    hungry tetras

I have also noticed when I drop shrimp pellets for my cory my tetras bite at it all the way down then spent a few seconds stilling going after it on the bottom. My cory swim in close and once the tetra leave the corys enjoy the pellets.

    Was wondering about play sand?

I switched one of my tanks from gravel to sand and I am happy with it. I added extra plants like hornwort to protect against a spike in ammonia. I placed all my fish in a plastic bucket with aerator and covered the bucket with a dark towel (fish went to sleep) I removed everything from the tank...

    Are these shrimp eggs?

Pond snails leave a clear jelly around their eggs, nerites snails leave white dots for eggs but will not hatch in freash water. Apple/mystery snails lay their eggs just above the water line.

    Are these shrimp eggs?

Pest snail-pond snail. I have them in my tanks. You can toss them or let them stay. I usually get rid of them

    Male or Female?

I would happily give you a couple female guppies if we lived close by. That is one thing my LFS never ran out of was guppies and you had to buy them in pairs M/F

    Help!!!!

Do you have a scraper? do large water changes to reduce the nutrients in the water, reduce the amount of light(time and intensity), reduce how much you feed your fish. Is the tank getting direct sun light that can also cause algae along with the other factors. Nerites snails can also help keep...

I attach them to my tree stumps, both anubias and crested java ferns, I am slowly moving some of my java ferns and replacing them with anubias.

Hello and welcome to the forum :fish: :hi: :fish:Great looking tanks and fish!

What’s going on with the Anubias?

For the swords have you tried using root tabs, I use flourish root tabs. The other members address the lighting which is another major factor. I use T-8 plant lights in my tanks since most of my tanks are older. Anubias is a slow growing plant so it takes time for changes to be noticed, I read...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

I still use UGF in one of my tanks and they do work very good. I had it also in my 55 gallon tetra tank until I switch from gravel to sand. As long as you do a good vacuuming of the gravel ever so often. My LFS also uses UGF in all his tanks for years. Sand will not work with a UGF unless you...

What’s going on with the Anubias?

All the plants you list except duckweed look good. I had issues with jungle val melting but other members have had good experiences with it. Anubias and swords I have had very good experience with. I am changing much of my Java ferns over to anubias plants in my 55 gallon tank. Java ferns are...

    Silent cycle turned fishless...

The thing with planted cycle is the plants do the heavy lifting when it comes to taking care of ammonia. The bacteria is only a secondary concern since the plants should absorb the majority if not all of the ammonia and eliminate in doing so the nitrates and nitrites. I would do a 50% water change.

What’s going on with the Anubias?

I would stay away from duckweed it tends to take over a tank and block out light for your plants. It is also hard to get rid of once it is in the tank. I have used salvinia and some frog bite as floaters. With the number of fish you have they should keep the plants well supplied with what they...

Fish Are Dieing Like Crazy! Help

    This thread is from 2017

How much water do you change and how often and for what? Readers want to know!

I do 20 gallon water change in my 55 gallon tank every Tuesday. 2 gallons treated tap and 18 gallons RO but I also leave about a two inch empty space below the normal water line so my floating plants get plenty of light so it come out closer to 45%-50%.

    Spawning Cherry Barbs

Thank you @fish48 for posting the pictures and the info, I was thinking of using marbles and also a UGF plate which has slots in it for the eggs to drop through. Since I was going to try breeding neon tetras which need darkness this would work (I hope) but for my ember and glow light tetras you...

Hello, New fish hobbyist, turn fish breeder by accident!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum :fish: :hi: :fish:Mollies, guppies and platys all seem to have a lot of fry. I have 12 platy fry that have grown big enough to give away. I alos have 20-30 guppy fry in my guppy tank. They reproduce like rabbits. I wish I could get my tetras to have a few fry.

    Spawning Cherry Barbs

Thank you,:snap: looks like you may have some eggs on the marbles. I plan on using marbles too along with a UGF panel to protect the eggs if I set up a separate breeding tank. I have almost given up on the sunk forest tank for any breeding. I have not seen hardly any mating compared to when I...

My name is Ravenes and I’m looking for stocking suggestions

As far as sand goes it is cheaper to buy sand box play sand than buying sand at a pet store. Most hardware stores like Fleetfarm, Menards and Lowes carry play sand. I use it in my soft water tetra and cory tank.

    New aquarium issue

It may be that the soil you have is releasing to much nutrients into the water causing the algae. Fast growing floating plants like frogbite can help and also doing water changes to reduce the nutrients. I do not use soil since in time it wears out. I use plant tabs for my rooted plants.

    New aquarium issue

It is not unusual for a new tank in become cloudy for a few days. It is a bacteria bloom that occurs and when the bacteria is done it will clear up as @ClownLurch correctly stated. If you are getting an algae bloom (green) that means you have too much light and/or too much nutrients in the water...

    I'm new

Welcome to the forum :fish: :hi::fish:@trash.binh91 is correct, you need to attach anubias to something or let it float. Here are some pictures of different types of anubias that I attched to tree stumps.

Rice paddies' dismal lack of hard-scape

All I remember about the rice paddies I had to cross was the mud, they were pretty clear of branches and rocks except along some of the outer walls.

    Peppered Corys in 125 Gallons

Ember tetras and very good community fish, they are small less then an inch when fully grown and tend to stick together most of the time. I hope to add to my small shoal of them and possibly moved them to a 30 gallon tank with other small fish like the rosboras in the future.
