Bad advice in the "Betta Care" thread...

There is the American pit bull terrier, as well as the English bull terrier (long face one, think ‘Spuds Mckensie’)

Bad advice in the "Betta Care" thread...

The dog aggression isn't bred in thru reputable breeders. The only ones with ‘fighting dog’ lines are those that are raised terribly and forced to fight. It’s not a trait. The breeders would continue to breed the ‘winners’ of the fight, presumably the more aggressive dog. And that’s where the...

Bad advice in the "Betta Care" thread...

By ‘pit bull’ are we meaning an actual American pit bull terrier? Or are we just clumping the whole bully breed into the term pit bull because we are scared of them cause of the bad press they receive for looking scary? I also keep my betta with harlequin rasbora and a bristlenose. (It’s a 29...

Could I keep a single blood parrot in a standard 29 gallon or an 82 by 40 by 39cm (32.5 gallons)?

What kind of fish are you looking to keep with the blood parrot? There was mention of their ‘aggression’ in an earlier answer. I own a few, albeit the newest two are only a month in, I’ve had the other one for over a year now. And, it did get murderously aggressive when it laid eggs, it hasn’t...

    Help? Guppy, platy, or molly?

Yeah I think that’s the main issue here. Unfortunately it grew up in the water it’s in so I thought it would be ok. But it seems time and exposure has worn the lil guy down. I’m gonna set up a hard water tank and hope for the best.

    Help? Guppy, platy, or molly?

It eats. Do guppies need hard water? Cause the tank he is in is on the softer side. Did the tests this morning to confirm, I’m out running errands so I don’t have the results on me, but kh took 1-2 drops to change, gh took 8. If I remember right that’s 143.9ppm gh and like 17ppm kh

    Help? Guppy, platy, or molly?

My lil guy/gal Sherman isn’t doing so hot in my shrimp tank. He came no bigger than my pinky nail as a stowaway in a bag of shrimp so I have no idea what kind of fish he is. I want to put him in a tank with water that suits him. As he is obviously not flourishing in the water he is in now.

    Petco is Appauling

There’s a huge amount of ‘short body’ fish out there. Polar blue ‘parrots’ are the main one that come to mind. Just a short bodied convict with a fancy name. Which is what i believe is the same deformation that gourami has.

    29 gallon Betta tank

Alright, here we are, one month in. I just added a co2 system yesterday (when I took this pic). The ‘carpet’ seeds never ended up growing. So I’m sure that will be some kind of issue in the future. I was able to get my hands on some pearlweed, so that is the clumps of green you see in the...

First water change with fish 😰

Hahah oh my gf and I definitely started calling them the suicide squad after. A year or so later, and 3 tank swaps/moves and 8 out of the 10 are still swimming their little hearts out

First water change with fish 😰

I’ve had fish that would swim straight into the siphon hose. Danios. Just one after the next. It was a mad scramble to scoop up a whole school of 10 flopping on the ground. To make sure that never happened again I stuffed a spare filter inlet head into the siphon. I then moved onto using a mesh...

?s - CaribSea Eco Complete Planted Substrate

If it’s the eco complete that is wet inside the bag, I don’t think you are supposed to rinse it. I didn’t rinse the bag I put in my 75 gallon. It’s under a thick layer of sand tho. So I didn’t have any clouding. It will also raise your ph a notch or two

Is Controsoil the Ultimate for Planted Tanks?

I use fluval stratum, which I think is a version of contrasoil. I’ve had it in at least one tank for over a year now and it’s fine. No muddy mess. It does get stirred up a bit when you arrange plants or what-not. But nothing a little siphon or waiting a few minutes for it to settle won’t fix

    Changing substrate

If you have a large enough section of tubing you could always just siphon out the gravel as you are siphoning the water out. I have a 1.5” diameter piece of tube that I have used in the past to get the substrate out of the tank.

    29 gallon Betta tank

Oh, I have 5 ‘big’ tanks. This 29 is my ‘small’ one. At least that’s what I told my girlfriend when I was convincing her it’s ok to set up. I have a breeding pair of bristlenose in one of my 55’s. So I’m happy with that. If any additions are made it’s just gonna be a little colony of blue...

    29 gallon Betta tank

I understand the fish waste and such produces co2, I only have 11 harlequin rasbora, 1 betta, and 1 bristlenose in the tank. Is that a ‘reasonable’ number? I just see these aquascaped tanks that run co2 and I want mine to look like those.
  25. FishNturt808

    29 gallon Betta tank

There’s seeds in the substrate for a carpet. That are finally starting to sprout. So theoretically, it’s gonna have plants covering the whole black section of the substrate. When is ‘enough’ plants to justify co2? Isn’t co2 used to boost plant growth? Therefore the addition of it would increase...

How long have the rummynose been in the tank? From what I’ve seen they are very susceptible to parameter changes. Say from store to your tank.

Ok, added a few plants to the existing Java fern, anubias (nana I think), rotala roundifolia (could be indica, I think that’s what the tag said, I’m not good at the differences), dwarf sagitarus, and a few frogbit floaters. I picked up some hygrophila salicifolia, Ludwigia palustris, ‘lucky...
