    *URGENT* PLEASE HELP NITRITE/AMMONIA SKPIKE

what kind of substrate do you have, and how much? (Like inches of substrate from bottom to surface) Also, what size is the tank and what fish do you have? I agree with Byron as depending on how you syphon for example if it is gravel could cause a big crash in the cycle since it has only been...

    FYI

Yeah seapora was at my LFS but the marineland tank I found on Facebook market at a good price you can always try to buy one second hand but it is risky

    FYI

I’m just saying the experience that I had with them and also other people just for caution. It seemed like it was that specific model or Batch that was awful. I’ve had marineland for my 10g and 29g and I replaced the one that leaked with a brand called seapora that has been amazing.

    FYI

I would avoid getting a large aqueon tank. I got a 55 or 65 gallon from them because it was on sale and after a few weeks the tank ended up leaking. Luckily that day I had off of school as I was the only one home and was able to save my fish and also from the room being drenched. I saw later...

    Which water conditioner to use?

Yeah my water is treated with chloramines which is why I use prime. I had a discussion with @Byron about my 29G always showing ammonia while my 75G did not, and I turned my 29G to planted and the ammonia is now at 0, likely was showing chloramines form the tap as when I tested my tap separately...

    Is my tank getting ich

Update on this situation in case anyone else is going through the same thing. I didn’t start a heat and salt treatment as recommended and the spot on the rainbow fish went away with no new spots. My severum still has some white patch/bump that has been on his fin for months almost like a birth...

    Which water conditioner to use?

Hello all, So I read a thread that was on the forum where some people discussed water conditioners benefits and disadvantages and I had some questions I currently use prime, but I saw some people say it was not the best for planted tanks as it can remove some of the nutrients plants need like...

What does IQ mean to you?

For me personally I don’t think it matters at all. Even by definition (from what I know) it’s said as a way to measure intellectual capacity, but that does not mean that person has enough knowledge to fill that capacity. For instance, if you can carry 10 apples, but actually only carry 8, but...

    Stocking question

I do have the omega one shrimp pellets that I also feed my syno but the pellets seems really large would they still be able to eat it? I occasionally feed the mollies brine shrimp so they get a little protein which the cories seem to enjoy too. I definitely get your point with the heater I...

    What filter should I get?

I have two aquaclears filters. On my 29 gallon (110L) I run a up to 50 gallon rated (190L) and it does great. It’s currently $32 on Amazon

Betta Fish Sick with Ich and Fin Rot... Please Help!

First, what is the medication you were using and how long. Typically with ich most would recommend trying the heat and salt method before going to medication. Second, do you have an air pump in there? He is likely at the surface because the medication makes him get less oxygen from the water...

    Stocking question

I lowered my heater as it was only set at 75 and the room temperature is at 70 so not sure how it got up to 78 for the tank but I turned it down a lot. Would getting that large amount overcrowd the tank? My GH if I remember correctly is around 160 (I forget the unit)

    Peacock cichlid head marks

    Stocking question

Apologies not swordtails I meant sailfins, which also get big just like the sword tails. I will definitely snap a picture later today of him if he will cooperate and not swim away from the camera. This is also my first time having mollies I had 2 platies in the past back when I only had a 10...

    Peacock cichlid head marks

Does is look like indented or is it more of a surface think like color wise? I have South American cichlids and my severum and EBA sometimes went at it and they have some marks on them similar to that but smaller.
  19. Stefan3289

    Stocking question

Yeah I’ve read that they can get quite big. I have 2 swordtails they likely will get big. If they do start to grow very big I will likely donate them or see if someone would like to have them around. The one is very pretty he is a dark orange with a purple tint almost.

What hidden gems have you found

I have a group of Polar blue Parrot convict cichlids that I nicknamed Jelly beans. They are very active and can have such a beatiful and deep color. Also have more a temperament of a parrot cichlid as they are nice to other cichlids but can get fin nippy with their own. Here’s some pics of mine...

    Is my tank getting ich

Last time I treated a few years ago there were many spots on all the fish I tried to do the salt and heat but it was not working so I resorted to the medication which worked. Black neon problem

I’ve had a few fish do this over the years I’ve kept fish and they have never recovered. I saw some people speculate it might be because of running carbon in the filter constantly which I have since removed from my filter a while ago except the rare instances I had to treat with medicine. It’s...

    Is my tank getting ich

Hello all, I just was starting my weekly water change on my 75 South American cichlid tank and I noticed one of my rainbow fish has a white bump on her side. My severum has had a white bump on his fin for a few weeks but he is fine I am not sure what that is as he shows no other symptoms. I...

    Fin rot?

It could definitely be because of the high nitrate/nitrite. Is your tap water normally high in it? Also how long have you had him as over time it could cause fin rot from a build up of bacteria
  29. Stefan3289

    Is my Cory sick?

What % of the water do you change and how often? I also see you have gravel how do their bristles look? Also, have you measured the Gh of your water before?

That nitrate is quite high usually above 10 is already bad. What % of what changes did you do

Complete make-over of 10g tank - Will my platies be happy in there?

I think that they would love it there. As for other fish, I think personally shrimp would not be the best idea as the platys might view them as a snack rather than a companion especially if they are more full grown, but I would see what others say about larger shrimp as that might work. As for...

my shark fish wont leave my electric blue jack dempseys alone

I used to have an electric blue jack Dempsey in my large cichlid tank and he passed away quite shortly. I was not sure why as he was eating well, water parameters all well, no one was bothering him, but I found out that a lot of the electric blue jack dempsys do not survive to adult hood...

    Fin rot?

I am not an expert with fish diseases so I hope someone else will come to chime in but what are your water parameters and how did you do the water changes (rough %)? If your water parameters are good and you use medicine my first line of thought would be to use melafix as it would be less...

Just added plants, advice for cleaning and maintaining?

Yep I put the fish back in and they look very happy especially now without the artificial plants they have some more space to swim. And will do I have about 3” of gravel for the plants so I will then only syphon the top like you said especially being careful around them. Thank you!

Just added plants, advice for cleaning and maintaining?

Yea they are still chilling in the bucket I will go ahead and add them back. As for cleaning the substrate, how should I go about around the plants as I don’t want to damage their roots but I don’t want to leave poop around the floor near them?

Just added plants, advice for cleaning and maintaining?

Hello all, I talked a lot to @Byron on a separate form that was relating to one of my sick mollies about plants as well, but I decided I make a new forum so others can also find it easier I have just added some water sprite and cryptocoryne to my 29 gallon tank with mollies. What I did was...

Molly spinning and laying on side

There is no direct sunlight but there is natural light in the room that will slowly light up the room around is what I meant. I’ll then try to get some of those surface plants and see how that works. Which one do you think would be the easiest to care for out of the few you listed.

Molly spinning and laying on side

That’s a really interesting article I never thought that fish were that drastically affected by light. With both my tanks, they are close to windows so first the sun comes up before I turn on my fish lights and later at night when I do then turn off my fish lights theres usually another light...

Molly spinning and laying on side

I have never had plants before so this will be my first time. I use Prime as my water conditioner. I am not sure what fertilizer you mean as well.
