hello people who like assorted tropical fish including: betas, axolotls, brine shrimp (sea monkeys), velociraptors, flamethrowers, and likely anime

It’s a shame people think releasing a fish to the wild is a good option. There’s been numerous times snorkeling on the reefs here (Maui) and you see a fish you know doesn’t belong and only got here cause some idiot didn’t want it in their tank anymore. Luckily, it’s only been a solitary animal...

    Angelfish and Rummy Nose Tetras

Buenos Aires tetras for the win! They get bigger than most tetras, are active, and shoal/school like most other tetras. I have them with my blood parrot, convicts, and firemouth with no issues so far. They also act as big brothers to my much smaller x-rays I also have in the tank.

    Moving

So I’m moving at the end of the month. My water is going to up ph, and hardness. What should I do to minimize stress and damage to my fishes. I don’t know the exact gh and kh, but I know its higher than where I’m at. Ph is about 7-7.4 where I’m at now. Going up to 8-8.4 range. Drip the new water...

Obviously it’s cause we can’t see them ;)

    Ghosts

Dogs and cats also see different light spectrum than humans, so it is possible they are able to see energies or light anomalies we can’t. But, I also believe in ghosts hahah

    I feel bad...

It’s better than her noticing and selling them, or not noticing at all. At least this way she was able to treat the tanks, which she did. So, yeah, not all box store employees are the same.
  7. FishNturt808

    I feel bad...

This is definitely true. I was gonna buy some rasbora’s from Petco and as she was scooping them up, the employee noticed the spot of ich, and put them all back and let me know what she saw. Then, she informed me the whole bank of 4 tanks was all on the same water, so they would all have it.
  8. FishNturt808

    I feel bad...

Remember a lot of those stores have their tanks (at least sections of them) on the same water pumping system. So, if one tank has ich, the rest in that bank do as well.

    Honey gourami tankmate question

I’m basing this on temperament with other gourami’s, however, it’s a non issue cause I went with another honey gourami. Thank you tho.

    Honey gourami tankmate question

I recently got a honey gourami, currently in a tank with 8 zebra danios, I don’t know that I want another honey gourami, so my question is do they go well with other gourami’s? Or it it strictly honey with honey?

    I did a thing

Living on an island, they are pretty strict with getting live goods shipped here. Gotta get permits and all that. All we have is a Petco, and a couple local pet shops that have fish sections. Not to mention everything is marked up at least double what it costs on the mainland. So, yeah, slim...

    New H.O.B Filter

I just switched my hob to a canister. Just put the media from the hob into the canister, and, presto. Water parameters are same as before, if not a little better with the upgrade in filtration. I do have a small sponge filter that’s been in the tank for about a week, so maybe that’s helping out...

    I did a thing

Thank you! I’m thinking about adding a couple more plants. Well at least one more. Give it a little more depth.

    I did a thing

So, what once was my quarantine tank, has now become my temporary ‘Asian biotope’ set up. It’s a 20 gallon long, eventually gonna become at least a 55 gallon (there’s a juvenile red tailed shark so it needs the space). Had it running on a tetra whisper 10(hob) and a sponge filter. Just swapped...

    Fish Mystery??

I had the same issue, just got some zebra danios, and couldn’t find one for the life of me, finally found him the next day on the ground dried up and crusty. I felt pretty bad.

    Pleco Appreciation Thread

Doesn’t surprise me it was tagged wrong at the store. I did do some online searching because I had the suspicion it was actually a sailfin, but I guess I found enough pics of bristlenose that looked similar that I convinced myself she’s a bnp. Obviously I’ll need to upgrade my tank as she grows...

    Pleco Appreciation Thread

this is big gal al, formerly big al (till I realized it’s probably a girl), common bristlenose pleco. One of the first fish I bought. Made it thru my ammonia fueled, ich outbreak die off. Then the newbie, yet to be named, super red bnp. Obviously still very juvenile. But such a cutie. what’s...

    Convict cichlids

You think both male and female will be ok in the 55? If the chance she’s gonna breed with the firemouth or parrot, I figure she may as well breed with the male convict since they are at least the same type of fish

    Convict cichlids

My girlfriend is not stoked about me moving the qt tank inside, but if I separate the convicts I wanna be able to see my dude. Hahah. I also have a super red bnp juvenile in there. So, it’s going inside haha.

    Convict cichlids

Yeah I’ve seen the polar blues. It’s a 55 gallon. With plans to get something bigger eventually.
  32. FishNturt808

    Convict cichlids

Due to having them shipped. It was an emergency clause in case they didn’t make it. And they were supposed to be so juvenile you aren’t supposed to be able to tell the sex.
  33. FishNturt808

    Convict cichlids

I was planning on a week or two. Haven’t quite decided yet. I also gotta decide if I’m gonna move the male or female or both into the main tank. If I move just one I lose the qt, or have to buy a new set up. I had to get these two shipped from out of state (permits and all) so it’s a recovery...

    Convict cichlids

So I just got a pair of convicts shipped in to me. I want to keep them quarantined, but I also don’t want babies. They are still juvenile, but it’s looking like one is a male and one is a female. I know they are prolific breeders (online research), you guys think the time in quarantine is gonna...

13 weeks cycling fish in down the drain.....cycle reset

I had an on-going struggle with the cycle as well. So bad I killed off something like 15 fish. It was frustratingly brutal and the worst feeling seeing my little buddies suffer and eventually die. things I learned: 1. Use seachem products. They seem to work best. I used stability, pristine...

Where I’m at with my set up....

So, basically a month later, and it’s pretty much a whole new tank. I re-homed my turtle. Added 9 x-ray tetras, and 2 more Buenos Aires tetras (total school of 8 now). I’ve also added a few new plants, moneywort, hornswort, and jungle Val. I also put in a powerhead. Put in a new centerpiece of...

    Amazon sword

I’d say about nickel-quarter size. There were still some 1.5-2” roots coming from it. I have a root tab (or two?) under it, and just added some seachem fluorite black sand the other day.

    Amazon sword

I put an Amazon sword in a few weeks back, when I still had a turtle in the tank, and of course he nipped the plant down to the root nub. My question, it will it grow back? Or should I just suck it up and replace it with a new sword? (The turtle has since been rehomed due to his destruction of...
