    New tank

Always on the hunt, but usually I don’t trust them.

    New tank

Yeah, I’ve gotten most, if not all of my tanks from Petco, but being on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean has its downside with them. Very limited supply, they never do the $1 per gallon sale, and the tanks are marked up a decent amount. A 40 breeder is $140 here.

I just about passed out! HELP... ME

Pearlweed would probably work too. I have it as a carpet in my guppy tank, the fry hide real good in that stuff, even with khuli loaches squiggling about. You don’t have to plant it tho, just toss a clump in as a floater and it should take off in no time. And, just wondering, if you have a...

    New tank

Hey gang, have any of you ordered a tank online? What are some of the sites? I’ve looked on Amazon, nothing amazing, nor what I’m ideally looking for. Aqueon used to make a 30 gallon that would have been the closest resemblance to what I want (axolotl tank in the works). @itiwhetu whats your...

    7 gallon Neon Planted Cylinder

I would try to fashion something to get that light of the rim of the tank. Not much space between the water and the electronics would make me beyond nervous. I hope it’s waterproof at the very least. Between splashing and condensation it’s bound to get some water on it where it is. I really do...

    7 gallon Neon Planted Cylinder

With there being no corners, isn’t the concept an endless swimming circle? They do it in actual aquariums all the time.

    75g planted tank build

I have most of my tanks with layered substrate. Usually an inch or so of thicker gravel, a layer of fluval stratum, then top that off with some sand or gravel (depending on what I’m going with). Something like this.

How to properly clean a bought-used tank where fish died

Wouldn’t muriatic acid eat away at the silicone seams? I’ve used it to clean rocks and seal cement. Never thought to use it for hard water stains

The re-scape journal (found a great deal on river rocks!!!)

I don’t know much about the fish they are. But if they are good parents like cichlids then the fry should do pretty good. I took my fry out cause they were up against tiger barbs and clown loaches, and the stress on mom wasn’t worth it. She wasn’t even letting dad near her side.

The re-scape journal (found a great deal on river rocks!!!)

For next time, try to suck up the fry with some rubber hose. Just siphon them right on outta there. Way easier than trying to swoop them up with a net.

How to encourage fish to swim around ?

As others have said, the fish in question stay towards the bottom, nevermind this tank is not large enough for them, but the only way to get them higher up, in my opinion, would be to add some levels to the tank. Driftwood, or stack some rocks. They need a reason to check out the upper levels.

The re-scape journal (found a great deal on river rocks!!!)

All the bags of landscaping rock I’ve ever used I just give em a solid rinse, till the water runs clear. Then I add them in.

Done with neon tetras, can you recommend other tankmates?

The angels should be fine with the cories. At least they are in my set up. I don’t have any neons in there tho so I can’t say that combo will be ok. If the angels are added while they are still small enough the tetras aren’t a snack option then that could be your chance to make it work.

Done with neon tetras, can you recommend other tankmates?

Was the batch at the store just shipped in? Could have just been from all the time in transit. Fish stores should wait a few days at least before selling new fish.

    Normal Betta Behavior?

I have 2 bettas, one in a 29 gallon, he’s lazy and hardly swims around at all unless it’s for food. The other in a 5 gallon, and he’s all over the place constantly on the move. 29 gallon betta does have the long flowing fins, 5 gallon has shorter streamlined fins, so I assume that makes all the...

    Texas x polar blue convict(parrot)

Hahah basically. I mean polar blues are just short body convicts. So it’s just a mix of texas and convict. Not completely a mutt

    29 gallon Betta tank

Thanks guys!! I just realized I haven’t posted any updates in a couple months. The co2 definitely helps plant growth. That I can say for an absolute fact. This picture was taken March 4th. After my fist big trim. Before the trim all the plants were touching the surface. Some small branches...

What am I doing wrong? I'm about to give up 😞

The copepods you see on the glass, are they scuds? Those will probably be the reason shrimps aren’t producing babies. I’m pretty sure they eat them.

6 New Zebra Danios, 3 dead, one not swimming well

Is your fish shop close to your house? As in, would you be on the same tap water supply? Could be bringing them home to a sudden water parameter change could have picked off the weaker, less adaptable fish. It’s a tough lesson to learn, but always a good idea to drip acclimate new fish with your...

7 gallon shrimp tank fish mates ideas?

^ that actually sounds like the best idea so far

7 gallon shrimp tank fish mates ideas?

The main issue with adding more would be how small your tank is. But, if the tank was bigger I’d say add 2 more rummynose (I believe that’s what you are calling red nose), then at least both schools would be 5 and 5.
  28. FishNturt808

7 gallon shrimp tank fish mates ideas?

Basically with any fish you are going to have to worry about some sort of shrimp predation. Mostly the fry, especially with the size fish you’ll be getting into with only a 7g tank. I think ember tetras stay pretty small.

Fluval plant & shrimp substrate - layer of dirt over everything?

Did you use a gravel vac? I would just use a length of tubing that way you are just getting the stuff on top. I have the fluval stratum substrate in most of my tanks and it has never looked like that. Yours definitely looks like it’s disintegrating. Maybe suck out all you can, again with just...

Are there any wide body tetra that are active school like rummies?

I have a mix of Buenos Aires, X-ray, lemon, and red eye (and one diamond that was in the wrong tank so ended up in with my Buenos couldn’t tell why it looked so different, thought it must have been some melanistic or albino version) in with my firemouth and polar blue. The tetras stick pretty...

Are there any wide body tetra that are active school like rummies?

Lemon tetras, red eye tetras, Buenos Aires tetras (they will munch your plants). The Buenos Aires will get the largest. X-rays probably school the best out of the previously mentioned, but they are pretty small. I don’t know the aggression of the bigger fish you want, but they may see x-rays as...

I think my male Gudgeon is a bad dad... His DNA is obviously off lol

Could it be like inexperienced/young cichlids (convicts come to mind) that eat their first couple clutches cause they have no clue what they are doing yet?

Fluval plant & shrimp substrate - layer of dirt over everything?

I’ll admit I didn’t look at the pictures until your reply…😬 But, yeah definitely siphon that out. The fluval version of aquasoil doesn’t get that messy. I have read some various brands’ reviews and there have been some that said theirs basically broke down immediately into a silty layer, which...

Fluval plant & shrimp substrate - layer of dirt over everything?

You can let it settle then grab a little rubber tubing and spot vac it off the plants and decor. That’s what I do with the stratum, which is pretty much the same thing

Bad advice in the "Betta Care" thread...

The thing you seem to be forgetting, is all dogs are pack animals. They are all breed from wolves. They all have that instinct somewhere deep down inside them. That means picking on the weak, asserting (or submitting to) dominance, etc., so no matter the breed, or how stuffed down the line it...

Bad advice in the "Betta Care" thread...

I live in maui, I see bully dogs on a daily basis. From staffy’s to blue and red nose, to frenchies. I’ll say the only dogs that have ever bit at me are chihuahua’s and a chow mix. The only dog that has ever bit my dog was an Akita/husky mix. Again, as unfortunate as your situation was, you...

Bad advice in the "Betta Care" thread...

Anyway, back to Betta’s…..what I think itiwhetu is trying to get across is we all say we do what’s best for the fish, try to emulate what they would do in the wild, therefore putting bettas together, with ample space, would replicate the conditions they face in the wild
