    600L Heater options?

Most of my tanks have a Hygger 500 watt heater ( I also use AQQA brand ) on my tanks in the house, ( most are 45 gallon thru 65 gallon ) I only run one heater in each tank… but I have 2 tanks in an unheated entryway ( a 45 gallon, and a 65 gallon ) that room is insulated but unheated… it gets...

    getting to know the "torpedo"...

I don’t get to sit and watch my barb tank as much as I do the bigger group of tanks… but I saw the torpedo working the sand like an earth eater Cichlid, tonight… interesting, because it’s body type, looks predatory… the spot tail algae eaters still give that one a lot of space… and speaking of...

    Native Midwestern Fish

mostly sporting fish... smaller are usually Blue Gills, Sun Fish, Pumpkin Seeds, Crappies, etc... there are a lot of awesome fish in the minnows, Rainbow shiners for one, stickle backs maybe... you could look here ( I've not bought from them ) but they have a lot of pictures...

Air line, they don’t make it like they used to…

It may not actually be harder on the lines, as they all have a working pressure… the cheaper pump, being a piston pump, may actually not be as smooth, and pulse more than a better pump??? But it is a size bigger, so I may have to put a bleed of valve in the system… the current pump, is...

Patience is hard, and fish generally live for a long time…

So, this is my story… When I started setting my tanks back up, a couple years ago, I was excited about putting fish back into my tanks, that had sat empty for 20-25 years… in my time out of the hobby, lots of things changed, including the closing of all the local fish suppliers… I visited a...

Air line, they don’t make it like they used to…

So my main air pump went out, so I’m buying a much better quality air pump… which may challenge my air lines even more??? My bigger tanks are all heavily filtered, and OK without air… but my 2 - 10 gallon holding tank racks ( 4 tanks total ) use air driven sponge filters… while cobbling up air...

    Strange Denison Barb behavior…

It took 2 days, but the “Borg” have started to assimilate the new fish… they haven’t really “joined” the group yet, but aren’t hanging in the corner anymore, and now occasionally swimming with the group… the new ones aren’t as brightly colored yet, so I can still easily tell which ones they are…...

Woke up early this morning, before the tank lights come on… missing my big silver night gliders…

Since I moved my Tin Foils to another tank… I’m missing them on mornings I’m up drinking my caffeine, before the tank lights come on… I could always see their big silver body’s circling in the dark, reflecting the night light across the room… no noticeable movement in the dark this morning… My...

Having some smaller fish ( the Mascaras ) seems to make the algae eaters feel more secure… one is working the driftwood, just a little ways away from them

This is my biggest 2 year old male ( assuming just by coloration, that I have 3 males and 2 females )… 3 of them have black n their dorsal fins… the other 2 have red, and are slightly smaller ( maybe it’s 3 males, and 3 females??? )he is just over 8 inches long

    getting to know the "torpedo"...

Acrossocheilus fasciatus there is next to nothing on them out there that I could find... they list them on Wet Spot... they only picture juvenal's, and call them railway barbs... ( the seller I got them from calls them... Red Fin Torpedo Barbs ) but they go through quite a transformation, to...

    Bolstering biofilm for Aufwuchs eaters

my hang on back filters are on each end, I add the powders to a shaker bottle, & pour it in the center of the tank, as far away from the filters as I can, & only supplement about once a week, or every other... the Bacter gets nasty ( stinky ) in the shaker bottle, if I don't wash it out within...

    Bolstering biofilm for Aufwuchs eaters

So, I have mentioned before, that I use Bacter AE to supplement my bio film, for my Hillstream Loaches ( I also do the same for Plecos, and Oto’s )… my Hillstream’s are thriving… but lately I’ve been thinking about going one step further… and starting to add some of the powdered “fry foods”...

    Thermometers

    Strange Denison Barb behavior…

I had added a “gold form” Denison to the tank 6 months or more ago, and it took a week or better to integrate… at the time, I assumed that was because it didn’t look like the others, but it didn’t display any submissive behavior… one of the new ones is nose down in a corner, the other newcomer...

2 of the Mascaras have red dorsal fins... the Torpedo, being an adolescent, is changing from it's juvenal striped pattern... it almost looks like a Perch, until you look at it's mouth... it looks skinny, but ate 2 algae pellets, as soon as I put them in... will probably worm this tank, once it's...

I ended up getting 1 male and 2 females ( they are in my current TOM entry ) so you can see the environment they seem, to be thriving in... the females are just as colorful as the male, they just lack the very extended dorsal fin ( whip antenna ), mine eat well of my normal tank's varied diet...
