    Dipping Into The Salty Side

So I added some corals to the tank. Photos from last night. Excuse my spelling... Spaghetti finger coral (leather, they sold out of Devil's Hand). It's the tall one by the intake. In the front left in the photo is a lobophyllia (also first photo below)and to the right is a clove polyp (also...

can plants grow in fine sand?

I have not had any issues growing plants in sand. As for the extra sand. Just spread it in your grass or garden, no need to store it.

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

The newest vaccine should be coming out after the 12th, there is a final review. If you are debating waiting, don't. The old booster is not effective-like sugar water, the new vaccine will have more updated variants. I am not looking forward to next week as I vaccinate in our pharmacy and flu...

How do you get rid of surface plants?

Eradicating duckweed is hard, as mentioned above. It is harder if you have multiple tanks because it just takes one to infest. Dedication and determination as well as a lot of time is what you need to tackle duckweed. Clean as much of it as you can from the surface and walls and look daily to...

Yeah, Barnabus is quite the character. Love that when I watch him(her?), s/he watches me back.

    Dipping Into The Salty Side

Lol, so yesterday I finally switched the 10 gallon to a 20L. Tank went from a 5, to 10 and now 20. This is going to be as big as it gets. I kept the majority of the sand (except for the bits covered with cyano), the live rock, any snails in the sand and large enough for me to see, my bleni-...

    Black sand… suggestions

Black sand is not usually found with many of the species we keep in the hobby so their natural camouflage won't work which is why they become stressed.

    Dipping Into The Salty Side

I have been running a reverse UGF for a while with the 10 gallon and have had no issues with debris build up. I will be adding a snail only clean up crew for the tank as well, a lot of the snails will be cleaning the substrate where the others will be focused on algae and cyano cleanup. Also...

    Dipping Into The Salty Side

I broke down two 20L tanks and will be using one to upgrade my 10 gallon saltwater. I am going to keep my current live rock and re-home the camel shrimp so I can add some corals (mushrooms, devil's hand...) to the tank. I have the Fluval 107 set up for reverse UGF. I wil be modifying the...

    What are you doing today?

Having some coffee before tackling the other 20L. This one has the ninja wood cats and an assortment of small tetras that used to be in my 6g. The ninjas are going into the 120 and the small tetras in the 125 because the cichlids in the 120 will mistake them as snacks, lol. Then the tank...

    Cracked shell in mystery snail?

Hmm, never had that issue with cuttlebones and my snails would pile up on them. I did break them up into nickle-quarter sized bits and secured them by suction cup clip or even crazy glue to a rock.

    What are you doing today?

I am working on transferring my 3 gallon into the enpty 20L. Some issues with needing more substrate and my recycling filter idea not working so I went out a bought the Topfin Pro 30 for the tank. Was moving the red footed floaters out and noticed they are flowering! Hope they do as well...

    Cracked shell in mystery snail?

So the vacation food bits should be added when your not feeding anything else otherwise you can have issues with overfeeding. Cuttle bones (found in bird section of pet store) is another source of calcium. It will float so you can break off a little bit and use a clip to anchor it to the side...

I've not seen this filter before... are they new??? have you tried one??? are they any good???

I have had several of the tidal filters; two 75 and two 110. I agree they are powerhouses and the way they are setup they do not need to be refiled after weather change or power outages like many other HOB filters need to. Also the media is customizable, no disposable cartridges. I have to...

Unfortunately I don't have the code for 7, it was so long ago I am unsure where it and my other computer tools/leftover supplies are since I moved twice since building my first gaming PC. Thanks for the tip though! Currently waiting for windows to finish downloading but I plugged her in and...

Which live plant would you recommend for betta fry so I can give them infusoria

Any leaf litter safe for aquariums would work as well. Just monitor the water parameters as it can soften your water.

    Return to UGF

Interested in the UGF for saltwater. Have one hooked up to my Fluval canister filter in my 10 gallon. Just found an old school pump that can push water into the UGF so will be upgrading the 10 gallon to a 20L with the UGF setup with the canister filter on one end and the pump on the other...

    Anaerobic sand?

Well two options (3 of you feel you need to) 1. Don't disturb the sand bed, any possible pockets of noxious gasses are currently trapped. 2. Get a substrate dwelling invert like (GULP) Malaysian trumpet snails. They do a great job burrowing in and cleaning up substrate. So long as you don't...

    What are you doing today?

So with every intent to do my online study course for the exam I watched on horror as my (coming up to 8 year) old PC would not boot past the BIOS screen. I have the components to build a new one for about a month, but was going to do it after my test. No such luck as I spent most of yesterday...

Moving to a new house and taking all our tanks (5)

So I have moved with fish twice. First time was a 75 gallon and some smaller (5-20) nano fish tanks. I took advantage of the black storage bins at Home Depot, they comunup to 50 gallons, though I chose the 27 gallon size for transport. I was moving Cory, tetras, rainbow fish and honey goirami...

    Madagascar Lace...

Good substrate, water flow, adequate lighting and at the time I had three of them (with one flowering) I was using CO2 and dry fertilizers. They are pretty demanding and if you don't fill their needs you can blink and they will go dormant/die. Also if you have plecos, they love to rasp on the...
