    Stocking advice

Dither fish, Danios always make good dither fish. Cherry barbs would be ok as mid level tankmates as they arent as aggressive as tiger barbs. If one goes with cherry barbs they need to be 3 females for every 1 male. Your soft water is suited for most tetras so maybe some larger tetras like...

    Stocking advice

Its not the Kribs one need worry about its the Angels. Angels are slow moving and have longer fins, the Kribs will have zero problems chasing nipping and bullying the Angels. Kribs and Angels in the same tank is just asking for trouble on both ends and stress for them and you, stressed fish are...

    Stocking advice

Id rehome the Angels. Angels are a shoaling fish that belong in groups of at least 6 which require at least a 100 gallon tank. Not only that but once they reach breeding age they will be super territorial and aggressive to other fish in tank, which for now are Kribs which are also territorial...

Green spot algae... how do I treat this stubborn stuff?

As far as algaes go green spot algae is one of the less problematic algaes, decreasing length or intensity of light will usually effectively decrease growth of green spot algae. Scrubbing with an aquarium sponge is effective and having snails that clean glass will help manage the film on glass...

Question about stocking levels in a 120litre

Not really. If one is worried about algae snails do an excellent job of algae management. I always suggest nerite snails as they eat alot of algae and dont reprodruce in freshwater. If ones water allows for they are effective algae management.

    Nice to meet you all

Blood fin tetra pair well with blue tetra as the blood fins have a similar fast active swimming style. Though its not a guarantee the blues wont chase them but blood fins are fast and active so might fare better. What RTBS??? Im either not familiar with that acronym or having difficulty...

Question about stocking levels in a 120litre

As all plecos theyre dirty fish as they expel alot of waste. If one wants one for algae eating they dont eat a ton and need wood to munch on and supplement with veggies as well. If one wants one just because theyre cool then yeah i think they are cool as well and they are still messy dirty fish...

How many discus in a 48 Gal tank?

Ideally a 48 is too small for discus as they are a shoaling fish that belong in groups and a 48 is way too small for a group of. discus. Most i would go is 2 in a bonded pair for breeding and thats it.

Platys are hard water fish neons are soft water fish. Gourami are also soft water fish. Depending on your water one or the other is going to struggle. Best to keep soft water fish in soft water hard water fish in hard water

Question about stocking levels in a 120litre

I dony think adding a BN pleco would be overstocking having said that id suggest getting more coydora before a pleco. Corydora live in large shoals and do better in large groups in tanks as well. While 5 is nice adding a few more would be of value to the corys.

    I QUIT!!!

Yeah its toughbwhen family smoke as well. Try talking to them asking if they would be willing to go on your stop smoking journey with you, strength in numbers, or if they arent willing to do that ask if they will at least try to not smoke around you to help you in your efforts in not smoking...

    I QUIT!!!

I used to teach stop smoking lessons from the AHA to people. Some of the things that i saw help others is getting rid of things that remind you of or give you the urge to smoke. Get rid of all cigarettes, lighters, ash trays, things like that. Dont hang around other smokers or places where you...

I need held identifying these 2 fish

The first one is gargantua the destroyer of all and the second is Godzillas mortal enemy raised from the spawns of hades, cant say Hell, its a bad word;) Id suggest housing another fish in a tank with gamma radiation and turn that fish into a " hulk" fish in hopes the hulk fish can protect you...

    reverse osmosis water for guppies

Seachem equilubrium is designed and marketed as a product to bring water to 7 dgh as seachem believes thats the opitimal water hardness for plants whixh is why equilibrium has the added potassium iron and manganese. Those 3 have nothing to do with hardness and are just in the mix for the benefit...

    Is this algae?

Brown algae is oftem most present in " new tanks" as far as algae goes its one of the easier algaes to manage as its easily removed manually or easily removed by fish or snails. Ive had 1 nerite snail clean a whole tank covered in brown algae over night. Dim light also contributes to brown...

    First Aquarium Photos!

Water changes are the best clean up crew! Having said that snails and shrimp do a good job of maintenance. I like nerite snails theyre super algae eaters and amano shrimp. As they are busy eating algae off leaves and surfaces. 7DGH is fine for both.

    Do Bio Stones work?

Dont waste your money, i use volcanic rock as a bio media because its porous inert and has a large surface area for beneficial bacteria. If one wants to use this in the filter as bio media for beneficial bacteria growth then there are cheaper alternatives, like a bag of lava rock. If one is...

    Hair and Beard Algae

I tended to get beard algae when my filter was dirty. Lots of organics can get stuck in tubing and filter media and such which in excess can contribute to algae. Giving the filter a good cleaning couldnt hurt. No need to use any chemicals which can be harmful, just plain old de chlorinated water...

    Hardness - words vs numbers

Im not sure in the US they categorize ppm or DGH as soft or hard, they just merely give either a ppm number or a DGH number. Having said that even if one comes to a consensus about what the numbers represent( soft- hard) the general consensus on what fish one can have in those water parameters...

Go to the fish store take all the fish back and all the useless product they gave you and demand your money back and never visit that store full of charleton con men again. If one cant do that i agree with previous posters. Do a large water change. Get rid of ph buffers and ammo lock and all...

    Adjusting my aquarium

When it comes to GH levels and what fish can handle or adapt to there are a wide array of opinions. Generally 7 dgh and below is considered soft 8-10 is moderately hard and greater than 10 is hard to very hard. Some soft water fish like corydora and especially pleco can adapt to moderately hard...

    Filter media questions

Ive found over the years that lava rock is effective at growing beneficial bacteria, its pourous with lots of surface area. Is inert so wont change water chemistry, its natural so doesnt contain any silicas like other plastic products, is light weight and best of all inexpensive. I usually buy a...

What to do with half brown sword leaves?

    reverse osmosis water for guppies

Most Rift lake salts have sodium chloride in them. Seachem cichlid salt uses magnesium chloride and calcium sulfate. It also has potassium and iron alumminum and selenium zinc and iodine which have nothing to do with GH or are needed for guppies. The easiest way to raise GH is by adding calcium...

    reverse osmosis water for guppies

Go to rotola butterfly calculator like i suggested earlier. GH is measure of calcium and magnesium. Calcium sulfate or chloride and magnesoum sulfate are all easily obtainable. What to do with half brown sword leaves?

True and if one cuts off the brown leaves the new ones will still get nutrients. I think the point i was attempting to make is cutting the old dying leaves isnt going to hurt the plant. The brown leaves once brown arent going to get green all the sudden, theyre already dead dying no amount of...

    reverse osmosis water for guppies

Go to rotolabutterfly.com they have a nutrient calculator one can use. Seachem equilibrium is meant to bring water to 7.0 dgh for planted tank. RO water of course is zero DGH so one would have to double the dose to get the DGH around 14 for livebearers. Or one can just purchase the ingredients...
