    PetStock Keperra

PetStock Keppera Summary I have been to this store on a number of occasions and I am very impressed with their quality as a chain store. The fish are incredibly healthy and I feel are at good prices, and the store has at least one staff member who is very knowledgeable and cares more for the...

    Lilly-pads in aquarium?

My current doesn't need to be high on the surface, it needs to be moderately high somewhere for my riffle shrimp but I can manage that. I'll give it a try and I won't be too troubled with trimming it- that wouldn't take much time compared to water changes with buckets ;). I could also try tying...

    Lilly-pads in aquarium?

Has anyone had any experience with lilly pads (not tiger lotus or anything, the proper green lilly pads) in an aquarium? I would think they need high lighting, which I have, but what would stop them? (The tank I'm thinking of putting one in would have no dirt or ferts, but a reasonably high...

    What is wrong (with me)

Maybe it's the way you've scaped, rather than the tank itself? Not me saying it's bad, just that's it's different to the other one and maybe you prefer that one. For example, you may not see your surface dwellers much because of all those leaves (java fern? Crypts) on the right hand side that...

HAPPY NEW YEAR! (for yesterday... or your today, I guess) On a sidenote, is that you in the pic @emeraldking?

    Doubt

You keep jewels? (*more jealousy* :)) Badger- I wouldn't say so... last time I checked duckweed was green ;) I stand by my idea that it's bubbles, either from a fish or air that's coming up from somewhere, maybe from putting the plants in or disturbing the substrate or something. Then...

    Doubt

I can't really see from the pics, but they look like bubbles, similar to a beta's bubble nest. What fish do you have in there? It could also maybe be some kind of eggs, however I think bubbles are more likely. Happy new year and hope this helps! EDIT- I'll pretend not to be jealous that you...

    How to/should I plant

Hi and happy new year everyone! I am undergoing an internal debate at the moment concerning my new 55 gal tank, namely whether it should be blackwater or planted. So far all of my fish would love blackwater (neons, cories, am planning for pearl gourami) and I love the look, however it would...

    Stocking a 252l tank

Hi and welcome to the forum! For your questions: 1. With cories, more is always merrier :) They love being in a big group, so upwards of at least six is recommended 2. I think (I've never had a beta) that one male beta wouldn't do great in a community tank (he might feel crowded and they prefer...

    Fluval 252l Shacker - Cycle

    Test kits (Alternatives to API)

All right, if I'm reading correctly there seem to be three (or four) parties- 1. API Master 2. Select API kits 3. Test strips 4. None of the above Hehehe.... yeah definitely not me. Personally, I can see the sense in all of these arguments. However, I think that the test strips will be best...

    Test kits (Alternatives to API)

Thanks. A few questions though... 1. If you are no longer cycling a tank, why would there be traces of ammonia in the water? (Out of curiosity). 2. Following the previous question, I find it interesting that ammonia would be the one you recommend, as although it is the most toxic it is also...

    Test kits (Alternatives to API)

Hi all, I have been aware since starting fish keeping a year or two ago that I need a test kit, however, with the API kit that has been constantly recommended at around $100 AUS, I was wondering whether anyone had any cheaper alternative that they know works. I don't trust most of the amazon...

    Angel Fish disease

Sorry to hear about it, it's never a great feeling to see something wrong with a fish. If it's still eating, that's a good sign. As to swim bladder, I'm pretty sure if it's damaged the fish can float OR sink, depending on how it was damages. Since it controls how much air is in the fish so it...

    Rams advice and stocking ideas

I've seen khuli's before but hadn't even considered them for this tank, they could be fun! As to rummy noses, they look awesome, but not sure as to the availability in my area. We'll see. Probably not cardinals, as I already have neons, but maybe for another tank. For another option, does...

    Betta Fish Illness?

It's probably not what you wanted to hear, as there's nothing you can really 'fix' to make it better, but as others have said I'm sure it's had a great life. It may recover, or live like that for maybe a year or so, or maybe there's something we all missed like some rare form of something, but I...

    Rams advice and stocking ideas

With the temperature, that seems a bit high for some of the other occupants and I generally keep it (if it can't be perfectly in the middle for all of them) on the lower side to increase lifespan (something like that). I'll upload pics when I can, but I still haven't actually decided if it will...

    Rams advice and stocking ideas

Thanks for the response. With the bonded pair, the employee (and I could kind of see it) said there were two pairs and one lonely one (I had my eye on the lonely one, because he was lonely and because, I'll admit, he was a pretty little guy). He basically said, a pair will be too aggressive and...

    Betta Fish Illness?

Hi and welcome to the forum! Having never kept a beta, I probably can't diagnose much, but is it possible to upload any photos/videos so others can help? Seeming as it's 4 years old, it could be old age mixed with the general problems that have come with the beta industry from trying to breed...

