Discus are an endless money pit!

I don't have discus anymore. I had quite a few (~20 individuals at one time) between 1995 and 2005, only wilds, both haeckels (S. discus) and S. aequifasciata (greens and browns). Except for one pair shown in the second picture, which were purchased directly from Oliver Lucanus (yes, I travelled...

Plecostomus won't clean 1 side of tank

One thing to ponder upon - Algae on the back wall is a good thing. I never clean the back of my tanks, only the front. The sides are mostly cleaned by the fish/snails, with a bit of help from me if needed (not usually).

    Ich heat-treatment questions

Always hard to say from photos/video. I believe two things are going on: A bacterial/fungal infection (large white fluffy stuff), which may have appeared on top of a pre-existing wound. Then, I do believe I see what can be considered ick. Agree on treating the whole tank. Good luck!

    Where's Byron?

I don't really know you, only from my short time in this forum. However, each time I read one of your posts, my respect for you grows more and more. I have had aquaria and fish for over 6 decades but each and everyone of your posts is not only right on, but most importantly, given with full...

Any temporary solution for getting rid of a really bad odor out of you water at least in time for a couple of water changes can get done?

One additional suggestion - Adding prefilters to filter intakes. Not only prevents fish from being 'swallowed' by filters, but also any large bits will be visible, making you visually aware of needed cleaning. Cleaning should be done regularly regardless of visible crude. All kinds of options...

Corydoras c134 (eyeliner cory) eye rolling

Beautiful fish indeed, and very good video. Eye rolling is not uncommon in corys, but catching it well digitally is elusive.

What type of fish and is she pregnant?

A Xyphophorus sp. (swordtail), of a lyrefin variety. It looks like a male.

Sick Panda Corys!!! Fungus? need help!!!

It is not necessary to use salt marketed as ‘aquarium salt’. Regular table salt, yes with iodine, is the cheapest, always available, and just as good, with no proven risks compared to other ‘aquarium salts’. Of course, some fish have low tolerance to salts (any salt).

Fish (& other animals) know when its time to go

Any fish? Sorry but no. Some, perhaps most often, yes. Some Cory’s (not all as there are so many, and so different) do have decade or more long lives. Three of my silver dollars (Metynnis) are a documented 22 year old age. My flagtail Prochilodus has been with me for 5 years and was probably at...

    Hitchhiker Id?

For clarity, bristle worms are of course polychaetes as well.

    Hitchhiker Id?

Definitely a polychaete worm. I don’t believe it is a brittle worm, as those usually have longer setae (hairs), and arranged in tufts. But the advise of taken it out is good.

    White on my Cory catfish

Although the pictures are of good quality, there is not sufficient detail of the relevant area to really see what it is. Regardless, your Cory is not a Corydoras but a Brochis, a nice one too.

    Floating plants for beginner

Any plant that does well floating (true floaters or not) can be had at the surface, and if desired, it can be contained in floating corrals (as mentioned), so it does not go everywhere and clog filter intakes. Depending on the floating plant you choose and the degree of surface agitation in your...

I cant see any damage on the pics of betta. In fact, the opposite - nice fins, with new growing edges (still clear, not yet colored),

    First tank and got ICH

The main tip is for the future. Never introduce new fish (or plants) directly into your precious aquarium(s). The risks of bringing diseases or other things far outweigh any perceived benefits. It is just not worth it. A quarantine tank is a must. In my experience, Pimafix is not very effective...

Please Help-Fish seem to have weird white bumps on them

That is ick alright. A heavy infestation. Don’t wait any time. I would treat immediately.

Opaline/blue gourami male bring aggressive or is this natural

Normal thing. Male gouramis are always somewhat aggressive of other conspecifics (or closely related fish, such as other gourami species). In my experience, the most aggressive are male opaline and 3 spot (blue) gourami, and the least aggressive are the pearl gourami. But all male are somewhat...

    Cryptocoryne usteriana, discus

I am not sure but would say this - I think it will be difficult to come up with a setup where both the usteriana and the discus will do well. I have what I refer to as Cryptocoryne sp cf usteriana in several tanks. Perhaps you can see if this is the same as your plants. In the first photo, it...

    Lemon tetras and angelfish

Lemon tetras are safe with angels. They don’t fin-nip. Any minor quarreling will be among male lemons and will be mild. Wonderful fish!

    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

I love your planted tanks, and applaud your success with planted tanks containing silver dollars. Not many people accomplish this, and some folks believe it is not possible. I like your group of Metynnis lippincotianus. Have you had other Metynnis species in planted tanks? How did that work for...

How long have you been part the hobby and what is the scale of your involvement in it?

My mother was a freshwater fish afficionada, keeper, breeder, aquariums, cement ponds, aquarium plants. I grew up in it. 60+ yeas later I have always had fish, with some interruptions, the last one ended in 2015.

Life Span Of A Silver Dollar?

This is an old post, but I am a 'silver dollar freak', so for what it is worth... Silver dollars live long lives, several decades. However, I am sure there are important differences among the various general and species. In addition, longevity in captivity (if well kept) is almost certainly...

One of my Silver Dollar PLANTED tanks (Metynnis spp- 3 species)

Absolutely beautiful group! Lucky you. Would you be so kind as to provide for me a closeup of a single male specimen? I can't quite make out a male in the group image, which although very nice, it a bit far away. Many thanks! I want to decide (for myself) what name to use for your fish...
