    Development of N. Multifasciatus

How long does it take for the Neolamprologus Multifasciatus fry to reach sexual maturity? I have a trio, 2F 1M, with a batch of fry from each female. Each clutch emerged 2 to 3 weeks apart. The first set of fry look like miniature versions of the adults, and the second are still developing...

    Frogbit Root Length

Exactly how long will the roots on my frogbit plants grow? The plants have been in my tanks almost a year, but I had thought they all died off up until about 4 months ago. Most of the growth has been in the last couple months. The longest roots so far are almost 12 inches (39 cm) from the water...

What Mistakes Have You Made While Fishkeeping?

I didn't keep the dog away when cleaning a tank... I was using a gravel vac when cleaning a 10 gallon tank. Rebel, as per usual, was following me around and barking (he was very jealous of the fish tanks). The gravel vac surprised one of my White Cloud Mountain Minnows and it jumped right out of...

    Help with diagnosing my guppy?

I have had ich in my tanks a couple of times, but I do not believe it is ich. I have no experience with velvet, and am not sure what the symptoms are. The ph down might be having an adverse effect on the guppy. Is he the only one reacting this way? Is there a particular reason you are trying to...

    Snail Identification/Removal?

For the ammonia, water changes until it reads zero. Adding quick growing plants will help long term, but in the short water changes are best. As far as the snails go, I see mostly ram shorn snails, and I thought I spotted one Malaysian trumpet snail. You can get rid of the snails manually by...

You could try something like a turkey baster to take the uneaten food pieces out.

Aren't the ghost knife fish a lot more shy than the other planned inhabitants? From what I have read, an Oscar and the clowns might pick on them.

    Flagfish

I had my Flags with WCMM and Pepper Corydoras in a 29g, and the male Flag was real fin nipper. Loved how the tank looked, but I had to separate the fish. My Flags now live happily in a 10 gallon prone to hair algae and they love it. I might try them in a big tank with more room eventually.

    Any plant or decoration recommendations?

I really like hornwort for bettas, as well as guppy grass, both are pretty easy to grow. Those float and my betta will often perch on them. Java ferns are also easy to grow, and you can attach them to different decorations using fishing line or super glue. The roots will eventually anchor to the...

    How to stop glofish aggression

This is based purely on my experience with this species. What are the dimensions of the tank? The glofish in question are a modified version of the Skirt/Widow tetras. They can get nippy if there are not enough of them in a shoal. Since you have 6, I don't think that is the case. But...

    Nitrate in tap water

Tests trips are notoriously inaccurate, but there are water sources that have nitrates already present. I would suggest live plants to help with any excess nitrates in the water.

    Breeding Projects for 29 Gallons

Yeah, it sounds challenging, but I can do ro/di to soften the water on the tank, and I have quite a few botanicals on hand for tannins. Worst comes to worst, I can make it into the soft water tank I always wanted.

    Breeding Projects for 29 Gallons

I am not necessarily selling for profit, but just to help pay for upkeep on my tanks. I mostly plant to trad my lfs for credit, and a somewhat obscure fish would be nice. I am not sure if I would be able to handle mailing fish, so it would be local sales most likely. I was looking at pairs a...

    Breeding Projects for 29 Gallons

They were wild caught, they got fed mostly frozen shrimp, bloodworms, and live shrimp, with dried foods twice a week and shredded veggies for them to nibble on. They refuse to spawn if no other orange chromides are present. The pair formed when all 8 were in the tank. I took all but the pair out after the 3rd batch of eggs, and got nothing for a few months until I added the 3rd one back to the tank.

So, some background. I am going to stop my efforts to breed Orange Chromides in a couple of months (unless I show success soon), as I have been at that for almost a year with 0 fish to show for it. It has been exhausting. I will be moving my current pair and their buddy to the 80 gallon tank...

What Fish Do You Regret Buying?

I am beginning to regret my Orange Chromides. I originally couldn't find them anywhere, and then the lfs got some and I purchased. Then a pair started breeding so I had to move the others. Then neither I nor the parents could keep any of the fry alive. Then another pair started breeding in...

How to salt bath for fin rot

I usually mix the salt into I a cup of water, and slowly add it to the container my fish is in, using the same method as a drip acclamation. Or I occasionally add the salt to my filter a bit at a time so it dissolves into the tank water. This is a little abrupt, but I have never had any problems.

When did you get into breeding fish?

My experience is pretty similar to yours. I have successfully raised guppy and platy fish, and my Neo. Multifasciatus shell dweller project has already had second successful spawning, with very few losses. My Orange Chromides keep spawning, but I cannot seem to keep the fry alive.

Are my guppies eating white clouds?

For a 10 gallon tank, you could do maybe 5 white clouds and maybe 3 or 4 guppies. The betta would more than likely do fine in the 5 gallon, as he has a smaller bioload.

Are my guppies eating white clouds?

I would do twice weekly (at least) water changes of at least 50% until you can get a bigger tank, and maybe feed only once a day or once every other day. Small tanks are just much more delicate and unstable when it comes to water parameters.