    Rams advice and stocking ideas

Hi TFF, Went to the lfs the other day for some stocking for my new tank (came back with another 10 neon tetras and the 3 pepper corys they had in stock, no issues with them so far) and to get some water tested and came across some exceptionally good-looking german blue rams. One of the staff...

Death of Cory (possibly two) advice

@Fishmanic My water is incredibly soft with almost no (or no) minerals/hardness as it's rainwater we collect in tanks. So if anything, the water could be too soft, especially as it has a small amount of tannins in it (I think that increases softness... I know it decreases pH).

Death of Cory (possibly two) advice

Alright, I'll keep that in mind for the future. I wasn't sure whether I should instruct them to feed or not, as nearly two weeks seemed like a long time and I didn't want them dying of starvation or displaying cannabalistic behavior (I knew they could go a while without food, but wasn't sure how...

Death of Cory (possibly two) advice

Mmm, yes. About that. After much hinting about how much I needed one, I received a test kit for Christmas (I think.. that's what people have been hinting at) but they ordered it late and it hasn't actually arrived yet. I did do a large water change as soon as I got home to make up for the...

    Cichlid got stuck in coral

Hi, Sorry, not answering the question 'has this happened to me' (it hasn't, I've never kept cichlids) but was it ok? I'm assuming you freed it, but I was wondering if it had any injuries. I've had something similar happen with a cory and a very chunky plant, but it was sick anyway and I suspect...

Death of Cory (possibly two) advice

Hi all, Not sure if I should put this in the emergency section since it's already happened but just wondered if anyone could suggest what happened. I came back from holidays recently (the holiday was around 10 days), having left instructions for someone to feed the fish on a certain day from an...

    Opinions on neon tetras

Interesting about yours hanging out in the plants, muddywaters... mine generally enjoyed hanging out in the open (although my planting in the 10gal is very dense, so they usually only go in there if they're sleeping or evading me chasing them with a net ) My water is acidic-neutral...

    Opinions on neon tetras

Hi TFF Just a random question that I've been thinking about for a while, because I believe my experience is different from others, and wanted to see what people thought of neons (sure, cliché, but one of my favorite fish). I have read many reports online about them being inbred (probably true)...

I need help think my fish is sick

Hi and welcome to the forum! I believe the catfish (nice fish by the way, I love raphaels!) has a fungal infection. There are multiple ways to treat it, however the most effective are an antifungal medication or salt. Method of dosing salt is below and safe for all aquarium inhabitants and is...

Discus is dark and has white faeces

Sorry, I wasn't sure (I dare say my first post was pretty unhelpful). Following the guide, it's clearly not a bacterial infection (it's not eating), so I'd say it is an internal protozoan infection as your treating. The white strand coming from it's fin makes me think fungal infection. This is...

    Riffle/bamboo shrimp care (please help)

Just wanted to update... Still working on the infusoria/green water (I haven't got around to it yet :/) but riffle's going well! The other day I saw the tank and thought I saw a very decayed shrimp carcass and panicked but it turned out to be a molt (which I haven't experienced before) and...

    Buying fish online

Hi everyone, Just wanted to clarify some things about buying fish online and maybe some help/suggestion. Australian natives

I think someone I went with has some pics, I'll upload them when I can. The smelt's orange/red colour was amazing though... and they had a black dot right at the tail, making them look like some gigantic rasbora 🤣 EDIT- just looked up what you said your favorite fish were, and it's them...

    Australian natives

Hi TFF, Recently was out at the creek doing ‘recreational‘ fishing (not with a rod and reel, with nets) and saw some unusual fish I hadn’t seen before. The creek had been very dry for a long time and suddenly filled due to a large storm we had recently, so that may explain their presence, but...

Can someone help me out with identifying and possibly evicting this silly white fuzz on my cholla wood?

It’s biofilm, and totally normal/harmless. It‘ll go away in time, or, if you have shrimp/snails/otos, it’ll become a much-appreciated snack. Or just take it out and scrub it with a toothbrush.

    Cycling tank (possibly without tests)

Just read that thread… helpful! So I might try using a chunk of fish (which will be easy, wild-caught fish for eating is plentiful in our house…) or shrimp (you Americans, it’s a PRAWN ;)) instead of the food as recommended in your article, or the recipe for ammonia above… I’ll have a look...

    Cycling tank (possibly without tests)

Hi everyone, (sorry I was away for a few days), First… The substrate and rocks from old tank instantly went in buckets for a few days when the tank recracked to when the new tank arrived. I am not sure if they lost their bb in the time in those buckets (they were relatively wet). The filter...
