If anyone has followed along on this thread, and my other thread about the “red” saddleback loaches I got a while back… in the 1st group I received one that was black / way darker, that is really shy, and has been unphotographable, thus far, but has been hanging out in the corner I grow extra...

    Americans, stockpile some food now

I have one... we don't call it a bunker, we call it a safe room, it's fire proof, so, we can go there for tornados, or if the house caught fire, & we couldn't get out... it's not bomb proof though, & while it has a ventilation system, it's also not radiation proof... it's 2 rooms, the back room...

My most expensive fish $ 1300.

I’ve always loved Arrowanas, I grew one to about 24 inches, when I had them before… but now that I’m back into aquariums, I have too many expensive interests to spend anywhere near that much for fish today…

    Americans, stockpile some food now

I suppose before this gets political ( which it undoubtedly will ) … we keep a year’s supply of basics… it’s just how we live on the farm… with as JIT as the food sources are, and the way the average person lives today… a food shortage could happen for any number of reasons

    Dusting up foods….

My mortar and pestle have become one of my most used tools, for my aquariums… right now I find I use it for all my fish except my Cichlids, and Tin Foil barbs… I started “dusting” to supplement my bio film for my Hillstream tank…in that tank, I started with Bacter AE, to supplement my bio film...

My Cool water "barb" tank begins...

The more I’m digging, it looks like there are 2 different species, sold as “Mascara barbs”… the ones I ordered, are supposed to be Assimilis… which have all the wild colors… but the other variety, apsara, often called “super red”

Was looking for some pictures of Mascara barbs, just to get an idea of color variations… Ran across these from a seller I’d never heard of before, a couple interesting color variations… top one is listed as a (Wild Red-line) Interesting… a Canadian fish store… @GaryE … have you ever heard...

    Tilapia start of year 3…

Disappearing fish… each year I’ve had a noticeable fish disappear, from my outside tanks… not sure if a predatory bird, or a raccoon, goes fishing, while I have my guards open, during the day, or they jump out, and my outside doggie eats them… anyway this year, one of the females in my outside...

    What constitutes meaningful tank aggression?

In my South American tetra tank, there is so much shade from Pothos vines over the top, that the light is so diffused, there are no shadows, it makes it challenging to take pictures, but my understanding, is many of these need a lack of light to reproduce.. and while I’m not specifically trying...

Tanks are ready to move the breeders and fry into the house for the winter… 45 gallon tall, on the top, for breeders, 65 gallon, on the bottom, for fry/ fingering raising… I have a pump in the lower tank, and intend to syphon fry/fingerlings out of the top tank, directly into the raising tank...

Trying to add a new word to my vocabulary…

“Riparian” most of our popularly collected fish enjoy riparian vegetation in their natural habitat… for fish, this is mostly the roots from shore plants, though a good portion of fish go into seasonal flood plains, and swim among terrestrial plants, temporarily under water… I have a Pothos...

got some larger stones that are starting to collect "stuff" between them, that even the Corys can't get into, in my medium Cichlid tank...

Part of my problem there, is the stones are on the side I feed from, and the water flow pushes down there, so I end up with food getting in the rocks… it’s challenging to reach over far enough, but if I feed at the center of the tank, very little gets to between the rocks… it’s a fairly thin...

    Sand in the Tank

I’ve found sand, to make it’s self flat faster than other substrates, but over time, all seem to end up flat… so even if you put something solid ( a wedge of plastic ) for example… the sand will continually move down the hill, piling up deeper at the bottom, and exposing the wedge at the top… if...

Using Chinese evergreen in a fish tank

I've got a few leaves that haven't wilted under water, but I suspect there is enough of the plant above the water's surface... and they'll die sooner or later, if I don't get them above the water... 25 years ago, when I did my 1st Potho's in a tank ( it was accidental back then )... I had a vine...

Using Chinese evergreen in a fish tank

I had talked to 10 tanks about submerged, but never did it myself... I always did them, plants above the tanks, and bare roots in hang on pots in the aquariums, or in the box section of a hang on back filter, in place of the bio media ( I still use the foam, but be aware the roots of the plants...

also considered building one, using normal sized hose, reduced to that smaller rigid tube, to increase the velocity of the suck... also considered adding a few Cambarellus patzcuarensis ‘orange... got a shallow pile at the base of the bubble waterfall, starting to grow some stuff I don't want in the tank, between the rocks... it's a 24 inch tall tank, so it's harder to reach the bottom... I'm thinking about something like this to try to suck out between the rocks... anyone else with a...
