Assuming quick start and safe start are the same (that they're just made by different companies) you'll have to wait 24 hours after dechlorinating your water before you can add it to the treated tank water. I believe @Byron has the excellent technical knowledge as to why this is, since he and...
Thank you! You have a lovely YouTube channel by the way, and I sure hope I'm taking good care of him! He's in a 10 gallon and while he was sick he got fed twice a day with bloodworms in the evening, so he is very spoiled and currently fasting from all that loving. I'm planning a tank renovation...
I've never gotten email notifications (even though I don't usually opt out,) but I have noticed that every so often I'll go back to a thread and see a comment I never got notified for. It's very odd
I just wanted to show off some pictures I took of Hank, my betta. I know a few of you ask for updates occasionally, so this is what he looks like now! He's much darker after his color change but he's very vibrant in direct light. That first picture REALLY shows off the black spotted pattern he...
I just remembered I've been meaning to ask, how to I stop his tank water from evaporating so fast? I usually don't fill it to the tippy top anyways but every few days I have to move his heater down to make sure the water line isn't too low. It wasnt much of a problem before, but since every...
I know there probably aren't too many ways I can mess this up, but it still baffles me that cycling the tank just means waiting on the bacteria. I keep thinking there's something I have to do to help it along.
Hank is doing really good! He's active all day, he is incredibly curious of...
I'm doing a fish-in cycle assisted by tetra safestart and my betta Hank. Unfortunately I don't have the API test kit like I want, but I do have strips (which I've been told a lot that are unreliable). My ammonia levels are between 0 and .25, which is lower than before I added the ammonia, but my...
His water level is already below tank line, by like 4 or 5 inches maybe? He's like three so I'm not sure. I plan on adding salvinia anyways at a later date
I've been considering leaving the lid of my tank off since it darkens the tank a lot, it's in the way for feeding and maintenance, and my water line is always lower anyways. I might have done it without thinking too hard about it, but the other day I had food in my tweezers held above the water...
For sure lol the bloodworms definitely helped. For enrichment during feeding time occasionally I'll move the tweezers and have him chase his meal and he has always moved quicker for the worms. Maybe he'll just enjoy them that much more once a week :)
The only instructions are to add the whole thing and to shake it really good. I had to find an outside article (which I made a thread about a while back) that tested out and elaborated on how to properly use it. Maybe to be safe I'll hold off but I'm not sure how long it will last on my desk
Lol my betta refuses to eat more than half a pellet before realizing it's not gourmet and spitting it out. I can see if we have any frozen peas I can thaw, but none of those other food options are available until quarantine lifts. I think I'm going to fast him tonight either way because I don't...
I've been feeding my betta Hank flakes in the morning and bloodworms in the evening every day for the past week or so. He had a bigger meal last night as he always seems hungry and I'm worried I'm underfeeding him (a quick Google search told me that bettas know when to stop eating, but even when...
Probably goldfish. I've only had them once when I was a lot younger (in a way too small and way too overstocked tank) but I've heard that they require a lot more than most people give them. Don't really enjoy them enough to keep any, though I am passively curious about why their care standards...
I have one fish in the tank currently, a betta. If a bacterial bloom will harm him I'll wait and only apply it if the initial batch fails, but if it's just a visual thing then I think I'll do it.
On every bottle of safestart it recommends you to add the entire amount. Should I do half at first...
On I believe Wednesday I put Tetra safestart Plus into my tank to help with cycling. Today my mom brought home some regular safestart. Can I put this bottle in too? They're both the same size meant for up to 20 gallons.
On the one hand the more beneficial bacteria the better, but on the other...
If they're available to you, I recommend bloodworms (frozen, not freeze dried). If not, soak your food in a little bit of garlic, it's an appetite stimulant for them. Most bettas simply can't resist either of those.
I'm impressed with the care you're taking for your fish! Does Nyx have any tank mates that might have nipped her fins, or do any of her other decorations have edges that could cut pantyhose if you ran it over them?
Whoa that's such a pretty plant! Do you order yours online? I'm not sure how to bring the plants home as the nearest nursery is the next state over, and I don't know if they can be shipped if it doesn't have any
I'm probably not going to change Hank's tank very much, if at all, until quarantine is over. That being said I'm definitely not satisfied with how it looks, and I'd love to fix it up for him. I want to fully render my plans for his tank, but in order to do that I need to know what they are. Step...
I definitely do not have an impeller lol, I can take pictures of it if you'd like. I successfully figured out how to quiet it down, but now I can't get the lid back on. Will it be fine without it for a little bit?
My mom came in earlier and wanted to feed him a little bit. She thinks that this is the most vibrant and healthy he's ever looked, so I'm taking that as a good sign. Go Hank! Work that new coloration!
I think I threw the filter box away unfortunately so I'm not sure what type it is, but at the moment I have aquarium gravel. I'm not sure what an impeller is yet, but my filter has a slotted intake on the back and little waterfall output towards the top front with room for filter media taking up...
My filter is for 5 gallons or less and suctions to the inside of my tank, with intake covered by panty hose (for my betta) and an output that usually has a gentle flow. It is usually pretty quiet, with an acceptable amount of flow.
Yesterday after a water change my filter began to make a...
