Interesting colors and debris/algae in planted tank

My betta is in his own 30L (just under a smidge off US 8 gallons) He has a bladder snail in there that was a hijacker on a plant, but other than that I can't imagine putting anything but maybe another snail in there? I kinda feel a tinge of guilt keeping him in there and wanting to upgrade to a...

    Small Fish keep dying

Guppies are pretty week nowadays, lots of people report so. How long have you had that tank running, the media looks very clean. Ammonia levels over 0 are dangerous and will kill overnight. Nitrite are dangerous over 0 too. Anytime a reading is over 0 a big water change (50% min, 75% ideal)...

I'm concerned about one of my mollies

You will be doing a fish in cycle. Aquariums are all about the nitrogen cycle. See link https://www.fishforums.net/threads/cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first.421488/ Aquarium Co-Op or KG Tropicals also have good videos on the cycle. Interestingly though, your nitrates are high...

I'm concerned about one of my mollies

Not sure per se on the scales bit but not to scare you, all of them will deffo be getting Ammonia poisoning. You need to do a big water change until the tank cycles, everytime ammonia or nitrites read above zero. You may well be doing this for a month or so everyday. I’m assuming by your...

    Help!

Sponges will last for years, I just swish mine about once a month or so in the tank water in a bucket (water taken during water change) Some people squish them like a kitchen sponge but I can't really say I do!

Haaaaaang on there just a weee second. Am I right then in thinking Bristlenose are suitable for hard water then? Was thinking of getting one to put in with my guppies?

    Worming with Fry in tank

I've used that exact wormer recently. I have no fry, so apologies if my post is not useful. It's a pretty good one, my guppy was half the size after just the first dose, and after the second is acting far more like a guppy. Sadly, and on my watch, it did kill a bladder snail, it came on a plant...

Mum has joined the aquarium hobby again!

Good afternoon Further to me getting 3 tanks :cool:, my mum wants to get back into the aquarium hobby. When I was young, like many of you know, fishkeeping advice was very different, there was no cycling of tanks. She even had a common pleco! That got very large but luckily it was a...

    Betta caught in vaccum!

Bless his heart! One of my cories swam up it when I wasn't paying enough attention, he was spinning round. He was a bit shell shocked and stayed at the bottom for a lil bit, but he's doing mighty fine, no physically obvious signs of damage. I hope your fishy makes a swift recovery. These things...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

Murphy needs to shoosh up. :D Seriously though, have you seen it eat. It’s like the snails/slugs off Creature Comforts and that’s so annoying. It has teeth! And Cory looks like Murphy and Murphy looks like Cory. It’s all too weird. Did I mention the teeth? Fish should just be gummy.

Bettas rest quite a lot actually, I’ve a tall anubias in my Betta’s tank so he can rest on leaves near the surface.

First time aquarium, please help determining NTD. (with photos)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but at my work, they have a fish tank in the office, a Fluval 34L. I rehomed a clown loach with the LFS today. I asked them to take him in, no credit, nothing wanted, just a proper tank and him to be looked after properly. If anyone knows the size of the Fluval 34L...

Betta Fish Hanging Out at Bottom of Tank & Breathing Heavy

Have to say, I haven't washed my filters/parts of filters that much . I think the last time was a couple weeks ago, 'took it apart', swished it in the removed tank water and put it back. Didn't squeeze it or anything. Put it back, lovely job! Probably won't swish it again for another...

Betta Fish Hanging Out at Bottom of Tank & Breathing Heavy

The tap water will pretty much remove or kill any bb build up. You need to just lightly rinse anything in a bucket of tank water (day, during the WC)

    Weird cycle problems- please help!

The link on here for cycling a tank stipulates an ammonia level of 3ppm. I highly imagine there’s not enough ammonia to enable the bb to grow. I am cycling one fish less myself and it’s going really well by using this guide...

Help! How can I help my Betta

Is he on the floor of the tank? What are the results from your water test, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. Is he alone or are there other fish, what’s he in, filter, heater. Any odd behaviour over the last few days? How long have you had him, how long has the tank been cycled?

    Help Needed With Cyling!

My only guess would be that there’s still not enough bacteria, even for a cycled sponge, although I do have concerns that it would have bb after being in transit. Although you do get the bottles of bacteria. I think temperature might affect bb too?

Such a thing as too many plants?

Evening all So, Boo Boo was obsessed yesterday with the mirrored sides of the tank. I didn’t want him stressed out so I have put some javas fixed to driftwood and glued the anubias to the ornaments. He seems happy but I’m worried there’s now not enough room in there for him. Is there such a...

1.8 gallon/7 litre fish tank ideas?

I think a lot of the nano fish are still too much for this as they need space to dart about. To be honest, I would say snails or a couple shrimps at most. I certainly wouldn’t put a Betta in there. My Betta has a 30L for himself and by some internet posts I’ve seen, even that is slightly too...
