    Flow For Ill Fish

It may be better to reduce the flow temporarily if possible. I've had to compromise flow on my 120l for the sake of the fish...

    Tanks Near Speakers?

My 120l is about 8" from the tv surround sound speaker and when we watch a film with it on I see no reaction from the fish.

    Strange Tank Colouration.

Welcome to the forum! It could be a slight bacterial bloom or a biofilm on the inside if the glass. Have you tried scrubbing the inside of the glass? Sometimes a backdrop will highlight any cloudiness instead of disguising it. Love the name by the way! Meant to ask, how long has the water...

    Injured By Aquarium.

Ew, you ghoulish person! I hope it wasn't too bad a cut; at least with glass cuts they are 'clean' so knit back together easily... I think you need a stiff drink to get over the pain!

    New 45L Hex

With the duckweed, yes just add it and watch it spread, you'l only need an egg cup full. Java fern and Anubias are easy as pie, just remember not to 'plant' them into the substrate they need tying or supergluing onto wood or rocks. Moss is just the same, I glued mine on as my water is too hard...

    Sticky Thermometers

I don't trust the ticky ones either but all my tanks are second hand and already had them. I have the traditional type thermometer that's inside the tank too and surprise, surprise they both read diferent temperatures. I go with the internal reading!

From Bad, To Worse, To Mega Bad

What an absolute nightmare! The delay with the fish would have been enough on it's own but the qt tank must have been the last straw. I'd have been rocking slowly backwards and forwards and licking the windows if it had been me!

    [Swap] Male Bn For Female.

If it's of any use Maidenhead Aquatics at Basingstoke have medium and large BN's at a sexable size and it's not too far from you down the M3. Not cheap though, I think the largest was £18.50.

    Sticky Thermometers

I tried that too. Once I realised it wouldn't peel off I tried scraping it with a razor blade. All that accomplished was shredding it and thus making it completely useless!

    Adfs - Widely Available

All the frogs have settled in nicely and the water has cleared. The new ones are eating voraciously (perhaps too much so) but now that I can see him better I have noticed the older one's right eye has a white film over it and he's not half as active as the other two. I'm hoping that the low flow...

    Small Filter Advice Please

Thanks Carl and Ian, they both look good. I can't see whether the flow is adjustable on the first one though and I'm not sure how I'd fit a hob filter as the tank is an Aquastart 320 and has one of those close fitting lids that is hinged at the back. Ideal to stop froggies from acidentally...

    What The...?

Me too :). I'm going to have to have a large bowl of chocolate ice-cream to get over the disappointment

    What The...?

It does look egg shaped, but I reckon it's a stone too. Dwarf frogs eggs float at the surface so it can't be that. I'd fish it out and take a look personally I'm to curious!

    Yoyo Loach Observation

That must have been worrying! I've never kept them myself so can offer no better explanation than yours but it seems an odd way to argue; were they doing it telepathically do you think?! ;)

Celebes Rainbow Suddenly Gasping, Shaking Head And Bent At Back

I do feel rather guilty as I am planning on introducing moonlighting when i can afford it as I know they get very startled when the lights go out. I should have turned the filter or heater off instead as it was only for a short while. You live and learn...

    Colour Of Faeces

Excellent news, not an illness then?! I've never kept GBRs but as a general rule of thumb (and therefore not always accurate) is if they stay white then they are infertile, if they change colour then they're fertile. My angels eggsalways stayed white and then fungussed as they were infertile...

Celebes Rainbow Suddenly Gasping, Shaking Head And Bent At Back

Well, unfortunately the little fishy passed away today . Over the last few days his blue stripe had gradually got darker and he was not swimming quite right. When I got back from work I checked on them (as you do) and eventually found him deceased. When I got him out it was obvious that his back...

    Small Filter Advice Please

Sorry, I didn't put that too well, it was the streams of bubbles bursting on the surface that I was thinking about causing the vibration. I suppose I can always try one, it'll come in handy for fry tanks if it's no good for the frogs and they're not expensive.. Without the spraybar I could...

    Another Rainbow Id Please :d

The problem is that the breeders they come from mix them up in the tanks as many juvie rainbows look alike, particularly the females! They are usually named as whatever the shop has bought them as but are very rarely full blood with the most likely true ones being the bosemani, lacustris and...

    Small Filter Advice Please

Yeah, I looked at the U1 but wasn't sure whether the flow could be turned down sufficiently. There is so little flow that you can barely see the movement of the water and I think the U1 is rated for a tank twice the size which would be great in any other situation but leads me to think I may...

    Small Filter Advice Please

Hi, I have just set up a 28l tank for my 3 African Dwarf frogs. At the moment I'm running a Rena Filstar 100 in there but it's the one I normally keep as an emergency spare as it doesn't stick to the glass for long! I'm looking for advice on a small internal with an adjustable flow rate as the...

Well, I've heard of The Colour of Magic.... Anyway, as far as I know white faeces is a sign of internal parasties/bacteria but I don't know about the shaking, maybe it hurt to pass?

Thanks, I've hollowed the moss balls out as 'caves' but I'm a little concerned that they may fall forward and trap them inside. Mind you, if they fall forward then the back will open up so they'll be able to get out . There's still some work to do, there is a small piece of wood floating at the...

    Aquatic Pet Peeves?!?!

+1 for this +1 for the price of aquatic stuff and the lfs staff who couldn't care less and sell fish with the tank they're going in. I also hate the people who think that the best thing to do with a fish you don't want is to flush it down the toilet. Plus those farting diver bubblers! Each to...

    Stocking Question

You will find that the fish will eat all the frog's food and keeping them in a community tank can be hard work as you end up having to hand feed them. I inherited one and after a while of trying to keep him well fed with my community I have now got him his own tank. Just food for thought...

    What An Afternoon!

My local MA is attached to a Wyevale garden centre and they have a 'no amphibian' policy. Also after seeing the stock at St Albans, it makes my local one's stock look far inferior!
