    Shrimps are SFW why?

by the way, population update to 6 neocaridina (one that I thought died from another tank was found alive and put in the colony) and 4 caridinas (first one that died from this batch, probably stressed from the double tank change of past week, due to the hydra treatment)

    Shrimps are SFW why?

I feed them "Extreme Aquatic Food Shrimpee" 3mm pellets and occasionally I drop in some baby brine shrimps when I have excess from feeding my guppy fry. There is plenty of green diatom algae and biofilm on plants for them to eat too, and there are quite a few snails in their tank, that I...

    Plastic Pollution

All very true but if we all start doing "the right thing" we'd be in a hippie communist commune. Let's instead just tax the producer. Stop this plastic recycling bull****, since all it ends up being is just bury the plastic in landfills in poorer countries, and tax the producer, never the...

    Plastic Pollution

Not only: aluminium is recycled. Mining aluminium is a lot more expensive than recycling it, and it does not degrade. Almost all aluminium in circulation is recycled. So switching from aluminum to plastic is a big mistake, who the hell went for that?

60G breeder journal - the CAVE

I made a topic about it because I want to breed them. But had no success yet. I find keeping them in large number (10, in my case) is better because when one decides to try some new thing the other follows, and in a larger number they are not skittish at all. They still don't touch wafers but...

    Plastic Pollution

The plastic bag for the fish was never involved. I do the same, I use a lot of recycled containers around fish. Also for flowers. My favorite is rice pudding containers to make these cute artemia donuts:

Fun Facts We Didn't Need To Know

Not only: they all cry and look for the attention of their mother with the same sounds and behaviours as newborns. The languages are a learned behavior. They are actually different culture. On the pacific west coast transient orcas (that migrate along the coast in search of feeding ground) and...

    Plastic Pollution

We should advocate to switch the subsidies away from oil companies and redirect the same subsidies to industries that make compostable packaging. The packaging already exists. Several fast food already use them, from cardboard boxes to paper straw and compostable coffee lids. Problem is that...

60G breeder journal - the CAVE

I started dosing Seachem Excel and some Seachem potassium, due to holes in leafs. Long green hair algae problem is gone, but some of the java ferns in particular are still badly pinholed. I went in aggressive and cut all of the leafs off of the java ferns that were in the wrst shape, to see if...

    The 20g Long Progress

I use CO2 with one of those baking soda and citric acid kits, and I have a similar issue with the solenoid: it turns on, but when it does the pressure regulator lets out nothing. Looks like it gets "sticky" if there is equal pression on the 2 sides. If you tap it or change the regulation a bit...

    Shrimps are SFW why?

The look fully grown to me but hard to be sure. There are both male and female. The neos are all a very deep dark red, but I am pretty sure there's both sexes.

    Shrimps are SFW why?

There is a marked lack on NFSW activities in my shrimp tank. Aka no babies There is * 5 neocaridina and *5 caridina, water is RO with * ammonia 0 * Nitrite 0 * nitrate 10 * tds 150ppm reached with shrimp khgh+ Only other inhabitants is a small colony of pond snails. Had the shrimps for a...

60G breeder journal - the CAVE

Update: good plants growth, but also a bunch of green hair algae. I attributed the hair algae to low co2, because I had a solenoid on a timer, and when the solenoid opens (30m after lights on) the pressure regulator oftentimes let's out nothing. Looks like it gets "sticky" when there is...

    Thinking about a 60 gallon

In my 60G I went with a large school of emperor tetras, corydoras, and otocincluses. Real nice natural look to it. I haven't added a "centerpiece fish" yet because I am not sure what I want

Don't you have like... A home depot bucket?

Will my Betta be ok without a water change?

Just try at least to get a larger volume of water. Bigger container, plastic tub, and then yes also add the duckweed

Will my Betta be ok without a water change?

Survive, maybe. Be ok without consequences, most likely not. Just go to walmart and grab one of those 50$ small aquarium kits that are at least 5 gallons. They come with everything and even if the filter is not cycled, simply having a larger volume of water to pollute should help her!

    Problems on Guppy tank

Yesterday I explained to my daughter that the problem could be caused by the males chasing the females and stressing them out, so she looked at it for like an hour (super cute to hear her try to tell the fishes to shoo away) and she deliberated that it has been going on way too much, so the...

    Thinking about a 60 gallon

Rather than a used tank, I would recommend what I got, which is a 60G breeder from aqueon. They are inexpensive, I think I paid the tank 140$ (Canadian). Lights are 3x45$, the heater is 70$, the filter is 125$. So a grand total of 470$ Canadian. For a 60G it's quite cheap (although I thought it...

Where do fish go when they die(Serious question)

No, same. I don't like selective breeding for ornamental features. I like my aquarium to look as natural as possible.

Where do fish go when they die(Serious question)

Also probably how long they were dead for and wether or not they died of swim-bladder related problems. It's common in goldfish, but also in other fish, that a swollen swim bladder makes them unable to swim correctly and float up when they die

Never hardly see my freshwater shrimp. Is this normal?

Oooof. That is.. ehm... nice to look at but very lacking in terms of animal care. There are not enough places for the shrimps to hide in the presence of a predator (the neon tetras), and neons are fast streamlined fish that need to be kept in long tanks where they can swim an horizontal...

    Problems on Guppy tank

I have a 80gph pump in the mail, so far my restriction has been to change some foam pad the was put as protection for the impeller from coarse to fine. It works, sorta. The pump that came with the aquarium does not have a flow dial and it's 150GPH, way too powerful for this 15G tank.

    Problems on Guppy tank

Setup for about 7 weeks, water change ~ 4G every 2 weeks. Tank started with some ceramic media from an established filter, fish added on week 2 and 3. I'll wait a couple hours for detritus to settle so I can remove more of it then make a second change, sounds like a good idea. If I had run the...

    Problems on Guppy tank

One of my gold guppies (F) in my daughter's tank died tonight (or yesterday? I noticed this morning). Body wasn't chewed up so I think it was rather recent. I proceeded to check the water and I got PH 7.8, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 80ppm (ouch), TDS 400ppm. Tank is a 15G fluval flex. A...

recycled / tumbled glass for substrate???

Probably the worse kind of substrate in an aquarium in my opinion... 1) it's not natural, yes you do find it on beaches but that is because there is pollution, we throw stuff in the ocean that should not be there. Plastic is mostly inert, would you have a substrate of broken down bits of...

    Shrimp breeding, take 2.

All shrimps are still alive and well. However, some hydra made it to the shrimp tank from the previous 3 gallons cube, and they grew, a lot. There is a couple dozen hydras that I can see and surely many more hidden. Since I have 2 growing tanks and one is hosting nothing (just plants growing), I...
