shrimp keeping more as well. So, if your water changes cause those numbers to fluctuate it could cause shrimps to die, especially the weaker immuned feeders. So I’ll just throw in, when...

    Flourish Glue? First time

It’s the same process as any other gel super glue. Put a little dab, place the plant, spritz it with water, place in the tank.

    Curious; Used tank prices

It depends on your location and what’s readily available. I think I paid 100$-150$ for a used 55 with stand. Which ended up leaking twice, from 2 different locations, so I have decided it’s worth the extra money to just buy new. With filters, as long as you trash the media, and do a thorough...

BP Cichlids in a 55 gallon

Due to being a hybrid, blood parrot males tend to be sterile. My female has laid eggs, however none hatched, even with the firemouth boyfriend she had at the time. In my opinion if you got them both young a pair of blood parrots would be fine in a 55.
