Depends on how big your tank is. Look at the lumens on it. General rule is 20-30 lumens/ liter for low light plants, 30-40 for medium and 50 and above for highlight plants. Also depends on the depth of the tank and the PAR @ substrate.

Substrate plants need 30 PAR at substrate level. PAR substrate charts can be found on line or go to rotalabutterfly light calculator and plug in the specs.Or you could drop $300 on a PAR meter. Higher PAR levels are usually easier to obtain in smaller shallower tanks. Hope this helps.

I wouldnt use excel. Its derived from a chemical sanitizer and isnt safe for fish and plants and is more likely to cause algae than deter it. Stick with the liquid fert and root tabs excel is a waste of money and will lead to more problems

Maybe im not quite sure. Normally plants will take all the extra nutrients they can get. I know some people have noted that dosing iron has killed floating plants like frog bit and i onow that some have noted that if condensation from the hood drips onto salvinia it can melt it.

Find the company of your light fixrure like finex or what ever or if youre using a bulb like cree or G.E and plug in the watts and lumens or whatever it asks and it should give you PAR and PAR at subatrate along with a few other measurements. Keep in mind its not perfect and is an estimate.

Black neons and glo lights in my opinion look really well together the colors really play off eachother and they do well together as well.
