    Guppies died within 24 hours

The guppies I've gotten from a LFS and a Petco recently have all gotten sick and died as of recent. I managed to keep one of them. The Petco employee said most of the guppies they have been getting in die after they get them. She blamed it on the heat. I'm not going for guppies for a while. I...

I've gotten a bit lost with my cycle

I've had the same issue. I switched to use baffels on my large tanks that use HOB filters. On smaller tanks I use this Aquarium Biochemical Sponge Filter Here's a way to make a homemade baffel. Make an airline tubing ring I really like these 3D printed baffels...

I've gotten a bit lost with my cycle

As mentioned in the Planted/silent cycling thread on this forum, once you see growth on your plants in a planted cycle you are good to add fish. There's a bit more reading below the quoted so I'd suggest checking that out as well. Below quote from...

    Weird PH liquid test readings

I've started recently using this as well, and it's nice because you don't have to use liquids to test. Digital pH tester Make sure to follow instructions about soaking in distilled water if sensor hasn't been used in a while or is dry.

Maybe she was just disturbed by the skimmer and needs to get used to it.

My first saltwater tank - Aqueon Frameless Cube Aquarium, 3 Gallon

After several water changes and cleaning out the existing algae, and reducing the light throughout the day the algae issue is under control. The Kenya Tree is doing better as well. Growing a bit more each day.

Curious… do you cover your tanks???

I went to feed my betta today and he jump right out the tank. Picked him up off the floor and put him back in and he ate then. Definitely a cover on that tank. I do have a small 5 gallon Tetra Cresent tank with 2 young guppy and don't have a lid on it because the light I have for it wouldn't...

    Water change routine

Sure, and that is why I stick to changes at least every two weeks.

    Water change routine

I usually never let a tank go for two weeks without a water change. But will wait those two weeks as long as water paramters are good. Nitrates is usually what dictates if I need to do a water change and the % of water I change. Some of my tanks have higher nitrates then others so require more...

    Water changes and fish

I assume your source water is cold then? You would need to put a heater to the cold source water before adding to the tank. In my case the water is way too warm so have to ice it down first. At least during the summer months.

    Weird PH liquid test readings

Not sure why you are saying your API tests are incorrect. Essjay said in this thread already that your high range API test reads 7.4 pH. The low range API test reads at around 6.8 pH from what I can tell (the lighting there is a shadow on the color card so it's hard to tell really by the pic you...

    Need a new tool…

Maybe this would work. I've used it for a while for my small pond. And works great if you have a tank low to the ground and can't rely on gravity to drain the water. NICREW Power VAC Plus Electric Gravel Cleaner, Automatic Aquarium Cleaner with Sponge Filter, 3 in 1 Aquarium Vacuum Gravel...

My first saltwater tank - Aqueon Frameless Cube Aquarium, 3 Gallon

There's no fish, it's a 3 gallon so really can't have fish. The tank is a couple months old. I feed the corals reef roids once per week and very little at that. I also dose about once per week with Seachem Reef Plus. Again, like 5 drops worth so very little. I'm going to try and cut back on the...

My first saltwater tank - Aqueon Frameless Cube Aquarium, 3 Gallon

So, I've got quite the algae issue now. I've tried messing with lowering the light but the Kenya Tree needs more so I've got it at a setting that I think it's able to adjust to now. I've put in 3 turbo snails recently and they are doing a great job. I probably need a few more of them tbh. The...

    My mystery snail is floating??

I've had mystery snails die when I first obtained them while other live for a long time. Sometimes they are already sick and not sure if there is much you can do about it.
  22. Ram419

    Fish keep dying

I only use 3 gallon for raising fry or quaratine for a single small adult fish for a short amount of time. Shrimps and snails would work in it too. Should go for at least 5 gallon but better if 10 gallon if you can. About using both API Strees Coat and a regular water conditioner at the same...

    What is this?

I'm thinking diatoms as well. I had it pretty bad on decor in a couple tanks for a while but adding live plants seemed to stop it the most.

Vegetables suitable for a blue mystery snail (Pomacea Bridgesi)?

I've had success with blanched kale and green beans (unsalted), no need to blanch. I've tried cucumber but no interest.

    My tank Ciano 60 aqua

I use Seachem Root tabs and when needed API Leaf Zone. Although many on the forums suggest a more comprehensive liquid supplement such as the following: Seachem's Flourish Comprehensive Supplement for the Planted Aquarium Brightwell Aquatics' FlorinMulti Aqaruimcoop's Easy Green All-in-One...

    My tank Ciano 60 aqua

Yeah, I just scooped some sand and tried best to float most closer to bottom. You'll end up having some float on top of water but you just have to slap it with you hand to have it sink. I had fish in the tanks at the same time so was careful not to bury them.
  28. Ram419

    My tank Ciano 60 aqua

No, I did have issues with plants in pebble gravel only tanks. I ended up floating sand into the pebbles and the plants now stay and grow much better.
  29. Ram419

    New driftwood

Yeah, I almost suggested the tub idea. If you can, I'd suggest buying a large plastic tub/container box for things like this.
  30. Ram419

    New driftwood

Give it a try it may work. I had to wash that stuff off more then a few times before it went away completely.
  31. Ram419

    New driftwood

No, I wouldn't do that. Just take some of the tank water out and put into a bucket. A clear container is even better so you can see the white slime easier. Then use a brush to brush it off. Brush should only be used for cleaning tank.

Calcium “rocks” for shrimp, snails, and crabs, after transitioning to RO water????

Seems simliar to this JOR Shrimps, Isopods, Crayfish, and Snails Rocks, 3.5 Ounce, which I've used in my 10 gal shrimp tank and my 20 gal that has 2 mystery snails. --> JOR Shrimps, Isopods, Crayfish, and Snails Rocks, 3.5 Ounce I've only put a few rocks in the smaller tank and several in the...

I've always boiled my driftwood before using so never had a lot of tannins in the water.

I need to help my snail

Calcium rich foods. So try blanched kale leaves or cucumbers and unsalted green beans in addition to the algae wafers. I feed my mystery snails and red cherry shrimp at least once per week, usually green beans.
  37. Ram419

    Snails????

Most of my tanks have baldder snails. They have never really become a big prob and they do as you say and help the tanks. Most also share space with mystery snails or nerite snails and/or red cherry shrimp. So perhaps a little mixture keeps the balance as well. My outdoor pond has many bladder...

    Tank temperature plummeting

Yup, that is what I use it for primarily. Usually the water is too hot so I throw ice in the bucket to cool it down. Using the infrared thermometer to adjust until correct temp.

    Tank temperature plummeting

I would suggest getting something like an infrared thermometer to spot check temps. I've found it invaluable.
