Blue Gourami are actually a pretty pugnacious species and grow large enough to become an issue.

    Types Of Tetra

All commonly available Rasbora species are perfectly harmless, ideal quiet community fish. All best kept in reasonable size groups, (say 6+), otherwise they tend to hide and sulk. Probably my favourite group of fish.

    Types Of Tetra

I've not kept Serpæ's for more than 40 years. I had one male in the group that was manic and nipped at everything. Black Neons and Glowlights are harmless enough. There are very many tetras, only a few of the commonly available types are avertly aggresive.

    Barb Id

For decades known as Barbus conchonius, then Puntius conchonius, and currently Pethia conchonius. In the trade, Rosy Barb or Rosey Barb. Wild specimens can grow 100mm or a little over, but they are generally peaceful unless presented with obvious food, (read great long flowing fins etc.). The...

Red Tailed Rasbora With Different Colouration

Are we talking about Rasbora borapetensis here? Common names vary over the world, so you can never be sure. I've not had R. borapetensis with red dorsal fins before. I have heard that Malayan specimens, ie. the most southerly extent of their range, do have more red colouration however. Do you...

    Tetra Id Help?

Trigonostigma somphongsi perhaps, (formally Rasbora somphongsi). The picture is not great, but does not look like a tetra. Can't see an adipose fin, though, of course, that doesn't prove anything. Rasbora heteromorpha, (now classified as Trigonostigma heteromorpha), are not Danios.

One Of My Neons Tetras Is Pregnant

Neons are egg scatterers, externally fertilised. As such, can never be pregnant. They breed in acidic, VERY soft water, (like zero or close to hardness), and are regarded as a challenge to breed. You should look for other causes of the problem, if, indeed, it is a problem. They can stuff...

Badis Bengalensis (Dario Dario) In 10 Gallon Planted Tank

This was an interesting thread, because of the location it was asked! Since Badis are neither Cyprinids, nor Characins, nor Atherinids, here seems to be wrong. But what are they though? A bit of research shows that they could equally well be thought of as relatives of Gouramies, or Cichlids for...

    Neon Tetras

Breeding egg layers is not quite the same as livebearers. With the common livebearers, just add water is frequently enough. For females that have mated and produced fry, you often don't even need the male, the female can store sperm internally and produce several clutches of fry from it...

This is a kind of sideways step. I've not thought much about it. If you travel back in time, at the arrival point the mass of the universe has increased. What Goes Well With Tiger Barbs?

Characins, (tetras), are far better equipped to nip or bite causing damage than barbs which do not have jawed teeth, yet one rarely sees mention of the /possibility/ of a Neon savaging it's tank mates. Barbs, on the other hand, are frequently dished the "nipper" label.

    Breeding Help Please

pH should be below 7, in nature, the pH can get very low 5 or even lower at the start of the rainy season. Breeding Captive Tetras A Myth?

Once mature, sexing is fairly easy. Males have a red nose, much more red in the fins and are generally brighter, females less so and tend to be deeper in the body. Mixed Tetras

Shoaling or schooling is a defense strategy. If the fish feel threatened, they school up, if the perceived threat is severe enough, different species will school together. In a stress free environment, many "schooling" species will do their own thing, in their own direction at their own pace.
