    Liquid fertilizer and dirt substrate

I dose a small amount every other day and have had great success if i do say so myself:). Seachems works great. You need to try it- then tell me what happens. I havent had any problems with fish or green algae since going to iron. You only need a small amount and what's good about Seachems is...

    Liquid fertilizer and dirt substrate

This what ive found after 50 years of plant keeping..iron is all you need. If you feed your fish? That and poop provide all the rest- more than enough in fact most of the time. Try just iron. Watch plants thrive.

I did say that there is zero chance those fish and shrimp would survive away from the creek. So,its like a fun thing I thought. Here's a good one with swaths off Cryptocoryne crispatula and other plants.

They way they tell it..it's a coal plant in Germany. But in Austria, its a natural warm spring. I could be wrong going on comments to the various vids and poor google translation.

    On Guppybach videos.

Here you go Colin. This is Warmbach in Austria-note the heavy plant growth and clear water. Guppybach in Germany is milky waters, few plants. Both are tropical all year. There are at least 10 vids on these two little creeks. I was banned from Planted Tank for a vid like this one. Just weird how...

About the various vids about a tropical stream in Germany? Turns out there are TWO such streams..one is natural in Austria and has thick growths of aquatic plants and then you have the German tropical stream that is fed by a coal mine and has milky waters, few aquatic plants. Both though are...

Stan's freshwater 240 gallon extravaganza. Trials and tribulations of a sunlit aquarium

That photo is my last attemped!..got to wait until early morning or sunset for the flash. Without it,everything looks low def. Wouldn't you know it,my Canon camera wont let me use flash unless its dim lighting.

Stan's freshwater 240 gallon extravaganza. Trials and tribulations of a sunlit aquarium

You might have had some kind of cyano but BGA for sure wait for warm nutrient water to come along. Even in local waters the cyano are no problem in winter but once warm water comes along, come the warnings to stay out of the water. It seems to me cooler water gets the aquarium plants an edge...

Stan's freshwater 240 gallon extravaganza. Trials and tribulations of a sunlit aquarium

We had a ferocious heatwave that shot up the temperature in my aquarium to 84f+. BGA showed up. Now that I have it down to 76f,BGA is spotty and I can see not spreading. Of course I removed what I could find so it's looking good again. Something about warm water is a trigger for BGA,keep that...

    I'm done

Sometimes I see the guy who keeps all types of ants in Canada or did until his channel made him enough moola to build a home in the central american jungle. I don't follow all that close..it could be a second home. Anyways,a good use for an old aquarium could be an ant colony.

    When to thin?

I've reached my limit in the 240G low tech. But,when you thin out a low tech's plants? It's not a recovery in 2 short weeks..it can take months for plants to refill. Yet,my Rainbows and loaches could use a bit more open space. Do you go by looks or ? to decide how much? Darn thing is..it LOOKS...

Can't find albino Giant Danio anywhere.

They used to be as common as the normal colored Danios and didn't even cost much more if that. My LFS guy said they are like hens teeth these days. Blake on youtube just got an aquarium the same size as mine and plans on going Rainbows, barbs and loaches- same as me from four years ago now. They...

Size terra-cotta pot for cryptocoryne lutea?

That C.balansae went from one single plant to about 100 in over two years..it was the cumulative root systems that split a quality glazed pot at the corner. Its rampant..if you want rampant ? Its the one.

Can't find albino Giant Danio anywhere.

In other parts of the country are they as hard to get here near San Francisco? Haven't seen them in years when they were as common as dirt 20 years ago or less.

Feed heavy before adding new fish to established aggressive fish tank.

Ohio Fish Rescue is trying to keep two Arapaimas together in their world famous converted indoor swimming pool. I noticed in the vid a no-no,they hadn't fed the huge resident Arapaima to his fill when they put the not even half sized new Arapaima. A no-no as the big guy took a bite out of the...

Can aquatic plants live without light?

If you don't have a light...its like fish without a full tank of water "Hey look,i have 2" of water in my 20 inch deep aquarium." "Fish look stressed" !!! Why not wait until you get a light that grows plants? ALL you will be doing to even the hardiest plants is weakening them to the point...

You might like moving the wood to the center of the tank. Sort of the classic Ikebana seen in natural aquariums. Americans call it cow horns look.

Size terra-cotta pot for cryptocoryne lutea?

4" pot clay or plastic will do. Plastic with no drainholes will keep the plant from rooting into the substrate. But,maybe you might want that- gives a bigger plant in a smaller area. I use to grow plants in pots all the time. Even these days I keep C. balansae from taking over my whole aquarium...

Iron does for low tech what Co2 does for high tech.

I rarely add potassium these days. The chelate in the iron does something and my Java ferns are getting enough potassium from feeding the fish. The iron helps convert the potassium looks like.

Iron does for low tech what Co2 does for high tech.

I'm bringing it back!..You'd be surprised at how often the problems cure from experts involves so many changes to the newbys plant aqua angst when adding iron is all they needed to do. Its dosing it over the weeks that it really becomes something you can never stop doing or go back to runty...

Iron does for low tech what Co2 does for high tech.

Now,I'm getting outrageous growth out of my plants, great color and its from every other day dosing of iron. Alternanthera is redder and thriving since going to the more often dosing. Swords are giant plants now especially the Ozelot red with huge paddle leaves. Fish love to swim under or through...

Not sure if in right place for this..

That's true- the other guy's plant was in Singapore and probably was a much better cultivar as it looked very yellow and green. Something like a Croton. My Marble here has about a half dozen young plants on flower spikes.

    Large fish for planted tank

Uarus are big but not much at tearing up plants. Altum Angelfish get pretty big and are not a problem with plants. Sometimes Severums ignore sword plants..depends on each fishes personality I guess and if you give them some kind of balanced foods. 55 gallons is not that large and you might be...

    Black beard Algae help!!!!

What defeats BBA is QUALITY lighting- color and amount and also healthy fast growing plants. They suck the nutrients that BBA needs. Underplanted aquariums get BBA when the lighting is intense-right? But if its the right lighting and you plant up the tank thickly,BBA starts to go away.

Not sure if in right place for this..

I'm going to try growing 'Marble Queen' in a pot outdoors. I saw a photo of one grown that way here on FF a few weeks ago and the amount of yellow in the leaves was electric. A drainless pot, potting soil and no need for a cap. Something different. The plant will be a pup of a Marble Queen...

    Charcoal / Carbon

Water changes are the standard thing to do in fish aquariums. It's hard to explain that when you have a planted aquarium with fish (light loads) frequent water changes work against you unless you dose all the micro and macro's you took out. So what's the point of making big water changes? That's...

    Charcoal / Carbon

If you do regular water changes,no need for carbon. IF, you are stretching out the changes because you have a great plant to fish balance? Then a cup or two of carbon acts like a water change..sweetens the sparkle and the Rainbows will spawn in the mornings like you had made a water change...
