Do you bury your fish when they pass away?

Nothing much different from a composter. Nobody would think twice about it. Also fish bones decompose completely, unless you used coffins made of thick wood there is not gonna be anything to find.

🐠 TOTM Vote Now - June 2023 Tank of the Month Contest (16 gal & smaller)

click on video below My daughter's Fluval Flex 15 gallons (currently cycling, only contains snails) Update: pictures from today. Tank is a all-in-one kit from Fluval, so nothing special there. Light is on a timer with 8 hours period, tank has been setup for 8 days, substrate is top soil mixed...

Do you bury your fish when they pass away?

I flush them. I have septic, so it's not at risk of infecting waterways. I can see the reason for buryal if it is a large fish that has been with you for many a year, but I keep mostly tiny fishes in large numbers, never big fishes in small numbers, so I have never been attached. I care for...

    Stocking recommendations?

I read about it and saw youtube videos saying this would happen, I did not directly experience that. in my previous experience I had another 60 gallon tank and there I had bolivian rams and harlequin rasboras with a few corys and otos. The rasboras shoaled beautifully, always compact, but I...

    Stocking recommendations?

Agree on angels. I asked because they were mentioned and because I was doubtful the tank had the appropriate space vertically. Some plants have just been planted and the tank is gonna be a lot fuller and bushier than it is now in about a month time. There is still gonna be a 30% of it free for...

    Stocking recommendations?

I think the more responsible choice might be juvenile bolivian rams and pair forming. Surface wise there would be space for 2 couples, but with the Corys in the mix maybe it's really only space for one pair

    Stocking recommendations?

Mmmmmm did not think about cory and territory for dwarf cyclids.. Also.. ehm... here I f-ed up: the cave dwarf cichlids might choose as shaded nesting site is also where the filter intake lives (hidden from sight). I might address the filter just with a sponge on the intake. My initial...

    The prisons we keep

Octopus are not fish. And some species are amongst the smartest animal in existence. But on the goldfish, don't think they had to drive stick, if you look at the experiment it's probably way less impressive than it sound. :) I bet your discus only made the connection "big shade moves, shade food".

should I trust this stand for my 20 gallon?

If you had 4 mdf shelf but only built it with 3x why did u ou not just double up the mdf on the aquarium shelf? You had one spare... Aquarium stands you buy are all mdf these days

    Stocking recommendations?

I thought that to be beneficial to both, hence why neons and cardinals and other tetras are so very often kept with cichlids, angelfish, discus etc. Can you point me to an article explaining the difference? Is it not what I said I want to do? * 8-10 corydoras (single species, going with Julii...

    The prisons we keep

Agree, but fish (most fish) are not really sentient creatures, they aren't able to understand they are in prisons. If the water parameters are good (which means no overcrowding) then it's ethically fine. Some fish require more space and numbers because they swim a lot, or because they are...

    Stocking recommendations?

I actually don't disagree with you. But it is quite a large tank and the 2 populations of otos and corys don't interact much with either each other or the tetras. And with the shrimp? I am actually fine if some fry get eaten by the tetras or other threats. It is an ecosystem after all. But to...

    Stocking recommendations?

I had neocaridinas in a heavily planted 40 gallons years ago, with 3 bolivian rams (2F 1 M) and some neons and the shrimp population EXPLODED, I stopped counting at 150 when I took them out from the tank to move. Hopefully that is what I am trying to reproduce (pun intended). I will keep the...

    Stocking recommendations?

I am looking for recommendations for this 60G breeder tank. Filter is a SunSun canister, water is full RO (because my well sucks) plus equilibrium and a bit of extra calcium chloride because I found my substrate (which is sand-capped top soil) is absorbing KH.Current parameters: PH 7, KH 4, GH...

    Hello!

thanks guys :D Happy to be back! I rescued some Corys from a local guy who's downsizing and I also got from him a HOB mature filter, some woods and rocks and a few plants.. Placed the filter and the corys in the small tank, while the big one finishes cycling :)

    Hello!

New/old aquarist over here :) I kept aquariums from 2003 to 2013, but none since (with the exclusion of a 20cm cube on my office desk briefly before covid stroke) Just build myself a new stand and got a 60 gallons tan to go with it :D
