    Slimmed Down Fish Room Journal

Got the one 20L emptied yesterday. So sad the only thing in there was one purple pangio loach. I know the loaches were declining though water quality was always good. Unsure why my hendra wild Betta also died, mysteries of the tank world. 🤷‍♀️ I managed to catch my little betta, Dandelion...

    Slimmed Down Fish Room Journal

So the 75 gallon has been emptied of all fish. We had to take the Pavos to Fish Planet so the tank still has the couple plants that survived the plecos and water in it. Took the plants and decor out of the 20 L that was the pangio loach tank. There maybe some anchor cats in the tank but I...

    What are you doing today?

Little bit of a latest start, but today I will be breaking down the 75, the Pavos eels will be going to Fish Planet; the dojos, Borneo eel, royal pleco, and danios will be going to 125 and the common pleco to the acrylic 120. Depending on how fast it goes 🤞I may tackle the two 20L tanks as well...

    Badger's Tea Garden

Impressive tank, love the waterfall and future home for the frogs. Those sand loaches are adorable, what big personalities.

    Small tank recommendations please 😊

Tying is a lot better than the glue. IME the glue tends to fail and the plant just pops off the rock or wood.

    F x 6 filter

Looks good. I have removed the red strainers in my FX4s and FX6, it allows a little more bio media to fit. That black sponge with the ridges isn't carbon. There is a black carbon floss disc that I have never used.

    5 gallon shrimp tank

Well you can do one of two things. First plant the heck out of it initially as susswasertang is a little slower growing. Second is to set the tank up without shrimp for a few months and use a shrimp safe fertilizer ( I know Thrive sells one) and a good 8-10 hour light regimen to encourage...

Are hillstream loaches "outgoing" enough to put in my barb tank, with the Tinfoils???

My farowella is more robust than my other whiptails. I would recommend them as well. Hillstream loaches are territorial to each other and other species. They are outgoing but will battle each other for territory. Sometimes the stress is too much for the other party.

    Dipping Into The Salty Side

Well brown slime infested the 12 gallon and I was able to save a turbo snail and my tiger conch but the little rainbows are gone and the other snails as well as the two larger corals too. I am hoping one of the corals will come back, but 99% sure it's a goner as well. They are in my 10 gallon...

    Dipping Into The Salty Side

So I have been thinking about consolidating some tanks... Currently I have the 10 gallon with my clown, eye spot goby, pistol/goby pair, urchin, (hopefully) 3 bubble anemone, bubble coral and asst snails and live rock. Filters are 1 Azoo 150 HOB and a Fluval canister ( the smallest one set up...

Fun Facts We Didn't Need To Know

Yes, each pod has their own culture... It absolutely amazing! Look at the one pod where the matriarch is teaching the others to damage rudders. We would be in big trouble if other whale/large ocean species decided they had enough of our BS on their waters.

    UV... any down sides???

it wasn't part of the tidal, it was a small enough UV sterilizer that we could put it in the tidal so that we didn't blind the fish.
  18. Boundava

    UV... any down sides???

I'm not sure. like I said, a bit too coincidental for me. Gobies, hillstream loaches, school of danios and a pleco. Thriving and then dead after adding UV to tank. The last three gobies were not doing well but slowly came back. You can see them in the 40 breeder in the video I just uploaded...

    UV... any down sides???

Yeah, everyone was healthy the night before. The UV was the only new addition to the tank, so logically we couldn't think of anything else that would have caused multiple fish to die overnight.
  20. Boundava

Do you bury your fish when they pass away?

Depends... A tetra would be flushed or trashed if dead. A Betta would be buried, pleco buried, eel, cichlid, other larger more personable fish that have been with me long enough to have interaction or relationship. Don't recommend flushing any sick fish. should make sure the fish is dead and...

    UV... any down sides???

Sis had a bad infestation of algae in her 40 breeder and so we thought that if we put a UV light in the Tidal filter, which is black plastic, that we could help eliminate the algae issue. The next day a vast majority of the fish in the tank were dead. I'm not sure if it's related but we quickly...

Where do fish go when they die(Serious question)

With plecos in almost all of my tanks, any MIA fish are assumed fish food. Fish, snails and shrimp are very opportunistic so unless you're able to see the fish die/find the dead fish relatively soon after death you can bet it was disposed of by the tank's inhabitants.

To clarify, the barbs went into the 125, the Dojo and weather loaches went into the 75 which has the Pavo and Borneo eels (as well as a common pleco, a royal pleco, a black paradise fish and some danios), and I had an opaline gourami with a superiority complex that we put in the 40 breeder with...

    Slimmed Down Fish Room Journal

So I don't know if any of you remember about the 120 gallon and the broken brace? Well my sister went downstairs to feed the fish this morning and found water on the floor. Possibly 10 to 20 gallons of water slowly making its way to our floor drain. It was coming from that 120 gallon tank. So...

    Pre cycled filter media

RE the Sicce Tidal filters...I have/had 7on 4 different tanks (40breeder, two on a 75 gallon, 120, and 125). So if you have plants and/or a lot of floating debris I would recommend you don't go with the Tidal as the surface skimmer feature can become problematic once it's cloged with debris. I...

Well the tiny pseudomugil actually spawned on the rocks yesterday, didn't have my phone and had to run to work so no pics. Sis bought spawning mops yesterday...yes they are easy to DIY but 1) no time to get yarn, and 2) what do we do with all the extra yarn...?

Yeah, I can't put a name to the pool/pond, lol. Sis and I are doing well, keeping busy with the fresh and saltwater tanks. We were thinking on maybe going to Daytona in December for Aquasella, but not 100% on that. Hope you and your family are also doing well.

Thanks for the information, however it seems to say what everyone else is saying that I was reading. The fact that they start out as males and they revert to females when there is a lack of a female in a group. Nowhere does it stay when you have a single male if they will spontaneously change...

Breeder sponge for Aquis 1250 filter

Yes sponge covering your intake is a good option. If you can't find something that's specifically made to cover your intake you can try to make your own. Just cut a piece of sponge or even filter media like the blue and white one would work and just wrap the intake and you can either tie it off...

    Putting in nature

Yes you can use many different types of leaves in your aquarium even other things like alder cones and banana wood or other dried pods. Tannin aquatics sells a lot of natural items that you can place on your tank. Keep in mind that that will also change the water parameters, it can lower the pH...

    What are you doing today?

So today I finally got a chance to do a water change on my 125 gallon, my 120 gallon acrylic, and my sister's 120 gallon. I had cut up a watermelon earlier so I brought some pieces down for the fish. I also bought Hippie my box turtle a Boston fern so I took advantage of the time it took to...

Can Anyone Tell Me Whether My Golden Dojo Loach Is a Male or Female?

So it's hard to tell from your picture. Females are much bigger than males. Males will use their front fins to kind of like do push-ups in the sand they will hold the front part of their body over the substrate where females usually lay flat on the substrate. Hope this helps. Also they are...

So big changes happen today in the fish room well some of them happened last night too. Last night when I got home from work I wound up taking down well not entirely taking down but removing the bettas from the four or five gallon fish tanks that I had. The last fish tank on the left had my...
