The amount of oxygen released by bubbles into the water is still negligible when compared to the gas exchange caused by the surface agitation and convective motion of the total volume of water. In addition, the bubbles are not oxygen, but air.

I was referring to the brown/rust colored algae on the Java fern.

Not good. However, among algae, it is not one of the worse ones. It rubs-off easily between fingers, usually without damage to the blades, and then can be vacuumed off the bottom. A combination of mechanical attack and ascertaining its causes should take care of it completely.

It is possible but I don't believe so. These things are mainly carnivorous, eating tiny ciliates and other small forms. All those cells are of one type/size/color (green ones) and then similar to that the white ones.

I don't believe those are eggs or larvae. Instead, I believe those are algal cells. As corals, these things have a facultative symbiotic association with algae. They can survive without them but will do better with them. But I truth I don't know for sure. I see similar sized white and brown bodies.

However, the quality of the small one (I have one) is very low, and although available and usable, I don't really recommend it.
