Betta looking so much better :)

I just got done talking to my mom, and I don't know if I'm gonna be allowed to get anything else for Hank. She was freaking out because I don't really think she understands that "food and stress coat," especially in a 1 gallon tank, are not all a betta need to survive. She said that with that...

I am absolutely a chronic worrier lol I'm very sorry I don't mean to. I know you said you have 7 bettas and you're also a moderator, so my worry lies more in my ability to read and comprehend your instructions properly than whether or not to follow them. I'm really scared that I'm gonna make...

Will do! Thank you for the advice lol They also asked me about his fin shape. Is that an important thing to factor into his health? I was having a little bit of a hard time keeping up with all of the questions :/

Betta looking so much better :)

Okay so I don't want to have a premature celebration... but I think I have good news? I went in to check on hank and he managed to completely right himself. His breathing is still worryingly tense, but he definitely still has some fight in him and I don't think he's ready to give up yet. Go...

Is there anything else I should do until them to keep him safe? His filter has been running for a little bit to keep the water clean but I can shut it off to eliminate as much noise and light as possible

Betta looking so much better :)

I tried to feed him the bloodworms again and he was having none of it. I dropped the worm and when I tried to grab it to prevent it from rotting he spooked and swam to the middle of the tank, doing his sideways swim again, before nosediving :( I've got the lights completely off again and I'm...

I did, both times for the water change. For the bloodworms, the first offering he swam out of his log I think to try to come get, but his swimming has this awful tilt so he went to rest beside his log. He did not move to catch the second one, I think even that little bit exhausted him but he...

Water changed and salt added. Will monitor him further, but I'm also gonna look for tweezers to see if he's up for those bloodworms
  11. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

Okay with the salt: I've done a 50% wc today. Should i do 25% more and add the salt, or wait until tomorrow?

Hi! I'm back from the store @Deanasue unfortunately I did not see your messages until I got home just now or I would have held off on the safestart and asked about the media. I did get the aquarium salt and frozen bloodworms though. Is it possible to make the filter media myself? I'm not sure...

I appreciate the help. The lights are off with my window shade cracked just enough for me to see by. I'm calling my local stores now to see if they stock aquarium salt Edit: getting ready to drive in now. My list is aquarium salt, safestart, and bloodworms. The master kit will be ordered online...

Do I need specifically aquarium salt? If not I have himalayan pink salt. Also, I had to attend my classes so I couldn't watch hank during them. They just finished and I went to check on him and he's lying on his side gasping so hard it's shaking his whole body. Video coming. Is another water...

Betta looking so much better :)

I will definitely take your advice! Is the salt calculation based on the volume of the whole tank, or the volume of the water itself? Also, when you say the first day after and then with each water change, do you mean the first time after WC wait a day to add, then do salt with each WC after...

Guppies make me feel like the grim reaper

Aw I'm really sorry to hear about that. Do you know what caused that?
  17. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

It's possible it's ammonia poisoning, and since I don't have the kit yet I definitely don't want to rule it out. I don't know if the tetra safestart took when I put it in the tank, and since it's uncycled that would mean the only way the ammonia was being taken out of it is through water...

Betta looking so much better :)

I do not have my ammonia test kit yet, and my testing strips have consistently revealed nitrite to be 0, though I've heard they may be innacurate. I did a 50% water change earlier, but when you say large water change do you mean even larger? I will likely be performing another water change this...

He still has not eaten. Do you think he would be receptive to the garlic soaked food? I'm not sure he could swim to it unless it landed right on top of his mouth. Essjay mentioned to me that fish can go up to two weeks without food. I absolutely don't want to make Hank go that long, but I trust...

Betta looking so much better :)

I just finished his water change, during which he moved to the front of the tank while assisted by the pull of the water. His breathing is shallower and harder to notice now. I guess the main question here is, is this a very serious situation? If it is, is it salvageable? Do bettas recover...

Betta looking so much better :)

I checked on Hank just now and he's moved position, but now he's completely on his side and his breathing is less rapid but still heavy. What can I do for him? Edit: I checked on him again and he is definitely gasping, and his swimming fins are moving really quickly. Is it time to lower the...

Would flakes be okay until I can get him to eat pellets? I can see if he rejects the pellets first but at this point i just want my little guy to be okay :(

Betta looking so much better :)

I don't have a gravel vac, but I can add that to the long list of things to get lol. Also, I talked to my mom to see if I could use the garlic. She told me she would rather try flakes first because they like to eat the food off of the top of the surface. I know flakes cause more mess and...
  25. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

Will do. As a side note, his food always disappears into the gravel when it is allowed to reach the bottom. How can I prevent this to make removing it easier?
  26. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

I will definitely try the garlic thing, since appetizing is exactly what I need him to see. Is it recommended to try to feed him now, or to reduce interactions to see if he can calm down and feel a little better?

Betta looking so much better :)

Thank you pheonix for your help! And to juice, I've read a lot that bettas rest lying down. Is it normal for them to spend 90% of their time resting? Additionally, when he does swim sometimes it looks like it's really exhausting for him. I had hoped some food in his belly would help I will...
  28. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

I do not. His 10g came with what I believe is a bubbler (one of those chests that opens and closes with bubbles) but it did not have any airline tubing or a way to operate it, so I set it aside. I can alternate his filter on and off though?
  29. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

He is tilted, as he has been for about 60% of his rests, but he has never been fully on his side yet
  30. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

How frequent should I change his water with no filter? He is breathing heavily still and lying down. Will he be able to last a long time without coming up for air? The water should be well oxygenated from his filter output
  31. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

I don't think my filter is adjustable and I have no pantyhose. I will turn the filter off Edit: he has adjusted his positioning at least twice at the bottom of the tank but he has not come up for air yet. How long can I wait until I have to intervene?
  32. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

I did the water change. He swam frantically away from the filter and is now resting at the bottom of the tank again. I will keep monitoring him to make sure he can make it to the top for breaths. Do I add the seachem prime now that the water is changed?

I apologize for the camera quality but these were the best photos I could take. He has white markings on his left gill (facing the camera) in the vague shape of an eye that I assumed were his natural color, otherwise I haven't noticed anything else off about his face

He is in his 10g now, since it started in the net and I released him immediately so as not to keep stressing him
  38. Quin

Betta looking so much better :)

Will it further stress him to be moved? Any reduction to the volume of the water will move him significantly as he is right at the surface and close to being shoved by the filter output. If you are experienced in this kind of thing and can assure me that this action won't further his shock I...

Betta looking so much better :)

I can perform whatever long term things that will help him once I know he is safe. I am looking to find what will help him now, as I am inexperienced and I don't know how serious this is or how to help him out of this

Betta looking so much better :)

It is not cycled. I moved him from his tiny tank into the 10 gallon on emergency because he was looking ill in that one too. I added Tetra safestart yesterday in the hopes that it would assist a fish-in cycle. He had perked up immediately after the tank change, but the day after that and the...
